7 Months In, So Far So Good

I've had this printer for 7 months now and am liking it. It prints fast, sharp, and clear, scans well, hasn't jammed or caused any problems, setup was easy, the mobile app is fine, and so after some initial setup that wasn't too painful it just works. I believe the toner cartridge that ships with the unit is an "introductory" size that has smaller volume than a replacement. It trigged a "Low Toner" warning at 290 pages, and the Amazon Dash auto-order replenishment triggered at 300 pages. The desktop footprint is the same as my old inkjet (although this unit is a bit taller than my old printer) that seemed like it needed $50 worth of ink every 100 pages or so (looks like the Brother replacement toner should yield approx 3,000 pages for $75), so I'm very happy to have all of the functionality I need in a small, quick, and efficient printer.

For the price you can't beat it - superb value

I'm impressed with this little fax/copier/scanner/printer. It has the ability to do stand-alone copying and faxing. Scanning is done to a PC with the ability to do full color RGB 24bit 1200x1200 dpi. Laser print is up to 1200x1200 dpi. Installation took me minutes (literally). Remove packing/tape etc, put toner in and plug it in to your network (I used RJ45 ethernet). I went through the setup cheat-sheet and then went into the Ethernet settings. Pretty straight forward. I then went into WLAN and setup the wireless. Again very straight forward. After that I installed the s/w on the DVD/CD rom and it's all up and running. I have quite a bit of experience with printers and copiers (heck I used to design them!!) however this little guy was incredibly easy. I'm replacing a 600dpi color laser that's just broken down and is basically dead and beyond repair and what made me decide on this was the "all-in-one"-ness of it. I realistically can't justify full color these days as most of my work is simply done on the computer. What I need for a small business/home use is quick B&W printing with the ability to do duplexing (double sided) printing. My justification is that if I need color I can go to a copy shop and pay them if needed which I see as extremely rare these days. The printer itself is really well designed and is a small footprint MFP. It takes the room of an older smaller laser but has the duplexer and multi page scan feeder built in as well as FAX should you need it (I don't have a wired phone line anymore). I've already tried all the features and it scans well, prints quickly and quietly and works well with my IPad (AirPrint). So it's a welcome upgrade too. Highly recommended.

Worth the investment

Had minor issues getting it to connect to both my and my husbands desktops without a cable but downloaded the drivers from link provided in paperwork, spoke with my wifi provider and got it up and running quickly. I am running windows 10 on my desktop and he is running windows 7 works well on both systems. Would highly recommend to anyone who is tired of expensive ink cartridges that die with infrequent use. I have had brothers in the past, they are workhorses built for long term use. We have purchased several different brands on the less expensive printers and non have survived past the 1 year mark. I do photography and it is cheaper to have images outsourced for printing, the world has gone digital very few people want paper images anymore. So we invested in a monochrome all in one machine to do what needs to be done in business and personal. Works like a charm and super easy to print with and swap out cartridges as well as holds half a container of paper with each refill.

2 years old and still PERFECT

I am a power user with most electronics, being on them 10 hours a day. For several years i fussed with inkjet printers had hated them for the problems (dried heads, ink problems) and cartridge costs. We bought one of these Lasers for my 10 person office with all of us sharing. It worked so well that I bought one for the house, and 2 years later i have had zero problems. It stays remotely linked to my laptop, never logs off or goes down, requires very minimal maintenance, and always works. I just printed out a 20 page quicken report and 2 other 10 page reports to help me with my taxes, and I'm sitting here glowing over how well it worked...so, I decided to share my opinion with anyone up in the air. If you are using inkjet, what are you waiting for?

Don't try to set up the wifi with the WIFI button. In order to make the wifi work you must visit the website and it will work.

This printer is fantastic, works great, and super easy to setup. Most of the negative reviews here have to do with wifi problems. If you don't do it right the first time you're gonna have a bad time. So LISTEN UP: You can't connect to the printer wirelessly by hitting the wifi button. You must go to the website at support.brother.com and download the software. They're very easy to understand. You must FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS on their website in order to do this correctly. Additionally, this printer doesn't come with a USB cable so if you are wanting to connect via usb you must have an old one lying around the house, or borrow one from a friend, or buy one. They're very cheap and easy to come by these days.

