Get some friends
I hated this game until i realized that i should probably play party games with more than just myself if i want to have a good time.

game is amazing! can ruin friendships
This game is everything I expected it to be just like the older mario party games. Was super excited when this finally came out for the switch. You can only use joycons for this game so make sure you have two sets of joycons to play with 4 friends. There are so many different modes to play as well. The team mario party mode is my favorite. I highly recommend this game to old fans of the series. However this game is a lot less forgiving than the older games. You can no longer lose all your coins or all your starts in one swoop. But you can still steal things to ruin your friendships!

finally a great game!
this has gone back to when it really made the series a great fun game. while i understand how some may not like that you can't play this game via the pro controller or in handheld mode, this game deserves five stars. the game is meant to be played with the joycons only. for the type of feedback they give the player. so holding it in handheld mode isn't an option either. you have to play it docked with the joycons, one per person, or tabletop mode but once again one joy con per person. i personally dont see this as an issue since i wouldn't play this game alone for me to play it in handheld mode and i wouldn't need to use the pro controller at all since the joycons feel good for me to use in hand. so while others may give this game a 4 star, i still give it a 5 star. totally worth a pick up though if you love the series.

Hard yes. Get this game.
My fiance and I have loved the Mario Party games for a while. This keeps up an excellent track record. Unlike most new iterations, this one has a huge amount more to do than its predecessor. The pool of mini games is seemingly endless. We've played through two full parties and haven't played the same mini game twice. The minis are all fun and well balanced. Some are definitely harder than others, but none of them has seemed unfair or cheap at all. I expect we will spend a lot of hours with this game.t It might drive you a little insane if you're winning when the NPC's suddenly get three stars on the last one turn and take the game. This and Mario Kart seem to have a strong probability bias favoring the people who are behind to keep the game competitive. It works in your favor if you're having a hard time, too. Highly recommended

For any Mario fan
PROS: IT IS MARIO PARTY! Many new challenging mini-games. They requires some skill due to the motion controls now not as many easy wins. This could obviously change over time but with practice but for once everyone who didn't grow up planing Nintendo games has an equal playing field. On the surface it seems just like every other Mario Party- with less board options. However if you explore there are any hidden gems. I really enjoy the partner party and the versatility. I appreciate that Nintendo gave me a logical reason for owning 2 switches with mini-games, not in the party, that require two switches. (Pictured) I love the special dice for each player and buddy team ups. CONS: It is long. I thought no way can 10 turns take up the estimated hour. It does. 10 turns isn't long enough to have a game you are satisfied with. Just when things are getting good, you finally are close to a star or you are given several items. The game is over. The longer board times are ridiculous and realistic. 20 turns for 2 hours? There are 5 party boards, and only 3 unlocked to begin with and they are tiny boards. Megafruit Paradise has roughly 50 spaces at most. Whomp's Domino Ruins has about 54. I don't have the official records on me. I however do not believe that many of the Mario Parties were this short. No way was Boo's Haunted House 50 spaces and if it was I never looked at it and said wow this is pointless. Maybe they need better pictures if games are always 50~ spaces. you look at board selection and are underwhelmed. 4 players even with 2 systems. I understand why but no pro controller. Just the itty bitty controller and no other options. If you are out and about you can't really play. They should consolidate a section of free play mini-games into controller selection. Many could be played with a pro controller or as a handheld because they use only buttons. I love it, my kids love it. I missed Mario Party and was tired of N64 and Wii/U games its been decades, I love the variety now. I hadn't broken out my switch since beating BOTW DLC in both modes. So it's nice to have a game to play with the family and its never the same. There are a lot of mini-games I have played 3 parties and 1 partner party and have yet to play the same mini-game twice.

