Great DAC that doesn't require TV to be set to PCM audio
I've tried two or three other similar units but every one of them forced me to set my TV to PCM to be able to use headphones, then set it back to Dolby to get full quality sound from my Yamaha YAS-207 sound bar. This unit lets people listen to good sound from the sound bar while someone else listens to headphones. Connecting my Sennheiser RS180 wireless transmitter to the DAC's headphone jack (which has a built-in volume control) allows me to listen to my headphones without depriving other people in the room of excellent speaker sound. One small drawback is the very bright red power LED. Totally unnecessary. I punched a tiny hole in a piece of black electrical tape, covered the light and now have just a tiny pinprick of red light to indicate that power is on. A great unit. Especially considering its low price.

Worth the extra cost for AC3 5.1
Works well with Dolby 5.1 (AC3). Output levels on the mini stereo jack is just OK. At full volume, my Sennheiser wireless RS 160 headphones are loud enough but not quite as much as when its plugged into the receiver. Overall very happy with this setup though. Originally I bought a different product that only supported PCM but that would have forced me to use PCM everywhere and lose surround.

Works as advertised, decodes 5.1 audio into stereo.
My issue is that the TV puts out 5.1 audio when Amazon Prime is playing. Netflix lets me change the audio to stereo. The only output is an optical cable. Then, my receiver can take optical in -- sort of. The main receiver is no problem. I have a dual setup with two separate inputs into two different rooms with the one receiver. The main room is a theater, so 5.1 is fine. The second room drives speakers and headphones. The room 2 only takes analog in ... and can't be digital. Most of these do a great job converting the optical digital to analog audio, but they don't decode the 5.1 -- it comes through the RCA L/R connections. This one does both. The volume control is a nice extra. Bigger is the separate 3.1mm headphone output in addition to the RCA L/R. So, I really like this one.

Works very well.... except......audio out put is too low.
This DAC really works well......except! I have an old Bose Lifestyle 12 System. With the DAC volume control turned all the way up, there is still not enough audio output. I have to turn up the Bose system audio to get to a comfortable listening level. The problem is....if I switch to the Bose receivers FM radio, I get blasted out with speakers blaring way too loud! If only the DAC output was a bit higher this would not happen. Hello Neoteck, is there a way to increase the audio output from the DAC? Not a deal breaker, but I agree with the other person who said the red LED light on the DAC is way to bright.

The product solves a nasty HDMI A/V distribution issue
I had tried a similar product and it crackled and failed to decode a number of streams. This product works for all the advertised stream types and I like the fact that there is a volume control that also adjusts the line level outputs so I can tune the levels before they go into my amp. I am using several of these to decode the output of my HDMI matrix switch. The matrix can only decode extracted stereo PCM and won't do HDMI ARC. These allow me to send the full audio stream to the rooms that have Dolby/Whatever in the room but still be able to get stereo audio to my amp where I don't have surround sound systems. This is roughly the same as the much more expensive RTI ADA-1 or similar with more features. Be aware that you need a USB power supply to use this - it does not come with one but does come with the USB power cable. I ended up getting a multi-port USB charger to support the multiple units I purchased.

Works
Works as described with no problem. For me, connects optical output of HD TV to my analog stereo system and speakers. Had similar setup with slightly older Samsung HD TV but it had analog output that could go right into AUX input of the Stereo amp. This unit seems to have reduce volume when compared to TV output of speakers, even adjusting Stereo volume to compensate. Must be loss factor somewhere.

Works better than a digital connection between my TiVo and receiver
When I connected my TiVo directly to my receiver using a fiber optic cable, recorded shows and some apps worked fine, and the sound was awesome. But other apps would only generate a blast of loud static. So I bought this, hoping it would solve the problem, and indeed it did -- all of the apps that just generated static generate perfect sound from this. Then a week or two after I bought it, one channel dropped out. I contacted the seller, and they offered to replace the unit. Before I could send them my address, I thought to wiggle the cable at the receiver end, and that cured the problem. So it was the fault of my old cable, not this DAC. Kudos to the seller for excellent customer service, and I'm glad I didn't need to use it!

just works
i use this for a new flat screen tv with no analog audio out. I have an old budget audiophile reciever and speakers so this was a perfect bridge so I can listen to digital encoded sound on an analog amplifier. DTS Dolby all work fine, knocked down to 2 channel. ATMOS sounds stupid and only tom cruise and billy crystal listen to that decoding standard

It is the one that actually works!
OK this is the one that actually works! I've tried several from various sources with no success. Most just make buzzing humming sound. For get all the cheep ones under $20.00 they just do not work. This is super for older audio systems, head phones Audio is very good. It just works as stated, no BS.

Great product - Great price
This converter did exactly what it said it would - which is exactly what I needed. I connected the optical output on a 65" TV to a Bose speaker using this product, and it worked without a hitch. The sound is good - for being an analog signal. Other reviewers have mentioned the bright red light on the front of this. WOW - That is a bright light. I wonder if Neoteck bought some surplus tower lights from AT&T because that is about how bright it is. I was able to move the converter to a spot behind my entertainment center and - problem solved.
