Looks great, easy to assemble!

I needed a more "adult" bookcase for my studio apartment. This is perfect. The wood is thick and sturdy. The unit isn't very heavy when empty. Great shelf depth! It took me 30 min to assemble, but I'm pretty handy (not a professional though). I purchased black (pic attached).

Nice, get real.

The bookcase looks good, and does what it is suppose to do. It was very well packaged, so no damage. The instructions were clear, and I had no trouble putting it together. Some complain about it not being a solid wood bookcase, but get real. Who wants to spend $400 to $800 and more on such a silly thing. If I want fine art I'll go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC and look at the bookcase Louis the X!V used. No one is going to saw my bookcase in half and say, "Ah ha!, your bookcase is not solid wood, but veneer over press-wood," or whatever it is called, and I would have to hang my head in shame. Hey, it is a good deal. It is well built, and looks nice, who cares.

EXCELLLENT! Look no further!

Great little bookcase! Easy assembly with only a screwdriver (phillips) and hammer required. The bookcase was packed extremely well - heavy cardboard "bumpers" around all edges of the box, then shrink wrapped. Absolutely PERFECT way to ship such a heavy item! Assembly took a mere 1/2 hour, all by myself. No damage to the bookcase anywhere. My only wishes are: MORE nails to hold the back piece on, and separate the pieces into smaller bags by part. It's easy for them to get lost (or stolen by a cat) when you have to dump all the different hardware out at the same time! Would highly recommend...and would definitely buy again.

I ordered these in combo with another sauder heritage shelves. The are great and pretty dark wood was close enough match to other that difference is not noticeable

Great Bookcase for the Price

This bookcase is a great value for the price. It's made of laminated particleboard with a cardboard back, as you would expect at this price point. However, the quality seems high. (I did find one minor nick on the back edge of one side panel, but I easily masked it with a Sharpie marker.) Assembly instructions were very good with both words and annotated pictures. There was even a little humor ("Pro Tip: Lift with your legs. And, you know, your arms.") You can also access a 12-minute instructional video, although I didn't need it. A couple of notes: It's important to read the instructions for each step thoroughly as you go along, including any notes printed in boxes. Also, be sure not to over-tighten the screws and hidden cams.

We bought this bookcase to hold the tons of books we have for our toddler. Our house was built in the 1920's and has really nice woodwork and built-in cabinets in our living room so we were a little worried about if this would stand out from the rest of the room. I am happy to report that it fits right in and matches our wood perfectly! Overall it seems very sturdy, the only slight complaint I have is that the back board (cardboard) was slightly larger than the back of the unit so one corner is sticking about a half mm above the top left corner of the bookcase. No one other than me would probably notice that though.

exactly as expected

I bought two of these to flank a Sauder entertainment center, and they live up to the very high expectations I always have for Sauder furniture. The material is high-density particle board with laminate covering, but don't let that fool you. This looks and feels like solid wood without the risk of wood's warping and splitting. Assembled it feels extremely sturdy and looks great. Assembly was a breeze, as I am thoroughly checked out in the use of Sauder's ingenious hidden fasteners. But these can be tricky for a first-timer, so be sure to read and follow the well-written directions. (I made a real dog's dinner of the first Sauder piece I tried to assemble years ago, but once I took it back apart and read the directions before reassembly, it went together slick and easily.) The caution with the bookcase says to limit the load to 50 pounds on the bottom shelf, 35 on the middle shelf, and 25 on top, but in practice this is quite conservative. I have around 100 LP records on the bottom shelf of each (yes, I still listen to them occasionally), and hard-bound books on the middle shelf, with a stereo speaker on each to the left and right of the center entertainment center, with no fear that I am overloading the units. At about $69 each, these are a best-buy, IMHO.

Best Shelves on the Market

If you have to buy particle board shelving, this is the only brand to consider. If you treat them well they will last years. I have a set of 4 tall shelving units that are 15 years old and have been moved 500 miles...twice! Realize they are not wood and are fragile by nature. But once you get them set and loaded they are the best. My old units are loaded with heavy records and books and have not sagged at all. (I put the records on the bottom shelves.) Now I have bought more shorter units for books. I fully expect them to last just as long. The finish is excellent and look a lot better than $60. On another reviewer's note about too long screws. You had to have put them together with a drill or are King Kong. There is at least a half inch "play" in there. Follow the instructions. It's not that hard. I would love all wood shelves. But when you own 45 boxes of books it's just not feasable. This is a very attractive affordable alternative.

NO damaged or missing pieces! Beautiful, very well-made.

I just received the item today and have just now had the time to start assembly. I've gotten as far as taking the pieces out of the box and just had to start my review. This is the first and only time I have received an online furniture order in which all the necessary parts were present, intact, and undamaged. The wooden pieces feel solid and strong. There are NO SCRATCHES, CHIPS, OR CRACKS IN THE WOOD! The cams and dowels are not flimsy crap pieces I've seen with internationally shipped items. I will update my review as I continue assembly and adjust the star rating if necessary. I am thrilled with this piece. Five stars will remain. I have never seen such a bookshelf "kit" that is so easy to put together, yielding such a beautiful, solid product. Many other furniture pieces I've assembled (from amazon, walmart, and wayfair) have had hard-to-understand or inconsistent directions with bad English; damaged or missing, cheaply made parts; and flimsy, ineffective, easily breakable hardware pieces. The instructions on this item were concise, well-written, and easy to understand. (A fluent English-speaker surely wrote the English section...thank you!). There was even humor incorporated into the instructions, giving the package personality, and me a sense of personal connection with and confidence in the company. The hardware connected the pieces together precisely and solidly. Not one cam cracked! And the screws and metal (not wood) cam dowels were of adequate length to hold together what they were supposed to (yes I've had some kits with screws so short they wouldn't even touch the destination holes, and at least 2 or 3 of the flimsy cams would be cracked and unusable). Until this, I have not put together a piece that I haven't had to make multiple trips to Lowe's to complete the assembly. This assembly was a pleasant experience without the almost constant frustration attached to some others. The wood is beautiful and NOT cheap, creating a very well-made, sturdy piece of furniture. I was originally going to place it in a bedroom, but it is so beautiful, I have put it in my main living room so more people can see it! I will definitely recommend this unit to others, and I plan to check out other items from this company. Oh yes, the price is also awesome, and I am going to buy at least 2 more of these units with the first payday after Christmas!

I LOVE IT!!

Omg! This is such a nice sturdy piece of furniture. It came with reinforcements on the outside of the delivery box! So everything inside would be protected in the delivery process. And it was! Everything inside was perfect. It was very simple to assemble. My husband came home from work while I was putting it together, and asked me why I didn’t wait for him to do it. It literally took me 30 min to put together. It would have been less time had I not had to stop to find my hammer. All you’re going to need is a hammer and a philips head screwdriver. I read through reviews before I purchased it, and I’m very happy that I chose this one. I will by from this company in the future.
