Great detective, point and click adventure game with a Pokemon twist. Reminded me of the Professor Layton or Hotel Dusk games from the original DS. Must own for fans of the genre or Pokemon fans in general!

My daughter loves it
My daughter loves all things Pokémon. So I purchased this for her birthday. Best part about getting this game for her is that it makes her read. She is a little behind with that so anything that can grab her attention and want to read is a good thing.

Bought it for my 7 year old. She loved it, and had no difficulties finishing it on her own. She's pretty good at games, but i was surprised she was able to complete it without any help. I guess that's great for her, maybe too easy for someone older?

Very cute with beautiful art, but geared for kids
So this game is differnet from other Pokemon games as you are not capturing pokemon or "making friends". You are solving detective cases. The first case is finding a little girl's stolen necklace. The graphics are gorgeous and the game itself is cute, however, this game isn't design for adults. Kids playing will need a good vocabulary as there is a lot of dialogue (there are lots of interviews and guidance from pikachu). I got it because it was a new take on Pokemon games, however, this game is very much targeted towards kids. The storyline is somewhat simplistic and there is not pentalty for mistakes. The puzzels are easy and there are a lot of mini cut scenes, which is annoying for an adult playing but perfect for kids. I would have removed a star for all the cut scenes as you talk to pikachu, but the artwork and graphics was just amazing. Pikachu made me laugh because he was so unexpected - instead of being cute and cuddly, he's a gruff middle-age man. Also, he doesn't play "sidekick" like Ash's pikachu, but more of a "mentor/advisor".

A great, well-written, and intelligent take on the Pokemon world that Pokemon fans and Ace Attorney fans can both enjoy.
First of all, I went into this game knowing that it wouldn't be long. After playing through 2/3 of the game, I can confidently say this game is great. The entire premise of this game revolves around Tim Goodman, a recent high school grad, looking for this missing detective father, Harry Goodman. When he first arrives to Ryme City, he runs into a curious Pikachu with whom he can communicate. Together with this Pikachu, Tim goes around Ryme City and its surroundings solving various Pokemon-related incidents, all while trying to determine the cause of his father's disappearance. While this game is obviously geared towards children, the excellent script and voice acting makes it enjoyable for adults such as myself. The best aspect of this game is that it creates a completely believable world in which Pokemon and people coexist. Rather than focusing on the battling side of Pokemon, such as in the mangas or anime, this game relies on the day-to-day interactions between Pokemon and their partners. Yes, the people of this game aren't referred to as trainers, but rather, as partners. This creates a sense that these Pokemon and people exist for more than just battling. Throughout the story, which is roughly 12-15 hours based on my personal gameplay, you run across various Pokemon from several generations. Ryme City is never placed in a particular region, and the balanced spread of Pokemon species from different games makes it difficult to place it on anywhere on the world map. In just the first chapter alone you run across 3-4 bird Pokemon from various generations living in just one place. It's great for longtime fans to see Pokemon from different games living in the same place. And yes, the world is alive. As you play through the game world you will see various Pokemon fluttering or running about in the background. With Detective Pikachu (roll credits) as your partner, you can interact with nearly every Pokemon you see, allowing you a sense of immersion that was never offered before. As Tim, you also interact with the various people along the way, some of whom are interesting characters while other are more deceiving than others. The gameplay itself is a very standard point and click adventure style detective game. If you've ever played Phoenix Wright, you will feel at home. Each chapter begins with a goal in mind, and the detective duo will travel to a unique location to start investigating. Along the way, you interrogate witnesses (both Pokemon and people) and inspect clues. Eventually, Detective Pikachu will prompt you to gather all of the evidence and testimonies to determine just what has occurred and who the culprit is. Each chapter has more than one mystery, and each mystery intelligently leads into the next. While some of the plot points are very obvious, it's great to see how the developers used different Pokemon and their abilities or traits to tie into the plot. I don't want to say too much because of spoilers, but longtime fans of the franchise will definitely enjoy seeing the various unique traits of Pokemon used as plot devices. I have yet to finish the game, but I can already tell this is a great choice for anyone who is a fan of Pokemon or for someone just looking to expand their 3DS library just a little bit more before the device is officially retired by Nintendo. I have played my fair share of spin-off Pokemon games, from the Ranger series to some of the Mystery Dungeons and this is by far the best spin-off I have ever played. Younger players will not find the game difficult, and the story is just so fun and well-written that older fans will enjoy it as well. If I had to choose one negative about this game, it's that Detective Pikachu isn't voiced by Ryan Reynolds nor by anyone who sounds like him. This seems like a strange choice with the movie currently in development, but I'm sure the game voice was sorted out long before any casting for the movie was done.

My boys love it! Happy!!!
My boys love it!!!! It’s a great game, especially if your kids are into Pokémon! It goes awesome with my son’s Pikachu DS as well.

Easy and enjoyable game. A good amount of reading and not for impatient kids.
It's nice to have a different Pokemon game when you are not a Pokemon Trainer but just a normal person who sees Pokemon along people for everyday work. It had a simple and enjoyable story. Would love a sequel but please let Tim have a actual wardrobe :)

Amazing Fun
I haven't finished the game yet, but every time I pick it up, it puts a smile on my face. It's absurd, funny, charming; really just a great side adventure for the pokemon series. Also the voice acting is a nice departure from the norm of 3ds titles.

This is exactly what I was hoping it would be ...
This is exactly what I was hoping it would be. Its entertaining and not too punishing. I already play competitive games, and this is so much more relaxing for those nights when I'm just tired and don't want to compete. Pikachu as a gruff middle-aged man is hilarious; I really didn't see that coming!

A quick game to beat, but well worth the amusement factor.
I just barely got back into gaming after nearly 20 years and a few people told me I had to get a 3ds. I'm usually picky about the games I pick up but have always been a fan of the Pokemon franchise and decided to grab a copy of Detective Pikachu since the movie is due out later this year. What this game is not: This game is not challenging and won't take most people long to beat. I beat it in less than a week of very casual game play. Also, Pikachu is not your garden variety Pikachu, rather he's more of a middle aged sometimes grumpy man. What this game is: I thought the game was very amusing and some of the Pika Prompts were hilarious. If you're really adventurous, pick up the Detective Pikachu Amiibo so you can see all of the Pika Prompts when you complete a chapter. If you're looking for a serious game, this definitely isn't it. But if you're looking for a game with a decent story that you can easily learn and play for a few minutes a day and get a good laugh, then definitely give Detective Pikachu a try.
