This gives fast accurate readings and does not cost $100 like the thermapen. I have the old and the new model and this one is much easier to read with the bright lcd read out. It is a better grade plastic and the magnets and especially the hold temp function are good improvements. It still shares the issue with the previous model that is is easy to switch from F to C readings by accident but practice helps

The instant read on this thermometer works very well. The needle like point doesn't provide a large enough hole for your steak to lose all of its juices. The instructions are clearly written. I love the ability re-calibrate the thermometer. I cooked two Prime fillets on the grill to a perfect medium rare. Don't forget to remove at approximately 10 degrees below desired temperature as it will rise during sitting time.

Push the button, the probe pops out and the thermometer is ready to get down to business. It's easy to maneuver to read the right places in poultry quickly and is very accurate. I don't need my reading glasses to see the display properly because of the high contrast red, which is a major plus for me. I've had other thermometers by ThermoPro and this one is by far my favorite. The magnets on the back are *just* strong enough to hold this to a range hood / fridge, I actually wish they were a little stronger, but no big deal. Shut off is totally auto (there's no manual way to do it) so it manages its own power completely, which might seem a little wasteful to some since it takes a minute to power down on its own. But, I don't see that impacting battery life much. Cleans *really* easy because it opens completely straight, unlike many others that open at a 45 degree angle. Small enough to carry in a knife roll, but too big to keep on you. Definitely designed for home use, albeit serious home use. Handles drops without damage, cleans up easily. It's a great addition to my kitchen and I don't think I'll be replacing it any time soon.

I've used this thermometer a number of times now and really like it! I have a Green Mountain Grills pellet smoker and use this to double check the built in probe and do spot checks. I actually bought this based on recommendations from a GMG owners group. The temp reading really is instantaneous and I like that it uses regular batteries. Also, I really like the built in magnets on the back as they hold really well to my smoker. All in all, I'd definitely buy again and recommend to anyone who asks. Note: in the pictures, the display doesn't show up properly. Maybe a difference between the refresh rate of the display and my phone's camera 🤷♂️.

I gave a 5 star overall rating as it seems to work as advertised. 5 star for material quality as it seems solid enough to last for a while with the probe hinge seeming to be durable. Battery life and durability rated 3 stars as I haven't had it long enough to make a determination. The probe responds quickly to temperature changes and it appears to be accurate enough for cooking. I'm not sure of its accuracy but when compared to other gauges I have, it is within 1 or 2 degrees......so, accurate enough. It is larger than what I thought it would be, but that's not a problem. So overall, it is a good value in my mind.

Just received this thermometer which I purchased as a gift. I purchased a thermometer from the same manufacturer a couple of years ago that I really like. It provides extremely quick temperatures and is great for the barbequing I do. It costs over $100 and I am completely happy with the cost considering how much it helps with cooking things perfectly. I agree that cooking without a great thermometer is like driving without a speedometer. You know you are moving and have an idea of how fast you are going but you aren't really sure. I was shocked to see that this $20 thermometer is just as good as the $100 thermometer I bought a while ago except the device itself is superior in construction. It has magnets so it holds to metal. It is smaller and feels better in the hand. Even with its small form, it has a large enough display that is readable for me without reading glasses (I'm in my 60's so almost everything needs reading glasses these days). It is built very well and works great. I was quite surprised at the quality given the low cost.

I have not had much success with instant read thermometers. Chicken is always hard for me to judge when done, and I am tired of it being overcooked. I used two other thermometers prior to the ThermoPro, and wasn't happy with either. One thermometer's temperature went up, then down, then back up, even though I held it steady in one position. Admittedly, I did not purchase any over $25, but still, they had good reviews. I was even beginning to seriously consider the quite expensive thermometer that America's Test Kitchen recommends. Then I began to look for "thermocouple" in my search, which is the type ATK liked. Lo and behold, the Thermopro+ TP18 popped up, complete with good reviews and reasonably priced. It is faster than my others, and after doing the ice water test, and checking the room temperature (just a little over 1 degree off on the ice water, and spot on for the room temp), I feel I finally have an instant read thermometer I can trust. I don't really need to touch the power button for it to turn on; it usually comes on when I take it off the refrigerator ( I don't know if other customers have commented on this). I love the convenience of having a magnet on the back. And, btw, the customer service is quite helpful and quick to respond to questions.

Since that other well known manufacturer of these stopped selling on Amazon I found this alternative. It doesn't seem as well made and I can't get it in the color I want but for the price I can buy it five times over for what the other one costs. If you are not familiar with thermistor thermometers and want to know why you should have one the answer is speed. It gives you an accurate +- 1degree reading in about 1 second. That is important when you have removed the grill cover or opened the oven door. It is fast enough to allow multiple readings during you check. Unfortunately this model can't be calibrated so you may have to compensate for it. As with any new equipment check it against known standards. Put it in a glass of ice water and it should read 32 farenheit. In boiling water it should read 212 degrees when immediately removed from heat. It probably won't but you'll know how much to add or subtract to get the correct reading. I just did this and mine read anywhere from 212 to 214 depending on the area sampled. The ice water measured 33 to 34 depending on the sample location. I did not know that it has magnets on the back when I order it and was pleasantly surprised. Mine gets displayed on my refrigerator door. Kinda nice not to have to dig it out of a drawer. The switchblade feature is nice for terrorizing wannabe chefs-in-law that invade your kitchen or patio while you are working. Just kidding. It doesn't open all the way on spring action alone. Fortunately, I have an array of chef's knives. If you think you or someone else might want one, get it you or they won't be disappointed.

I want to use Fahrenheit degrees, but it defaults & auto-resets to C degrees. I struggle to set it to show degrees in Fahrenheit, but I just touch it (pick it up) and it goes back to Celsius; where I have to struggle to get it back to Fahrenheit. If you want to operate in the Celsius scale, then this thermometer is for you, else ... It does seem to find the temp quickly, but I have found that I need to have a cheat-sheet handy to show the target temp in Celsius as well as in Fahrenheit. I don't think I would buy it again.

I just threw three cheap (under $10) thermometer grill forks in the trash. We have not been able to find a thermometer that takes fast, reliable readings in years. This little guy is the real deal! Almost instant readings. Well worth the money.
