I needed (well, wanted) surround sound in our family room, but the physical setup would not allow for a true rig with receiver, individually wired center & L/R speakers, etc. My tv is on the Mantel Mount (another product I highly recommend), which extends down to eye level from above the (unused) fireplace. I previously had Vizio's 38" 3.1 soundbar attached, but immediately wanted to upgrade to the Atmos bar once I heard about it over a year ago; I can't do a proper wired center channel and front speakers with such a configuration, so having the soundbar coupled with rear speakers wired into the wireless subwoofer was the ideal solution for me (I did have to buy the soundbar extenders for the mount, as it is so much wider than the bar before). Even though I knew I wanted the 5.1.4, I waited and read the few reviews that were out there, which solidified my decision; I waited for Cyber Monday (missing the Black Friday price) and pulled the trigger. It has been one of the best "big" purchases I've made in electronics. Most people do not have surround sound in their homes, so don't know what they're missing; or, if they do, may not have things connected properly, hence aren't getting the most out of their system. For someone looking for a solid and impressive system, without breaking the bank or going full "home theater" this is an excellent option. Obviously the selling point is the fact that this supports Atmos, so you'll need to know how to actually achieve that, because too many people assume they will get the full effect via ARC (they won't). The biggest complaint I've seen about the bar is there's only 1 HDMI input, which is a fair point, but there are workarounds. My setup is a little complicated, but I like having the option of not having to use the system, so split my signals. I have cable going straight into the TV and use the ARC connection for surround (cable doesn't support any high-end audio, so I don't need anything beyond ARC support there). I also have a Roku Ultra and Panasonic 4k Blu Ray player, which I obviously want to get the best audio from. The Panasonic player comes with a separate "audio out", which helped tremendously; Roku made things a bit more complicated. After searching and searching and searching, I finally arrived at the HDFury AVR Key 18Gbps | HDMI Audio Extractor | 4K HDR Splitter; it splits the audio and video signal from my Roku the way the Panasonic does and has been a life safer. Next, the audio signal from the Panasonic and Roku go to an HDMI selector, which runs to the soundbar, and their video signals go to a separate selector that runs to the TV--a bit robust, I know, but it works and has not given me any headaches (both selectors are from ROOFull, which looks like many other brands, but has been the most solid in terms of performance for me and fully supports 4k and Atmos). The only problem is my wife has no clue how to select anything (but I see that as a "plus"!). Once you make sure audio is set to "auto" on any player/streaming device, you're good to go--watching the little light go green for "Atmos" or red for "DTS" is awesome...and boy, do you truly hear it all around you. Even basic 5.1 Dolby surround from the cable box sounds more encompassing when the EQ is set to "movie". The bar being 46" really does help with L, center, R channel separation--the "movement" across channels becomes more apparent. In terms of Atmos, when it's kicked in, it shines. Fair warning, even though some movies have Atmos tracks, it does not always mean you're going to be looking up, thinking something is above you; it's not ALWAYS an "up and down" movement, but most definitely creates a "fuller" soundscape that is tough to beat. Additionally, the subwoofer has really solid bass that keeps everything tight. Pros: -Awesome sound quality (regardless of price) -Straight forward use (after going through remote once) -Simplifies a surround setup for the average family room -Solid construction Cons: -Bluetooth connection can be spotty (not a huge deal--not really why I have the system) -Sometimes you need to cycle through the inputs for the signal to kick in -Only 1 HDMI input (issue if you have more than one high-end audio source that ARC won't support, but can be dealt with as mentioned above) -Won't work with vaulted ceilings (this is true of any up-firing speakers, and is not exclusive to this system) I would highly recommend this system to anyone--you won't be disappointed.

I had the last iteration of the sound bar. I have a simple, powerful setup at home and I was waiting for a Dolby Atmos soundbar. I use a Chromecast Ultra on the ARC port. Can now power up the Soundbar and TV using voice commands. The 5.1.4 is amazing, you can clearly hear each channel and the subwoofer almost got me kicked out of my apartment.... This thing is big, heavy and powerful. I have a lot of 4K UHD HDR 7.1 Atmos BD films, and they all come through clearer, louder and more defined on this bar than the last. Plus, in the app, whatever audio source is going through is labeled, so if you're playing Atmos content, it'll show. Full 4K + HDR passthrough, all tested. Love this bar because of it's simplicity, integration into smart homes and insane audio power and quality. The box it was shipped in was bashed and crapped to hell, but the thing was packed nicely and no damage was detected.

This product is AMAZING!!! I bought it when it went on sale for $700 on Black Friday and BOY was it the best decision I ever made. Not only does this system easily compete with the more expensive brands, but it's also incredibly affordable! I can barely go past volume 20 without my entire house shaking. It looks GREAT with my new Vizio P65-F1. It was super easy to install - everything just automatically connected with the TV. The package was HUGE and everything was conveniently organized and labeled. I recommend this product to anyone looking for a higher end surround sound system!!