Great printer for the price. Worth the upgrade from older Brother

I am on my third Brother printer for the home office after purchasing this item. My other printer didn't die, it is still going strong by the way, but I wanted to get a printer that had duplex printing (back to back printing), plus had the capability for Apple Airprint and other wireless capabilities. When I checked around, it appeared that Brother had resolved the main complaint I had with the previous model, which was the noise. The older printer would make the lights dim and would make noise I could hear through several rooms (not good when working late at night). I jumped when I saw this printer for a really low price on a random day after looking at this model for a while (the kind of price that will make me skip eating out for a week, but not cause me to lose sleep). I am really happy so far with this printer. 1. What's in the box?: You receive (in an incredibly well-packed box) the printer, plus a CD of drives and some printed information. 2. Aesthetic?: This is similar to other Brother printers. It is fairly compact, and takes up a fair amount of space, but it is not bulky at all. The navy grey color at first seemed strange compared to the usual Brother color. However, it seems ideal now because in my office it is not a large black box soaking up space and it is a bit more neutral. Otherwise, this is a really nice looking item with a minimalist appearance. Gone are the large buttons with a green glow. Like most things these days, the glow when used is blue. 3. Use?: The first big test was the set-up for this item. Literally, I removed it from the box and plugged it in (following the quick-guide) and then placed the printer cartridge in, setting the time date and other vitals. I printed a test page, which demonstrated the duplex ability (awesome) and the rather quite nature of this computer. It is much quieter than my previous printer (going to my office now!). Although there is the CD drivers, I prefer that latest version so I visited the Brother solutions website and downloaded the drivers there. In the process, I received a new version of the scanning software as well. You can use this as a completely wireless stand-alone printer, but I connect it via an ethernet cable to my router for ease of use. However, I have no had any networking issues thusfar and I would imagine if this was used as a stand-alone printer it would be fine. After installing the drivers, my printer was visible on the network and without any effort was visible as a Airprint device for my Apple devices. In other words, after a minimum of effort, I was able to print from the promised sources without any issues. Plus, the family laptops recognized the printer on the networks and had no issues. As to the print, this provides a nice print as I would expect (plus you can play with the settings depending on the need). It is stated that the cartridge provided is good for 700 pages which isn't significant but enough (and ironically though I wanted a better printer, my printing needs seem to be declining!). The duplex is a very nice feature. This prints the page and then pulls the page abck in for the reverse side on the same page. A simple feat relatively, but so handy and missing from my previous printer. Since this is a multifunction, there is printing, copying, faxing and scanning. As to faxing it works fine, and you can insert the multiple pages into the feeder for ease. Scanning works well as expected, even with multiple pages. In fact, it is better at feeding than my previous printer. The software is easy enough to use and is such a valuable thing to have. I hardly ever use my flatbed scanner now except for photo projects because of the scanner's ease of use. The best feature of the printer is that is quiet. From the actual printing jobs, which are of course audible, to the after print fan job, this is MUCH quieter than previous iterations. In fact, there is no post-print 20 minutes of hearing a slight hum of the fan. The printer goes to sleep much quicker and is far better than before. Overall: I can't comment yet on the overall longevity, but so far I am thrilled with this printer. It is amazing how little (relatively) money can purchase something that costs tens of thousands of dollars to duplicate years ago. This is a powerful little device and quite versatile. A very worthwhile purchase.

