I love empanadas and...empanadas criollas (Argentine Recipe) are my favorite! However, I don't particularly like mixing, stretching or cutting my own dough. Too much work and too messy for me! That's where the Goya ojaldra discs come in handy. They are readily available in grocery stores (or here on Amazon) and fit perfectly into the 4.5 inch version of this very useful gadget. Fill the discs with your favorite filling, give the gadget a good squeeze and...voila! You are a genius! Perfect empanadas every time! And, you don't need any sprays or moistening or any other gooey mess. Just squeeze! That's it! A word of caution: The only time you'll run into problems with this gadget is when you overfill the discs. One heaping table spoon of filling is more than enough. If you want more filling...bake a pie!!!

Large 4.5 inch vision works great with Goya brand discos. I had best results when I didn't apply baking spray to the press. Once I got the technique of pressing together hard, using my finger to seal the exposed dough in one direction, then flipping it over and opening to gently extract the empanada I decided I didn't need to try dusting the press with flour. When closed this press has an internal gap 1/4" larger than similar plastic presses allowing for more filling. Filling Goya discos by hand I can typically add 1 and 1/2 tablespoons of filling. With this press I could fill with 2 heaping tablespoons. More is better when it comes to pie filling. :) I've only had it a few weeks but I've used it several times already. Easy to clean by hand, I doubt I'll ever put it in the dishwasher. What remains to be seen is how well it will hold up. If it breaks I would probably buy another.

I decided to purchase this item after watching a chef use a similar item on one of the shopping networks. I specifically wanted the larger model to make empanadas. Tonight was the first opportunity to use the device, along with a recipe for the beef filling and dough from the Food Network. Forming the actual empanadas was super easy once the dough and filling was made. I needed to re-roll each disc slightly before filling since they tended to shrink before placing them on the mold. Instead of deep frying, I used an air fryer (400 degrees for 7 minutes, and turning after 4 minutes). The result, with a little bit of medium salsa for dipping, was excellent. If you choose to make your own dough, roll it to less than 1/4 inch. As an alternative, you can buy the pre-made empanadas shells, normally found in the frozen food section. Just for fun, I tried using a flour taco shell for one of the empanadas. It needed to cook slightly over 3 minutes at 400 degrees. I personally enjoyed it more than the homemade dough, probably because it was thinner. The bottom line is the device worked as advertised. I did not need to spray or flour the maker, as the dough did not stick to the metal.

I used this to make homemade egg rolls!! That’s right. Egg rolls. Instead of trying to create the perfect egg roll and failing time after time I thought I’d try this. It doesn’t matter what it looks like, just how it tastes. WINNER WINNER EGG ROLL DINNER. Also sped the time up by 25 minutes!!

Finally! Something that works! This tool is perfect for pressing empanadas! No more manual labor with the fork. It’s so easy to use, I ordered 2 more! The only con is the handles are a little flimsy.

For years, I have been making Chinese Dumplings by hand and it has always required patience and hard work. Since I am a strict vegetarian, I could no longer go to an Asian buffet to get them like I use to, many years ago. Last year, I googled "dumpling maker" and found many vendors on Amazon selling all kinds of kool dumpling/ravioli makers in a wide range of styles and prices. I settled for BEST UTENSILS vendor. Being a creative person, I was drawn to this beautiful ravioli maker. Knowing a lot about metals, I could see that It looked well made. I ordered 2 different sizes and have had so much fun making my favorite oriental dumplings. It works well with pie dough and pizza dough. I am so happy that I found these wonderful stainless steel tools on Amazon. I honestly can not imagine anyone being unhappy with this simple and well made device.

My wife uses this for making empanadas and a variety of other stuffed pastries. Good quality workmanship; it works well and cleans easily. As the dough shrinks a bit when cut, you may need to roll it out again a bit before filling and pressing so you get a good seal.

It is small than expected since I ordered their largest one unless they shipped me the wrong one. I received the 4.5 .I submitted pictures comparing it the the Goya large empanada discs which run 6 by 6. This is 4 1/2 inches so the difference is pretty big. I am hoping the with the filling it all works out. I am posting this review without actually using it. Once I have actually used it, I will update on the ease of use and how easy to clean but from the looks of it I expected it to be a 5 star. The bottom seems pretty sharp so that’s a plus for cutting any extra from the disc as they will be too big to start with.
