It’s exactly what you would expect except it has this end thing on the middle bars that’s an additional lock. It’s awesome, my kids figured out gates like these long ago so this makes it impossible for them to lift the bar to open it. Now that little extra thing is extremely hard to open (I love it!) after about 3 times it got a little bit easier but I still have to basically sit on the ground to open it. It’s up to the person as to if this is a pro or a con (it’s a pro for me). It might work at the bottom of the stairs but it would be extremely dangerous at the top of stairs. Don’t get me wrong it stays between the walls just fine but if my kid really wants to pull it down he can. I love the dark color though.

I just built a new home and wanted something that looked like it belonged with all the new upgraded finishes. Yes, you can get another color gate that is not stained and for slightly cheaper. You could even get one of those other gates and stain it yourself, but really? Are you using Amazon because it saves you time? Most likely, Yes! Then I would suggest buying this gate. I've owned multiple child/dog gates and I wish I would've used these all along. It's solid quality and looks so much better than my old non stained gates. It is a simple slide and lock gate. Super easy to use; doesn't require much muscle or brain power! I've used it for over a month on my stairs to keep my dog on one level. The rubber protectors on the side have not left any marks on my wall. The color is exactly as it appears on the website. Great buy!

I bought this to keep my dogs out of the room where the kitty food is. It works exactly how I intended it to do. It is sturdy and definitely worth the money. It comes fully assembled so no assembly was neeeded.

These gates work perfectly to keep my puppy in the kitchen while I’m away at work. They aren’t very tall, and she will soon outgrow them but they work for now! I’m 5’ 8” and able to step over these gates. I see there is a “tall” option for these same gates. I love the dark colored wood - it blends into my furnishings and are better than the usual garish, brightly colored “baby” items. The wood seems a bit lightweight so don’t try to force it too tightly! I don’t think it would hold up to too much pressure. Does the trick, easy to install (no tools! No drilling holes!), very secure, looks good, inexpensive.

Loving this gate! Perfect for keeping the roommates pups out of my room! It’s tall enough to keep them out, but short enough where it’s not a struggle to get over on a daily basis. I also appreciate that it looks nice which is hard to come by with baby gates. Seems to be of good quality, especially for the price. Overall I have no complaints and am even thinking of purchasing another.

As I was locking it in place the wood started to bend a little bit and I got nervous, but once I got the hang of the locking mechanism it has been a great product! Great price and I love the style! I think this darker style looks more modern and expensive compared to the original light wood!

Not sure there's much to say about a gate but we bought a couple of these and they've worked wonderfully. Conveniently, the color matches our woodwork almost perfectly. They're nice and durable - even with a 55lb dog hopping on them. They are adjustable to fit many door sizes. I'm happy with these.

We have used these types of gates for many years. There's a small difference in the fastener that holds the latch down, but if it doesn't break (it hasn't yet) I'd say it is an improvement. In my opinion, a majority of the negative reviews simply couldn't figure it out. Having used a gate like this before I understand that first-time users are almost always confused (including visitors to our house) but once you understand the simple mechanics, it's a fabulous gate for the price.

After trying literally 9 other "fancy" elaborate gates for the bottom of our stairs we settled on this gate and I couldn't be happier. Keeps my 15 month old safe. Easy to put up and take down. LOVE the look of the dark wood. Does leave marks on the wall but don't mind that because the top of our stairs is destroyed from a permanent baby gate. Wish I bought this first and saved myself the hassle.

I only gave 4 stars because of one defect. The metal bracket where the two pieces of wood slide across each other is exposed. I always get a little nervous when baby stands at the gate right by the metal which is at mouth and nose height. Is she going to fall on it and cut herself, or is she going to bite it and chip a tooth? It's easy enough to cover with tape, but then it's harder to uninstall and install. Ours stay put, so I don't care about reinstalling, but a plastic runner with rounded edges would make me feel better.
