Innovative solution to First World Problem
I’d been on the fence for a number of years for adding a Universal Remote. I wasn’t too fond of the “major” player in this space. There were features and functions I didn’t find useful. Upon reading about the Caavo solution, I took a chance being an early adopter. I’m very happy I stumbled upon this. The setup was simple and intuitive. After no more than 30 minutes, I was up and running. I did have a small technical issue and reached out to support. They were quick to respond and offered multiple suggestions and solutions to my issue. Needless to say, my issue was unrelated to the Caavo. (The primary speaker channel shorted. It was old). I love telling Alexa to turn on the Caavo. I think the “less is more” approach to the remote is the way to go (ala Apple TV remotes). Yes, it does take some getting used to, but the learning curve is short. The family also has adopted the Caavo. Happy with my purchase and recommend it to anyone needing to consolidate.

Easy to set up and use.
I had become frustrated with my Logitech Harmony Ultimate set up to unify all my remotes. I read about Caavo, back when the original premium unit was $400, and was very happy to see the new unit at a much more affordable price - AND with 4K/HDR compatibility built-in. It's been less than 24 hours, but I'm very happy so far. Setup was easy. All the stuff that I had plugged directly into my TV got plugged into the Caavo unit. I have a Sony 4K/HDR TV, DishTV Hopper, Sony 4K UHD Blu-ray player, Xbox One, Amazon Fire TV, and a Sonos PlayBase. I plugged the included IR blaster in as well, since it appears the Xbox One and Sony BD player receive commands only via IR, and not via the HDMI cable (I'm not sure this is really the case w/ the BD player, and may re-do the setup on that). Caavo walked me through everything step-by-step, including learning the IR remote commands for my Sony BD player (again, I may have goofed something during the install on this device, so learning the IR remote commands may not actually be necessary). It also checked to be sure I could control the volume on my Sonos PlayBase. It then walked me through signing into several apps (Amazon Prime, Hulu, Netflix, etc.), which included going to my PC to enter codes to link accounts. The Caavo remote is fairly minimalist - for instance, it does not have a numeric keypad. It has instead a button to bring up an on-screen numeric keypad for changing TV channels. It also has some buttons with symbols that do not necessarily make it readily apparent what they do for each device Caavo is controlling. One super-cool feature of the Caavo remote is that a light touch on any button on the remote (don't press, just touch) brings up a small on-screen pop-up that tells you what the button does. Some buttons do double-duty. For instance, a short press on REW or FF will, of course, initiate rewind or fast-forward functions. Long presses, though, will initiate forward or backward skip (on my DishTV Hopper, the remote can skip you backwards 10 seconds at a time, or forward 30 seconds at a time - great for skipping commercials when watching DVR'ed content). Caavo also works with Alexa and Google Home voice assistants. I have Alexa, and am getting along pretty well with verbal commands to turn the TV on, switch inputs, tune to particular channels, etc. I actually tend to not really use voice commands very often, but it's fun to play with, and will be a fun party trick to show off when friends come over. Caavo automatically recognized every device I plugged in. I didn't have to go through multiple menus to tell it what I had. It did take several minutes to download updates and so forth when I first turned it on. Response always seems nice and quick, unlike my Logitech Harmony Ultimate, which often seemed to have to churn a bit before finishing out a set of commands. If you've got several devices, this is great for unifying them - use one remote and one on-screen interface to switch between hardware devices and software apps easily. If you've already tried some form of unifying technology, and have been disappointed with it, Caavo is really worth your time. And the current price seems to me to be really reasonable for how well it works.

Great addition to your living room!
So far, I'm really enjoying my Caavo. I didn't think much of it when I first heard about it because I don't really have a lot of streaming devices, but now that I've tried it I'm glad I bought it. I didn't think I'd ever really need a universal remote with my setup but the Caavo proved me wrong. It's probably the best universal remote I've ever used. We usually have a lot of people over and with the Caavo it's easy for anyone to grab the remote and do whatever they need to do or find whatever. The best part is the voice search for youtube. I can just watch anything from my living room and I don't have to type out the whole title. I'm not worried about the $2 per month plan either. It's only $2. Would recommend to anyone looking to simplify their living room.

Wow!
