Worked out great after a quick replacement from Sabrent
I have revised this review: Sabrent went out of their way to quickly replace the original Hub with a new one. The new one works great and the switches allow me to switch between USB inputs and still use a non powered hub. The USB 3.0 speed is fantastic. I have to commend Sabrent for their outstanding customer service in this matter. I also find this product to be of great quality. There will always be some duds in a product run but its how they are resolved for the customer. Thank you Sabrent. My old review is below......... ************************************************************************* Causes a conflict in Windows, blue screen, for some reason. I hooked it up with a USB 3.0 extension cable as the cable on this hub is way to short. Now for the issue. The computer was fine before this hub was hooked up. Once hooked up late in the day it produced 2 blue screens, that is a critical Windows error message requiring a reboot. The next day it did the same thing early on. I disconnected the hub and its been fine now 3 days later. Obviously something in the hub is causing an issue with the system and the blue screen. Now this is with nothing connected to it. On the positive side it did allow for very fast speeds in backing up 8 gigs of files to my external hard drive with its own PS. So it does work and the switches would have been nice in that I could have left that drive hooked up and just switched off till needed. The only thing I can figure is that something in the hub was defective and causing a sporadic short forcing the blue screen. Now with that said I will just relegate this hub to the computer parts storage box as I do not want to risk damaging my computer. I'll experiment with it when I get time. Also I do use USB 2.0 hubs on both of my computers with no issues. Its just very strange. For me it just did not work out.

Really Excellent Product!
Unlike USB 3.0 hubs I've tried in the past, this one works very well. I bought 2 of these hubs, and I've got one plugged into the other, effectively giving me an additional 7 free USB 3.0 ports. To my surprise, it appears that the data transfer rate is not impacted by this configuration. Transfers are fast and reliable. I've copied several terabytes from one external drive to another, both of which were connected via the Sabrent USB hubs, without a single hiccup. I also tried a test case wherein I had 3 separate large file copies in progress, at the same time, between 3 different external drives, and everything worked! Of course, the transfer rate for each individual copy was slower, but, in the aggregate, the USB 3.0 data rate was maintained. I really, really like the individual buttons for each USB input port which allow me to selectively enable/disable inputs - the buttons were a key reason I went with this Sabrent model. So, for example, I have 4 external drives hooked up to one Sabrent hub, but I only want to "bring online" the particular drive(s) which I need at the moment. I'm using WD 8TB MyBook external drives which automatically power down when they detect no connection on the USB 3.0 port, so I save power (and wear and tear) on the drives I'm not actively using, and I avoid the clutter and confusion of mounting unneeded drives. One final note on my configuration: As I mentioned, I have one of these hubs (call it the "slave hub") plugged into a second hub (call it the "master hub"). Plugged into the slave hub, I have 4 self-powered WD 8TB MyBook external drives which I selectively enable/disable according to my needs at the moment. (BTW, works fine if I enable all 4 at the same time!) In the master hub, this leaves me 3 free USB 3.0 ports (recall that the slave hub uses up the 4th port). Anyhow, for good measure, I'm using a Sabrent 2.5A power supply to provide power to the master hub, just in case I want to plug in devices which are not self-powered. I should hasten to add that, even without power supplied to the master hub, testing shows that I can successfully plug in at least one WD portable (non-self-powered) 4TB drive. However, I decided to go with a powered hub in case I ever want to plug in multiple non-self-powered USB devices. Note that you can order the Sabrent 4-port USB 3.0 hub with and without the little power supply. Overall, I'm exceedingly pleased with this product. Nicely made, very attractive and low-profile, and, best of all, it works really well. I will be purchasing an additional one of these for my other laptop.

I just bought a second unit March 2019, I have had the first one since 2016
This review is of a hub I have had since 2016, I don't have the recently ordered one yet. I got this specifically to use for push button charging. It is great for that. I have devices that the batteries have died just because they went flat. It's expensive to replace devices and/or batteries. With this I keep em plugged in and somehow DO remember to charge them before they die. That alone was worth the price. I also use it to have 2 SDR plugged in and switch on the one I want to use. One SDR can use up any single USB 3.0 ports bandwidth so I typically just use one device at a time. I occasionally run more than one at a time when slower sampling rate is used, no issues. I also use it for massive data xfers(2T-4T at a time) connecting external 2.5" hard disk. Most USB 3.0 hard disk can use a whole single port so I don't expect to use other ports at a time when a single device passes tons of data. I often keep a disk plugged in but not powered. Sometimes I use it for 2 WiFi dongles at the same time. No issues with disconnects but I can burden the USB 3.0 bandwidth. It's the same with any hub and high bandwidth devices. (one as sniffer one as normal WiFi) I have many always on 5-9 port USB 3.0 hubs(Anker, Dlink, Netgear, etc.) and they all perform similarly. More ports does not equal more bandwidth. If you plug a 2.0 device in everyone goes down to 2.0 speeds. Some reviewers whinge about the switches and fat fingers, 99.99% of USB 3.0 hubs have no switches, why did they choose this one? I never had an issue with accidental switching and I don't treat the thing gently. It is small and light for portability, with very stiff cables that might cause issues, It's not this devices fault. Now I want one just for charging again because I keep using it for other things because it has switches, so it's on the way. I shoulda got 2 because I easily have >8 devices that need regular battery top up. I keep the devices put away with wires attached and just push the button. I also got color coded cables so I can easily determine what button goes to what device. LOL, I almost forgot to add "It works with Linux" :) My current opinion is, I like it and just ordered another. If they are different now I'll come back here and edit.