I bought this new Vizio Atmos soundbar system as a replacement for Samsung's $1700 Atmos system that didn't even work out of the box (it refused to passthru any video.) This Vizio system is hooked up to a 2018 Vizio P55-E1 panel and worked instantly out of the box with zero extra configuration required. ARC, CEC, 4K UHD & HDR passthru, and Atmos sound from my Xbox One X all worked instantly with zero hassle. The audio is crisp, clear, and can get quite loud. I had to turn the subwoofer level down to almost the minimum to not overpower my apartment and likely get myself evicted. The wireless sub/rears have worked perfectly without any of the pairing issues others have described elsewhere. The one con, if I had to come up with one, is the LEDs used for status. I actually prefer Samsung's approach (a small LED text screen) instead of this array of lights that require the manual to translate. The remote's display also doesn't always line up with how the soundbar is actually configured. This isn't a 2-way remote so the display is really just to identify what mode/level you're currently configuring. Rely on the mobile app instead -- once you jump through the initial hoops to set that up, it works perfectly every time and you'll no longer need a separate remote. My vote: Don't hesitate if you're thinking about a purchase. This is a SOLID sound system that is a beauty to experience and will certainly fill even a sizeable room with clear, crisp, loud sound. UPDATE 6/7/2019: I've had many, many problems with this powering itself off randomly practically every day now. The latest FW was supposed to address this; it does not. Disabling CEC (except for ARC, I really need that) doesn't help, nor does disabling EcoMode, Vizio Remote, or any other even marginally related setting. I'm trying to open a self-service support ticket online right now and the form is just hanging in multiple browsers. I'm starting to lose a bit of faith with Vizio here ...

When it comes to home audio, I've always been more traditional (ie, tuner, amp, speakers). Last year I picked up the little brother to this, the one that does 5.1 for our bedroom and was surprised by the sound quality and power the little package provided. When I saw that they were release this Atmos enabled one I knew I had to try it. Especially when I had looked at how much it was going to cost to upgrade my tuner and get the extra speakers to do the same 5.1.4 Atmos setup. Then for black friday the knocked $300 off the price, so I had to jump on it. I am glad I did. It took longer to take down my "traditional" setup than it did to set this up. It probably took longer to unbox it than it did to set it up. I immediately started up one of my Atmos enabled 4k videos and noticed it immediately. The sound is clear, the voices are present, and the power... I was almost literally blown away. The only thing that might be a mild turn off to some people, is the size of the sub. It is HUGE. Am I glad I got it for $700, yes. Would I pay the $1000 knowing what I do now? YES! Hey, if you can get it cheaper, then by all means, but if you want Atmos at a reasonable price, this is hard to beat, even at full price.

I just received this Vizio Soundbar and so far so good. I downloaded the Vizio SmartCast app and checked for firmware updates using the SmartCast app. It updated the soundbar firmware from V1.2.0.1 to V1.2.7.1. Before giving up on this soundbar, update the firmware and see if it improves your experience. Update from VIZIO We have begun releasing firmware 1.2.7.1 for the VIZIO Atmos sound bars. This firmware includes the following improvements below. Updates: 1. Color banding occurring when being pass thru the sound bar. 2. Apple TV 4K audio not switching to Dolby 5.1. 3. Factory reset not fully resetting network settings. 4. Sound bar stopped responding to CEC commands after system idled for 5 mins. 5. Resolved a Surround balance issue where surround balance was only increasing channel gain, and did not reduce the gain. 6. Other CEC compatibility issues. This update will be rolling out slowly over the next couple of weeks

Good sound for the price Hook it up properly and no issues Do not be a dummy and try to compare this with something you could build in a fancy store for $$$$$$$$ obviously it won’t sound as good but if you have that kind of time and money your an idiot if your looking at vizio For the rest of us it’s a quality product