**Update** It’s been 3.5 months with the Caavo and my initial review still holds true. I cannot say enough about this wonderful product, I have switched/added multiple components since then, and each and every time the Caavo center recognizes and quickly sets them up without any issues. The speed and performance is still excellent. If I could give this 10 stars I would, it blows my old Harmony Hub out of the water! **Original** I received my new Caavo Control Center yesterday and within 30 minutes I had my entire entertainment ecosystem completely connected and working beautifully (including the download of the latest software update)! To put it in perspective, I am a long time user of the Harmony Hub from Logitech, I was using a 4 port HDMI switch along with a Yamaha Soundbar (with pass through). The main reason that I wanted to give this new product a shot was the ability to have a simple remote (key word: simple) that would allow my wife and guests to use the system without having to watch the video I had to make and/or read the instructions I had to create and leave for them. My only Major complaint is that the remote does not have any number buttons on it - you have to click the Number Pad button and enter the channel to jump to or use the Guide button to navigate that way (I'm willing to overlook that since the rest of the benefits are so good). To have the ability to quickly jump from my Cox TV to my Apple TV or Roku is phenomenal - the Logitech method was not instant and usually degraded over time and would cause a revamp of the setup. With one push of the Caavo button - I can view my other components and quickly choose to jump without delay (Wow!!) Power on and off is smooth and easy - all controlled via the Caavo remote control. Even though it has been less than 24 hours since I fired this up - I am so happy with the entire system - Thanks Caavo!

Almost Perfect, Good Luck Logitech
For anyone saying this product is tricky to set up or difficult to use, I have one question....did you ever try to set up and use a Logitech or any other universal remote? I've used about a dozen different universal remotes over the years, from logitech to Control4 and even gave the new Fire TV Cube a try (neat, but fail), and to me, Caavo's vision is the future of the home entertainment remote and hub. For me personally it's a five star device. HOWEVER, for some people (as previously mentioned in other reviews) who need ARC capability to view their smart TV apps, or need like 8 inputs, or need total control of their TV hdmi inputs in addition to the Caavo inputs, this might not be for you. But for those of you who have three or four components plus your TV and soundbar and like to watch a combination of traditional cable, Blu Rays, and streaming from multiple apps like I do, then I suggest that you buy this device immediately. First of all, it takes no time at all to unplug cables from your existing components and add them to your Caavo hub, which is then connected to the TV. I will add that this replaced a traditional hdmi 4-port switch that cost $40 alone with zero other capability, which shows the value of the Caavo remote before even considering the smarts behind it. So once all hooked up to the Caavo, it takes it away from there and the entire setup is done through its on-screen user interface (which is fancy but could be fancier). The unit goes through all the prompts itself to detect which devices are hooked up, and then with a little input from me I was up and running in roughly twenty minutes. It detected my Hisense TV, Fire TV and Blu ray player, and I helped it determine my cable provider and the input for my PC, as well as choosing Sonos for my soundbar brand and logging into apps. Compared to what I used to have to do to set up a logitech remote (both PC and mobile-based), this process had me in awe, and I was giddy at how easy it was and how flawlessly the process went. From there, I gladly signed up for the $20/year subscription (it's a no brainer) to utilize the universal search feature, among others, and began to tinker with the remote. WOW.... I am seriously impressed, not necessarily by the look or quality of the remote, but by the sheer power and functionality that it contains (and it does feel quite nice in the hand, too). The ability to use my "universal remote" as the super smart A/V brains of my living room is astounding, and searching across multiple devices and services with results organized immediately in one place is glorious and is the future of home entertainment. And then comes the "cool" factor of searching for a show or movie, selecting to watch it in Plex or wherever, and having Caavo root through all the devices/apps/menus so that it literally goes right to that show and starts it without me having to select Input/Plex/Movies/Forrest Gump/Play. A big time saver and really neat. This is not to mention that once set up, the remote and switcher have worked very reliably and fast. And the new Caavo user interface that is now overlayed on my TV screen makes accessing and viewing all my devices, apps, and media so darn easy that it brings a smile to my face, not to mention my wife's! Thank you Caavo for finally establishing a new direction for the home hub/remote control industry and setting the bar as high as you did with this product, and I look forward to more products and innovations soon.