I bought this unit strictly based on how happy I have been with my other Brother printer. I was using a monochrome brother laser printer strictly for printing text documents, and an HP ink jet all in one for copy, fax, and scan. I finally got sick and tired of getting ripped off for ink jet cartridges; the HP was killing me and the Brother just kept printing and printing without the need to constantly replace the toner. When the toner light on the Brother would finally come on, I would simply reset it and it was set for another few months, I must have done this at least two times before finally replacing the toner; this equated to months of double sided printing. So when the HP ran out of ink again, I decided to buy a single all in one to replace the other two, and there was no question I was getting the Brother. Since this is a new model and there were no reviews, I read the specs on the Brother website and saw that it had everything I was getting from the two separate units--except for color which I hardly used--but in one set up. I can tell you that this printer is very quiet, fast, takes up very little space, and feels solid and well made. I could not be happier with its performance, speed, functions, and options, and the set up could not have been easier. I wanted mine set up wireless, and the Brother software walked me through in just a few minutes; just make sure you follow the step by step instructions. And if you have any concern about the notorious noisy Brother cooling fan, don't worry, Brother must have been listening because this unit is quiet as a mouse.This is an awesome printer and the money I will save on ink will pay for this printer in no time. Goodbye ink jets.

Great printer, value and reliability!

Have had many printers over the years with most breaking down or getting jammed within a year or two. When I got fed up with my HP inkjet due to the cost of the ink and constantly getting jammed when it was hardly used, I remembered that I had a Brother fax machine what still has the original toner and is over a decade old! Granted I don't fax a great deal but the mere fact that it doesn't jam, or complain the toner is expired and is still working like a champ made me realize what I already knew, that Brother is a great brand. I purchased this unit a few months ago to replace my HP inkjet and it works great and more importantly every time I need it. Love that it is ready to connect via hard wire, wireless or via Cloud and Apple printing services. I recommended it to my sister in law who runs her husbands legal practice and she had a Canon she was fed up with for similar reasons. She wrote me the other day to thank me for the recommendation. She love it. Another great plus of this unit is that it uses economical Brother toner cartridges. You can't buy one of the other manufacturers inks for what this toner costs. Incredible. Highly recommended and top notch product!

Nice, crisp

I got the printer today and followed the instructions on the quick guide; take it out of the box, take the tape off, put in the ink cartridge, put in some paper, plug in the ethernet cable, turn it on. Took about 5 minutes. I went to printers on my settings menu on my windows 10 dell and clicked on printers. It asked if I wanted to add a printer. I said yes. It immediately recognized the Brother MFC L2710 DW and did whatever it needed to do to recognize it. I clicked on a word file I had open and selected print. It printed. Nice, crisp, clear, fast, easy. Done. By the way, the printer paper I bought was office depot copy & print, 6.59 for 500 sheets. Works like a dream in the printer. New toner cartridges are 41 dollars vs. 75 or 80 for some of the other ones. So this is a good deal. I am a low volume printer and do less than a hundred pages a month, sometimes a lot less. Anyway, it looks like this is going to be a good purchase. Amazon was competitive on price so I bought from them. Shipped in 2 days. All good.

Great offgrid printer

Super happy with this printer so far. I live off grid with solar panels. The deep sleep feature is awesome, it utilizes a little less then 2 watts while not printing. When printing it can spike to 900 watts but settles between around 500 while printing a page and then goes back to sleep, so the energy usage is fantastic for an off grid application. Connecting the printer to the Wi-Fi was also super easy if you have a newer router, I pressed the button on the router, then pressed the Wi-Fi button on the printer and boom, you have a wireless printer. The printer is ready for cloud printing so I set it up for Google cloud printing and installed Google cloud printing on my phone, galaxy s7 active, and now I can print from my phone while I'm anywhere in the world. Even though the printer and my house and located in the middle of no where. I've used the copy function some, it works good. I've used the scan feature a lot to put receipts for my business into a file that can be stored on the computer. The only function I have not and will not use is the fax portion so I cannot comment on this. When I was purchasing a printer this one with the fax portion was cheaper the one without so I just bought this one and don't use it. Being a laser printer the ink cartridges last a very long time. I'm super pleased. My internet service runs less then 10 watts, my printer less the 2 so for 12 watts of electricity an hour and I have a fantastic connection to the outside world.
