New expansive white quartz countertop. I do a lot of food prep and I wanted a large cutting board next to the induction stove. Veggies can be sliced, diced and into the pot on the stove. Just as described, this baby is big and came untreated. I got out the coconut oil and started to work it into the wood. The raw wood look immediately turned int a handsome brown matching my new cabinets. The sellers said the board was sort of rough finished and it is. You could sand it down but I like it sort of rough. It took a lot of coconut oil and resting on its edge over night to bring out it's natural beauty. For me its perfect next to the stove so I can rest a hot pot on it if necessary. If you have a lot of counter space and do a lot of slicing and dicing, this is a great board. I matched this with a big Acacia cutting board three feet away and when people enter the kitchen they see the boards on white quartz and go "wow"

My extra large cutting board arrived today, and I'm very pleased with it. It seems well made, and once I applied the coconut oil following the directions, the beauty of the wood is stunning! I'm going to love having such a huge work surface. It is 18 x 24 inches. I placed a chef's knife and some veggies on it in the first pic to try to show the scale of the work surface, but it still looks smaller from the picture angle than it actually is. I'm looking forward to having a nice, heavy wooden surface for my bread making, too. Truly beautiful!

** EDITED AND REVISED ** I originally gave the product a 1-Star negative review (see unedited text below), and was utterly stunned to receive a hand-written (!) note from one of the company founders who had read about my experience and wanted to rectify it. He explained that there was an unforeseen tendency for boards, produced around that time, to warp due to improper storage. He assured me that the issue had been resolved and offered to send me a brand-new board. I am thrilled to report that I have been using the board for longer than I was able to use my original board, and it is in PERFECT condition. It is an exceptionally nice product, and I'm really thrilled by the PERSONALIZED, truly authentic customer care I received. (Even though I had written the nasty review below!) Bravo to Virginia Boys Kitchens. I am officially a lifetime customer. Original 1-Star Review: Seasoned this board as directed. Have even used John Boos Butcher Block Board Cream. Washed by hand, carefully, per directions. After less than a month — as was the case with some other reviewers, I now notice — this cutting board WARPED and is suddenly unusable on our slippery marble counter. I tried numerous methods to retrain the board and, while all worked at first, the board goes back to its warped state within 24 hours. VERY disappointing, and surprised by all the positive reviews, which encouraged me to buy in the first place. I wish I had read some of the negative reviews. Caveat emptor, I suppose.

The board is absolutely beautiful and it is the perfect size. After measuring out how big the extra large board would have been, I'm very glad I got this one. Because of how it is designed, you can cut one one(or both sides), but it makes more sense to cut on the side with the drip trench and use the opposite side for serving if you're feeding a crowd. I was a little worried about having to season/oil the board myself, but it was SO easy to do, and the deep chocolate color that resulted was perfect - AND even as an amateur, the shade was consistent all over. I recommend using 4 coats on each side to ensure a rich color and a well protected surface.

Awesome cutting board! Be careful if you order the extra large as it is huge! Beautiful piece of wood once it is treated. I received it in two days as promised just in time to treat it and use it to display and serve an antipasto platter for a New Year's Eve dinner party. It made a beautiful presentation!

A very nice quality board. I read the reviews and followed the sellers instructions by getting some coconut oil. As soon as I put the oil on, the color came out in this board. To be honest, my wife loves this so much she's not letting me cut anything on it.

So far I am thrilled with this cutting board, but will update this post should if anything change. Before ordering I had a question about the construction, was it one piece of solid wood or several pieces put together. I received a mixed bag of answers, but much to my surprise, I received a reply from the manufacturer, who had been monitoring the responses and saw that I might be confused by the mix of answers I was getting. In answer to the construction of the board, it is several pieces of wood glued together. I was told they cut the board after they've glued three pieces of walnut together. They are REALLY particular in the wood glue we use - opting only for the strongest and most food-safe wood glue available - because otherwise you get the seam separation. With a satisfactory answer and feeling confident that the manufacture would stand behind their product, I placed my order. As other reviewers mentioned the board is ash grey when you receive it; however it comes with instructions on how to season it. As soon as the coconut oil, I used to season, touched the board, it became the beautiful walnut color pictured and has not changed back. I am still seasoning, but will be using the board soon. As far as the warping so complained of. My board is not warped. It is wood, so if submerged in water for a long period of time, it may warp. I only intend to wipe it down with soapy water. So, between that and the seasoning, it should not warp. I was looking for a quality board that would not come apart at the seams and drip. Yes, it's a little pricey, but if it performs as expected, I feel it is worth it. Only time will tell, but as of now I am very pleased with my purchase and am considering ordering the larger version as well.

Love this board. After sealing it with a high quality butcher block conditioner, the deep color and grain is beautiful. I bought it to put my crock pot on to keep the the heat off my new quartz countertop as recommended. I'm not big on using wood cuttingboards, but in a pinch I used this as a pizza cutting board and it was perfect and cleaned up easier than I thought. The hard wood barely showed cuts and the groove catches crumbs. I was converted. I now use this all the time and it always sits on my counter where it looks beautiful and high-end.

Nice board. I hear hard wood is safer than plastic so I've ditched the plastic. Now we cut up raw meat on this and wash right away. Veggies are cut up on this same board. I really like the dark color. It did look like it was't sanded completely smooth but I think it's the walnut wood. Once oiled and used a few times it just simply doesn't matter and can't even tell it's there. Went over and over as to what size to get and glad I got this 17 x 11. Needed to put it in the cabinet when not using so didn't want heavy one. This is perfect size.

****IMPORTANT NOTE**** I've read a lot of questions/reviews complaining about the dull and untreated appearance of the board upon receiving it. THE VENDOR SAYS THE BOARD IS DELIVERED UNSEASONED! You need to season this board yourself. I personally use John Boos oil and cream (last I checked, Amazon shows these products as "Frequently purchased with - go figure"), and the difference is noticed instantly upon applying these products onto the board. If you're spending this much on a wooden cutting board - you should be taking every extra effort to care for it... and this means seasoning it. Monthly. Yes, monthly.