Goodbye, Harmony. Hello, Caavo.
I could never satisfactorily get my Logitech Harmony Elite to control my Sonos Playbar consistently -- and had to resort to using either the cable remote or the Apple TV remote to do so (this was ongoing for 2 years). I spent $350 for a "universal" system and still had to have 3 remotes...grrrr. Got a Caavo Control Center recommendation somewhere that Amazon lurks (Facebook? Instagram? -- who knows?) and thought that for $59, it was worth exploring. I did some online research and studied the setup advice via the Caavo website and it seemed easy enough -- and specifically called out Sonos as a supported brand, so I bought this. It was surprisingly easy to setup (they had a printed warning statement to follow instructions via their website -- but I am a guy and I don't follow instructions). I have an LG OLED TV, Panasonic 4K Blu-Ray player, Apple TV 4K, Sonos surround system, and my cable company's Arris set-top box. The onscreen guide walked me through step-by-step and found both the TV and the Apple TV with no problem. Once I identified the manufacturer of my Blu-Ray player, it worked immediately as well. For the Sonos setup, the Caavo prompt just asked to where it was connected and how (Optical/TOSLink to the TV) and it was ready after setting up wifi! NOTE: I do have three Playbars in three different rooms and when it searched the wifi, it found all three -- and I had to guess which IP address was the one I wanted. I would like to think it was the Caavo that knew, but I selected the first one and coincidentally, it was the correct one the first time! The only issue with my devices was my TDS cable set-top box (Arris is the manufacture) and it could not find either the provider or the manufacturer -- but did allow me to map my Arris remote to the Caavo one -- and it works like a charm, even though it took a bit longer to do. That doesn't mean it was difficult, just that there were a lot of buttons to "train" and not every one matched -- but I'm not blaming Caavo :) At any rate, when all was done with the setup, I was asked if I wanted voice control and then to login/confirm with Google and Amazon via the prompts -- and that was a cinch as well. It asked about other services (HBOGo/HBONow/Plex/etc.) and I just had to login to their "/link" sites and input a 4-digit code to tie them in. There is a fee Caavo would like to charge you for full featured content storage, favorites, etc. -- but it is only $1.99/mo OR 19.99/year OR $49.99/lifetime. It is not required, but probably a good idea, and after using the system quite a bit, I changed my preference from the 19.99 to the 49.99 because they would never charge my credit card again and the features seemed to be worth the little bit of money -- which essentially is the difference between the $99 list price of the Control Center and Amazon's highly discounted price (I see it was $69 today and I paid $59 three days ago). One big difference from my Harmony: the Control Center is an 4-input/1 output HDMI switch, so my LG 'smart' TV does not get confused every time I switch devices and open up the connector dialog...a big plus. I have everything in a cabinet and now the only things connected to the TV (other than power) is a single HDMI cable and the TOSLink connector to the Sonos. Last note, this does have RF, but both my LG TV and the cable box required IR -- and there is a one plug, two-headed IR cable that included. The setup walks you through determining if you need it and then how to set it up. Very easy. The remote is small, has few buttons and is very easy to use. I am impressed and the Harmony is in storage.

Great Packaging, Easy Setup and Amazing product!
First off, let me say that the box/packaging that the Caavo device came in was simple, yet elegant. I loved the presentation! I decided to go ahead and buy the product after seeing the original while I was visiting my friend on vacation. It made the whole entertainment experience so streamlined that I decided to go get one myself. When I looked on Amazon, I quickly realized that there was a new version of the Caavo Entertainment center so I took a chance and bought that one instead (Didn't hurt that the price was fairly affordable!). It kind of comes across as a streaming device but it's much more - It connects all of your devices that connect to your tv and allows you to control it just with the sound of your voice. I connected my PS4, my Roku and my TV to the Caavo in just a few minutes. I don't have much time for entertainment anymore so when I do relax, I want to make sure it's seamless and without too much thought. That's what Caavo brings. Simplicitiy, Modern tech and a great entertainment experience. I'm definitely going to recommend this to my friends!!

Caavo, where have you been all my HDMI life?