Consumer mistake in picking the right device and the Company reps helped me out with above average customer service!
My initial rating was 1 star - why? because I plugged my Ipad in and my iphone to charge. I was excited. 24 hours later, the hub died.Howver, that was MY FAULT. I did not realize that this was a hub and not a charger. I contacted Derek at Sabrent who apologized (even though it was not his fault, i am the silly ignorant consumer) and educated me about the different options for charging. He told me about the Sabrent Multiport charger and was able to offer that to me at a discounted rate. I sent the original hub back to amazon, but I was thoroughly impressed by Sabrent's Consumer relations and their diligence in helping an non-techy consumer. I will choose Sabrent products in the future because of their customer service. If you are looking for a hub - get the 4 port hub if you are looking to charge multiple devices - get the sabrent device below. Will a USB 3 port or cable work in series with a USB 2 cable?
Hi, Amazon limits the length of questions in the questions section to very short, so I am elaborating on it here to see if anyone knows this and/or has any suggestions. || I purchased this hub with switches, along with an Amazon Basics USB 3.0 extension cable. I received them yesterday and both are very nice, and I am sure they work fine. But they did not work for my intended purpose. || I have a digidesign MBox2 and Pro Tools LE 8 setup on a Windows 7 32-bit PC. Pro Tools will only run if you have the MBox2 device connected via the USB cable to a USB port on the computer. The MBox2 is old, so I assume it is USB 2. But I don't want to have the MBox2 always powered on when I am using the computer for other things, which is most of the time. So I am always having to plug it in and unplug it on the back of the computer. So I was looking for a USB switch so I could leave it plugged in and just turn it on and off, and found this. GREAT! And it has a very short cord, so I bought the 3-ft extension to use with it. || But I was so disappointed when I hooked it all up and tried it and it would not work for me. || 1. With only the new switch plugged in to the computer and the USB 2 cord from the MBox2 plugged in to the switch, with it turned on, Pro Tools will start up and load my project. But when I click the "Play" button, instead of playing the tracks it gives the message: "Your audio clock frequency is different from your bit rate . . . " or something like that, so it is not usable. || 2. With only the AmazonBasics USB 3.0 3-ft extension cable connected from the computer to the USB 2 cord from the MBox2, Pro Tools will not complete starting up, giving the message that my MBox2 is already in use by another program, so please quit that program and try again. || HELP!! It seemed like such a great idea to put this nice-looking, quality switch in between the MBox2 and the computer. || Is my problem based on the USB 3.0 - 2.0 connection I am trying to make? Is there such a thing as a 3.0 cable with a "Type B" style connector that would plug into the MBox2? Or does the 3.0 standard just mess with the "audio clock rate" that I just can't work around? Can I find a similar switch that is USB 2.0? I only need 1 channel, not 4. Thanks. I will be highly impressed if anyone can solve this. UPDATE: I bought the USB 2.0 4-port hub and an Amazon Basics USB 2.0 extension cable. The 2.0 hub/switch gives the same error, so a switch is just not compatible with the MBox and Pro Tools. However, the USB 2.0 extension cable works to plug in the main USB cable, so that is my solution to reduce wear and tear on the USB sockets.

Very nice hub, LED lifespan not so nice
I needed a good quality USB hub to create a "break out box" for my laptop. A small clear plastic snap box to keep the cords of several peripherals organized and neat, as well as a couple of the peripherals themselves. I have both an external keyboard and mouse as well as a USB sound card, XBox One wireless adapter, extension cord to an SDR tuner, and a couple of other things plugged in. This required two of these hubs daisy-chained together. I used the optional AC adapter (available in a separate bundle with this hub) to make sure all of the peripherals had enough power. I used double-sided mounting tape to place the hubs in the box, then neatly wrapped the individual cables. Then I used a short USB extension to connect the first hub to my laptop. This way there's a single USB cable to my laptop, and the cables to the individual peripherals exit the box as needed, leaving the rest of the cable and some of the peripherals themselves inside, neatly organized and dust-free. I chose this hub because I liked the idea of each port having an on/off switch. I also liked the power lights. The hub itself feels high-quality, and comes very nicely packaged. I have not had any problems with either of the hubs. They connected fine, and none of the devices plugged into them have had errors. Transmission speed is fast (remember to use USB 3 cables, or you won't get USB 3 speeds!) and I have no real complaints except one. Given that I leave the hubs plugged in and turned on almost all of the time, I've noticed that the LEDs have dimmed over several months. It's still very clear that the port is on, but so far I've noticed the LEDs have diminished in brightness by around half. I know this is a fact because I had one unused port left over, which has only been on a few times. When I plugged something into it and turned it on recently, the LED was at its full brightness. When I received the hub all of the LEDs were at equal brightness, thus the rest have dimmed over time. Something to keep in mind if you intend on leaving the ports on all the time like I do. As some of the other reviews have noted, the light does favor one side and is not uniform like the images in the listing imply. The LEDs are located towards the "back" side of the hub, on the opposite side from the ports, so that side is brighter. And there is some light-spillage to the other buttons, but not enough to make it confusing telling which ones are on or off. You can clearly tell which ones are on or off. Other than replacing the dimming LEDs, the only other thing I'd like to see to improve this product would be a detachable USB cable. Having the hub itself as a single piece with a USB 3 cable port in place of the permanently affixed cable. This way you could change lengths at will, or replace cables that may be damaged.

