I use it with Snow & Ice Melt, rock salt. I use the medium/large setting for the Snow & Ice Melt and it works great. Very well made and it is a little larger than it looks, makes for less refills. Thanks for taking the time to read my review and be safe. Campjeep

In a nutshell it is like holding a pitcher that you would pour glasses of water from. The manufacturer has placed a grid on the top of the container which allows you to custom turn to desired opening that allows you to shake the salt out of slowly or rapid fire depending on your need and the size of the salt. I used to run around our company parking lot with 2 small cups. This probably holds 10 -12 of the cups with one easy to control durable container. Really like it.

I loved this hand spreader - more than what I expected! Buy it as you'll find it being your go to item!! I love the fact that it has multiple opening sizes and is not flimsy - very sturdy! Love it!!

Other ice melt/salt spreaders always get clogged and seem to be made more for grass seed and fertilizers. The multiple openings are great! I have zero complaints. These will get a lot of use here in Minnesota, and I'll be interested to see how they hold up. If you're looking for an ice melt spreader that doesn't get clogged, stop looking and just buy this one!

We use this for fire ant granules for mound treatment. Works great, easy to hold and is a sturdy well made container.

So I was looking for a spreader for some seed and insecticide I bought and I really didn't know which one to pick and seeing the simplicity of this spreader I decided to go for this one. This product is so simple and useful its crazy. Scoop in and spread. That's really it, it's just that simple. Not only that but the customer service is so amazing, they will respond almost instantly and resolve any questions you may have. If youre looking for something simple that will work and do what it needs to do without fail go for the Spot Spreader.

Almost perfect. It is the best I have found for hand spreading almost anything. My first spreader was difficult to open and my most recent one is easy. This spreader can be difficult to open and close depending on the size and strength of your hand. This spreader is larger than most and is more durable than all others I have seen. It won't open or break if you drop it. It can be heavy if you fill it completely, but it also holds a lot more than others. It is also the best for using ice melt on stairs. I like the spreader and while recovering from hand surgery I experimented with various ways to open and close it even with a tight lid. What I found to help with limited strength on a tight lid is place the spreader on a flat surface and grip it near the bottom. Instead of using the handle to open the top, I gripped the scoop end. I gripped the bottom with my left hand to open and right hand to close, this allows you to use your thumb strength on the flat side of the base. If you make a "C" with your hand it almost matches the shape of the base and allows the most hand contact.

I have a small flower bed and wanted to spread pre emergent weed killer to the bed. It was very helpful to have the ridge on the top of this device to spread the weed killer accurately so as to not hit my flowers with the weed killer. It was also easy to fill. Before taking excess weed killer out of the spreader, tap the spreader on the ground and get all of the chemical to the bottom of the spreader so when you open the lid, the chemical will not spill, and maybe do all of this over your flower bed rather than over your garage floor.

I bought this spreader to spread things like feather meal and worm castings on my deep mulch veggie garden (See: Ruth Stout, etc), and so far it has been very handy for that. I have nothing but good things to say about the product, and I even received a "Thank You" card from the family-owned business in the mail thanking me as a customer. It cost a few extra bucks more than simpler versions but the variable size options for the shaker head ended up being well worth the small added cost, as my fertilizer likely wouldn't have shaken through those other brands' spreaders' small holes. I also like that I have the option to close it, meaning I can keep excess fertilizer in the spreader without worrying about bugs or (fingers crossed) moisture spoiling it.

For years I've been using a progression of takeout containers or yogurt cups to spread salt / sand, and I am really glad to actually have a purpose built, study salt / sand spreader now! I actually loaded this thing up with really cheap / natural kitty litter to use as a sand substitute on sheer ice, and it's been working really well. It gives you fairly fine control over how much and where material is released. Very happy with this purchase! Thanks :)