The Caavo Control Center (which I will just refer to as “Caavo”) fills a technology gap that has existed for many, many years. As new types of HDMI-connected devices enter the market, consumers become increasingly perplexed by not only hooking up all of these devices in the proper way but also finding all of the loads of digital content on these devices. Caavo tackles both of these issues in a way that is simple yet elegant. This is not just a run-of-the-mill HDMI hub, it’s much more. It abstracts away all of your devices and streaming services so that you can get back to just watching what you want, when you want it. Hope you enjoy my mini-review of the Caavo Control Center! Setup The setup process has been truly fine-tuned to make it quite easy. The Caavo box has 4 HDMI ports for all of your devices to plug into, and one that goes out to either your TV or to an AVR (Audio/Video Receiver). Be sure you use good, quality HDMI cables to connect your 4K/UHD devices. Also, make sure you have enough cables before starting the setup process. You probably will need a new one for connecting the Caavo to your TV or AVR. A typical setup requires you to unplug all of your HDMI-connected devices from your TV or AVR and then re-plug them into the Caavo. What’s great is that you now can organize all of those cables a bit better. Once you plug in those device HDMIs, you just connect another HDMI (out) from the Caavo to either your TV or AVR. Plug in an Ethernet cable (it does have built-in WiFi if you don’t have an Ethernet connection). Hook up the IR Blasters (so that you can transmit Infrared signals in closed cabinets or for devices that don’t have network controls and only use IR). Then just plug in the Caavo to power and go to the TV for the easy setup on-screen. I found the on-screen setup to be extremely easy to use and navigate. The setup screens walk you through not only identifying what HDMI devices are connected (it does this automagically) but also tests and configures how you watch and listen to your video and audio. The Caavo remote will pretty much replace much of the standard functionality that all of your other remotes do (there may be some functions that will occasionally make you use the device’s remote, but that isn’t often). Also, if Caavo detects a cable or satellite provider device attached to it, it will walk you through that setup so that you can easily tune to channels or shows and watch or record them. Later, you link your Caavo with a Caavo account. This allows you to say what services you subscribe to so that when you search for shows or movies, Caavo can better find them and get your watching them. Also, you can set up playlists using the smartphone app. Find something you want to watch? Just add it to the list. It’s great to create lists for parents or friends and just share it. Usage The setup shouldn’t take long to do honestly. And once you have everything plugged in and configured, the fun begins. The Caavo button on the remote will become your new best friend. You use it to launch the control center and access your devices and shows and streaming channels, as well as playlists. Depending on which device you use, the Caavo remote will automatically configure the proper buttons for use. And if you “long press” a button, it will provide some other functions. With some DVRs and streaming services, Caavo can deep link into watchlists (e.g., things you have recorded or shows on streaming service watch lists) making it really easy to find the shows that you want to watch or have recorded. In terms of finding content, you can use the built-in voice search capability which works quite well. When it finds what you want, you can click through to watch, rent, or buy the content. The nice thing is, Caavo search is not constrained to a single device or service, it searches across everything you have configured or connected. Pressing the Caavo button powers on your system, regardless of whether you are directly connected to a TV, AVR, or soundbar. It will automatically set the right input (based on your initial setup), and if you choose a particular service, it will activate and tune to the appropriate device. You can also set a preferred device for viewing certain streaming services. Like watching Netflix on your Apple TV because of the viewing experience? Just set it as the preferred device. And pressing the power button will shut off everything together. If you have a voice-enabled service like Amazon Alexa or Google Voice, you can even configure Caavo to work with that. There is a required service plan (just $19.99 per YEAR - not month) that enables voice search, guides, universal search, deep linking, and more. It is not required though (but I highly recommend getting it). This “mini” review only scrapes the surface of the features and functions of the Caavo. I’m happily using it in my man cave! Hope this review is useful! Pros: * No need for multiple remotes to control things (just use the Caavo remote) * No need for complex diagrams or instructions for your family members or guests on how to use your home entertainment setup * No need to remember which Input to use on your TV or AVR - there is only one and Caavo knows how to show the video * No need to remember which service is on which streaming device - Caavo remembers that too Cons: * For those people with LOTS of devices, you do have to choose four of them only to connect to the Caavo. * Be sure you have a high-speed HDMI cable (18 Gbps) if you are hooking to a 4K TV - I had to get one to connect to my 4K TV