I installed the 3.1.2 sound bar in our outside patio area (under cover with 8' ceiling) to a Samsung QLED TV and it sounds great! Now I can enjoy Dolby Atmos media through Netflix, Amazon Prime and others. To maximize Dolby Atmos available media, I connected it up to the Apple TV 4K. Best thing I could have done. Netflix, Prime, VUDU, etc., have quirky requirements where Dolby Atmos is only supported through certain hardware, i.e., type of TV you have, etc. Apple TV 4K is the only device that currently supports all major streaming services with Dolby Atmos content therefore the positive plug for Apple TV in my review. Other streaming devices like Amazon Fire Stick, Roku, Chromocast, etc., do not pass through the Dolby Atmos from all the streaming services that the Apple TV 4K does. What good is a Dolby Atmos sound bar if the availability is so extremely limited by hardware/software requirements right? Netflix probably has the most Dolby Atmos content out there right now and it only works through LG OLED TVs (2017 or higher), XBOX One, Apple TV 4K and Windows 10 desktops. Who knows how long it'll be before Netflix starts supporting older equipment, if at all. Setup was pretty straightforward with the Vizio 3.1.2 soundbar. I connected it to the HDMI-ARC OUT from the soundbar to the ARC IN on my TV . My Apple TV 4K is connected to the one HDMI IN input on the Vizio. The remote control is fairly easy to use and will run your TV commands if you choose to use that exclusively. However, since the sound bar is connected through ARC and I have Anynet+ enabled on my Samsung, I was using the Samsung remote before getting the Apple TV device. Now I'm using the Apple remote exclusively and it works great. Regarding the audio, this soundbar is pretty impressive even without playing Dolby Atmos content. The "virtual height" mode option didn't really impress me much, it can actually make it difficult to understand voices through regular stereo content coming from your cable or other provider. Kind of depends what you're watching, e.g., movie, sports, news, etc. However, you can switch the height mode from On, Off or Virtual depending on your room configuration. The other neat remote control feature is if you don't know what type of audio format is currently coming through your sound system, you can press the "info" command on the remote and it speaks what format is coming through. In other words, a voice will come over the sound system and state: "HDMI-ARC (tells which connection you're using), DOLBY ATMOS/DOLBY MAT." Or "HDMI-ARC, DOLBY DIGITAL/DOLBY DIGITAL+," etc. Good for troubleshooting if you believe you're supposed to be getting a certain format over your system from your streaming source. The subwoofer really puts out some great thumping lows and it should given how big this thing is. You can crank this soundbar up too and it'll more than fill the room with sound to the point you can't tolerate it. That's good in my book, some sound systems don't have the output and can be disappointing. Never had any issues with the subwoofer connecting through the wifi. If you're looking for a moderately priced Dolby Atmos sound system without rear speakers, this is for you. Glad I bought this when Vizio drop the price $100 just recently, appears it's back up to $799 again.

I just opened and installed this system about 2 hours ago. First impression: WOAH. That’s exactly what I wanted when spending this much money on a sound system! The design is very sleek and modern. The satellites have some decent weight to them and look good. The subwoofer is the biggest and heaviest that I have ever seen with a sound bar. The sub looks like it would fit in well with any hardwired true 5.1 or 5.2 system. Set up was easy as expected. Overall sound quality was very impressive from the start. The audio was well balanced with lows mids and highs. The sub was very strong but controllable with the smart cast app/remote. Seriously this system was impressive at first play. Much more impressive than the NAKAMICHI 7.2 DTS-X system. The nakamichi lacked a lot in the mid range and the subs were buzzy with certain content. This is not the case with the vizio so far. The Dolby ATMOS works with my Xbox one without any issues so far. It’s hard to describe atmos with words so I’d suggest doing your own research on that. The height speakers in this system are VERY noticeable and ad a very cool touch. I love them. The cons: This system isn’t very user friendly. The remote is kind of hard to navigate. The app makes it easier but the only display that the sound bar has is a series of LED dots that are hard to interpret without the user guide. There isn’t a solid way to see what format you are currently in ie: atmos dts, or DD. Those features aren’t a deal breaker in my opinion. Maybe it can be updated to give an on screen menu with vizio TVs later on. DTS-X: this isn’t supported by this sound bar. Support isn’t noted anywhere in the user guide, box, or website. However, on Facebook, the vizio account responded to a comment on one of the pictures of this system and said that the sound bar DOES support DTSX, idk who to believe. Surly DTSX support can be added via firmware update later on, fingers crossed. I will update this review as I go along. So far it’s a 5 star!! Edit: 12/2/2018, I have looked back and reviewed my correspondance with the vizio people on facebook They actually didn't confirm the use of actual DTS-X. They said real DTS and DTS virtual X. I have also confirmed that on the system, it would not play in DTS X. Otherwise, The system has continued to impress in terms of sound quality. I have had a few instances where the system would shut off unexpectedly. This would require me to turn it back on manually. Once the system is on again all of the previous settings are restored and things are back to normal. I have not contacted vizio support yet, I am waiting for either a firmware update or the system to become more frequent with its power downs, whichever comes first. 1/10/19 UPDATE: The system continues to play very well with my xbox one as my audio source. The previously mentioned technical issues have continued to happen to me. They have not become more or less frequent. I would guess 1 out of every 15-20 times the system is powered on through the TVs CEC control, I will experience the issue. The screen may go black, the sound will cut, then the picture will suddenly re appear and the sound will be back to where it was. I think about 2 times i have lost CEC connectivity between the tv and the system and ive had to un plug the bar and re plug it back in for it to re connect. These issues are too infrequent for me to stop enjoying the system. The sound continues to satisfy me with all types of content. Overall, with a couple of hiccups, the system continues to play clear and strong. It is the most convenient, affordable and impressive surround soundbar that I have yet come across.

Brilliant budget sound system. May not be a legit sound system with the individual speakers, heights, & receiver, BUT it's great I was testing with Matrix Revolutions; I didnt hear anything being disappointed I remember there was a setting in the 4k bluray audio & I set it from 5.1 to Atmos & BOOM big difference its jaw dropping. Happy with my purchase, although the price is the major downfall for a excellent sound quality. Also the subwoofer..... just wow big & small BOOMing sfx it's great.