Great USB expansion for better productivity.
Originally brought 2 of these 6 months ago for me and my wife's laptops to expand the existing USB ports from 3 to 7 (A HP Pavilion DVT8-1200 and a Dell XPS Studio 1747) for wifi dongles, mouse, keyboard and normal flash drives (The ports on the Laptops are USB 2.0). Being happy with the results of the original 2 we ended up buying 4 more for 3 of our Laptops (2 of them being new) and 1 desktop (also new). The new Laptops with only having 2 USB Ports if you are lucky really helps gets the productivity out of our Laptops. PROS: - 4 USB ports - Each individual port can be turn on or off - USB 2.0 and 1.1 backward compatible (The lowest I have is USB 2.0) - Blue light to indicate if the USB port is on or off. - Plug and play, No drivers need to be pre-installed CONS: By design none but just a heads up for higher powered devices like an USB external drive due to the power requirements may still need to be plugged into the PC/Laptop directly. Overall: Could not be happier, Would recommend for your PC and Laptops that only give between 2 to 4 ports.

Ultimate USB Hub for Professional Audio Equipment and Production
Incredible life-saver in my studio for modern audio equipment. I have a combination of USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 gear all plugged in including multiple high-speed professional grade audio interfaces and USB-MIDI controllers. All show up just fine and can be "unplugged" by flicking a switch on the side. The cable it comes with is quite short but by buying a 15-foot USB 3.0 Superspeed A to B ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00C7S0BES ) you can extend the range on this thing so now all my desktop synths/etc. can just be wired to this. If you have several pieces of modern Roland hardware (Boutique/AIRA..) and/or all other music-related USB gear, storage devices, etc. this is the hub you need. Takes up a single port on my laptop and desktop, gives me 15 extra feet of range and allows me to use much cheaper, short cables for each individual piece of gear, and I can quickly move all my gear from one computer to another. I can only assume the reason everything works properly is that this hub supports Multiple Transaction Translation (Multi-TT) which is often cried about on audio forums. This fulfills the promises of hubs that are much more expensive and aimed at "audio production" (i.e. overhub, and even more ridiculous offenders - on one forum that will go unnamed, people are suggesting $400 rackmount hubs for this purpose - save yourself the nonsense and buy this hub). If you produce music and you have bought any hardware younger than ten years old, you basically need this.

Works amazingly on PS4
Such an amazing device. I bought this mainly for my ps4 because I have too many USB connections I need and the lack of the PS4's with only two usb ports just wasn't doing it anymore. I have the Sony Gold headphones I need to plug in, a laptop fan cooler, GH's usb stick, a USB drive with audio and back up and the micro usb for the headset (to change the customization in the Headset App). This allows me to keep everything plugged in, and with a simple press of a button on top turn off the ones I'm currently not using such as the GH flash if I'm playing another game. It's fast, nice looking and works flawlessly with everything I have plugged in. I can not recommend this product enough, HIGHLY recommended!

Why all the complaints?
I read all the reviews on this and it seemed like everyone was shooting it down for some reason. either they could get all the devices plugged in or the male end wouldn't fit right, or my personal favorite the buttons wouldn't light up. I've had this device plugged in for about a week the first thing I did with it was plug in a card reader for my camera sim cards a brand new external Sea gate hard drive as well as my old Toshiba hard drive. than checked my file manager and found everything as it should have been. Than began to transfer all the files on the Toshiba to the sea gate with no problem. while that was taking place I used the card reader to check out my 64 gig sim cards and decided which photos were keepers and which were trash. Everything worked perfectly. The only con I can find is that maybe a peace of Velcro could be included in the future to help hold this product in place better. To all the complainers I'd like to suggest to you that maybe you peel the half inch of tape off your thumb drives and card readers. and to those of you that are using extensions cables next time you build or buy an extension cables buy the slim plugs that are more up to date. and check the USB connector on your device it may be the problem not this product.