Finally - Mario Party returns to its roots!
I bought the latest iteration of Mario Party as I was getting together with a couple of long-time friends who spent a humiliating number of hours playing Mario Party in our younger years. It's been quite a while (i.e., the Gamecube era) since I've played a Mario Party game, but around that time the franchise started to take a bizarre turn. The usual formulation of "move around the board, win mini games, and buy stars" gradually seemed to fade away to away to less fun, more bizarre formats. I read no reviews about this version before buying it, and I was worried that this version would be no different. Alas... that's not the case! This seems like the first game of the franchise that keeps the original - and successful - formula of Mario Party while adding some fun features. The core gameplay itself is true to the core, but with some added features that actually make the game more interesting (e.g., the ability choose between different dice and recruit allies to use their dice). The mini games are as fun as always, though I will say the games generally seem to be fairly simplistic compared to games that I remember in the past. The mini game mode is fun and offers plenty of options if you enjoy that aspect of the game more than the typical board game format. I haven't played the online version so can't review that. Overall, if you're looking to get back to the original form of Mario Party greatness, this update will satisfy that itch. This is a classic game that is a true improvement on the franchise and returns to the best parts of Mario Party. If you're familiar with the franchise, you won't be disappointed with this version. If you've never played Mario Party, buy it, get some friends together, and have an outstanding time.

So much fun
I pre-ordered this game, and it arrived pretty early in the day. The game itself is a lot of fun, it's great for groups, and it does have a lot of online functionality. The tutorials were a little frustrating, for an experienced Mario Party player, but for new arrivals to the franchise, it is just what you need to get into this great series of games. I haven't been able to play for long, but it's definitely a game I would recommend for the switch

Amazing Game!
This is quite possibly one of the best Mario Party games I have played in a very long time. I was admittedly hesitant to purchase it after having tried Mario Party 10, but I am now glad that I made my purchase. The game features 6-sided dice (as opposed to the usual random-number generating dice that can roll up to a 10) and I completely accept this as it feels more like I'm actually playing a board game. The mini-games are a lot of fun and the motion controls are done in a way that feels perfect for when they are necessary (Such as rowing a boat or motioning for a high five). None of the motion controls feel annoying at all and they are not required for every mini-game either.

Back to the roots!
As an old school Mario Party player, this game was so freaking fun to play with my brother! The minigames were great, competitive, and there are so many ways for catch up and screwing over of your friends and family! It's always great to laugh at them as Lakatu steals a star from your rival. While I agree somethings are a 'little too easy', the level call back to the old school mario with the boards and minigames are great. Not to mention, the new additions of the ally system and what not is fun. I was angry that there weren't any 'duel' minigames and that all of those were simply... well, they were rumble minigames? Which kinda' suck. We were hoping to have some crazy intense 4 play or 1 on 1 minigames for duels that are 'all or nothing' and by chance or skill. Highly recommend this game, however, to anyone who misses the old school.

Can I get a high five!!! Really enjoying this version of the Mario Party series.
After several plays, the wife and I are really enjoying the game. I decided to update my rating to five stars My first experience with the Mario Party series was #8 on the original Wii. The wife and I loved that version and it is still our go to one for a great Mario Party experience. We did not like how the players moved as a group in #9 and #10 so we rarely play those anymore. We also did not like that when you came to the end of the board, the game was over. We liked being able to play a number of turns and going around the board a number of times in #8. This Switch version has gone back to the independent movement of each character so that was a huge plus for us. Kudos for going back to that format. They also removed and end space to each board so you can go around as many times you like depending on the number of turns you play. Number of turns is either 10, 15 or 20 turns... at least on the one board I played (Whomp board). The Whomp board that I played was pretty small compared to what I have been used to in the previous versions. I hope the others are not like that. If they are... a bit of a bummer but we are okay with it. The graphics and colors look beautiful to us. Really rich and vivid. We like the high five feature... even with the rival characters like Wario, Waluigi, Bowser, etc. The mini games are a blast to play too. I could never stand the ones that were based solely on luck. I liked the ones that required skill, quickness and timing, etc. and so far all of the mini games are not based solely on luck... at least the ones we have played. The Sound Stage feature of the game is fun to play as well. It is a timing thing done to music. You have to do various motions with the joy con controller to the beat of the music. In terms of being able to use only the joy con controllers, I have no problem with that and am used to using the small controllers with most the games that I have. Should the option be available to use alternate controllers? It would be nice. Does not affect my enjoyment (so far) of the game. In the meantime... have a great time with this new version. The wife and I will!!! Now go out and party!