WAY better than expected for this long-time Harmony user
A long time Harmony universal remote user, I saw a review for Caavo on CNET and was intrigued. Harmony works fine (when it works), but it's setup is complex, it is a pain to add/change components, is slow, and often needs 2 or 3 'tries' to get everything on. As someone who wants a unified remote that can handle my setup (which is always changing, now is Apple TV/Sonos focused, with some Xbox and Fire Stick use) and be easy for my wife/kids to use, I jumped on this and ordered one (as well as a few of their lighted cables). A week in, the Caavo --not without some flaws -- is WAY better than expected. It's like a Harmony that works, on steroids, and does a ton more. You expect with a universal remote that it can turn everything on/off with a click, and seamlessly control multiple components. Caavo does this really well --but now using it, it's really the 'point of entry' in what it is trying to do, which is unify and simplify your entertainment experience. First off, the 'magic trick' is that Caavo automatically recognizes what you plug into it. You don't have to tell it or plug your remote into a computer. You plug your devices into the HDMI ports and it automatically recognizes and configures them. It was amazing. Caavo found every device I threw at it (6 in total, Apple TV, LG TV, Firestick, Xbox 1, a Sony BD player, and a Sonos Beam--more impressive as the Sonos wasn't directly plugged into the Caavo). Harmony I remember having to figure out which year/model my TV, BD player, etc. was. Caavo recognized everything and I was set up (including my favorite TV apps) in about 10 minutes. Personally had no issues on setup, everything worked the first time. Another 5 minutes and I set it up with the Alexa function in my Sonos Beam (which is super cool in that I can turn it on/off via voice, search for shows, and even find my remote by asking Alexa). Plus the remote itself is really good - responsive, elegant, logical (I like the little stand that props it up on the bottom and helps you figure out which side is up -- take notes Apple!!!) So now in about 15 minutes I have a one-remote solution. Everything works seamlessly, and way better than Harmony. Have not had any hiccups in a week of use so far. Great for people that want to simplify their setup. But this really was only the entry point on what is proving to be one of my favorite devices I have (like Eero, see my review for that). The cool stuff I like: -Universal remote works with everything and buttons map logically. The coolest feature is it if you lightly touch some of the buttons their function (for that device) show up on the TV. Genius! I tap one button and on the TV it explains it's the 'Home' button on Apple, etc. No hunting in the dark. -EVERY remote now works with universal functionality. This isn't advertised much, but now my old remotes not only still work, BUT they act as 'universal' in that they trigger the whole system through the Caavo. So if I want to use my old Apple TV remote (which sorta sucks), when I press a button, EVERYTHING turns on -the TV, soundbar, etc, and goes to the Apple TV home screen. Same with my Xbox controller. And in fact, I can be on Apple TV, and grab the Xbox controller, and it switches to Xbox! Again, they need to tout this feature a lot more. -Voice search - just started using this, it's really cool. Basically, it's a universal search to go with the universal remote. There is a button you can press on the remote to ask it to search for programs or switch a device. In my experience, it works a ton better than the Siri on Apple TV, both in recognizing what I'm asking, but also locating shows. Twice now my kids have asked to watch something I didn't know, did voice search on the Caavo, and it found it. And it finds it not only on the device but the available services it's on, and it knows (from setup) which ones you use, so with a click now you go right to the show you want to watch. This works WAY better in my experience than the universal search within the Apple TV app The stuff I don' like -The service plan. As others have noted, Caavo is $99 but charges $2/mo or $20/y for a 'service plan'. After using it, I get it as it's not just a universal remote, but really has a lot of sophisticated search and discovery features. But I'd rather pay for this upfront. I'd like a lifetime service option and would easily pay another $100 for that upfront -- this device is worth 2x what they are charging -Switching to apps on Apple TV can be a bit slow. I think this is because (from what I've read) the way Caavo actually controls Apple TV (it uses some type of AI that literally scrolls across the screen for you), and it's not any slower than me doing it manually, but I'd like this to be faster -the App needs work - I like the app they have (downloaded it yesterday), but other than making lists it has limited functionality. I'd like the app to be able to launch programs directly, and maybe have a remote control feature like the Apple TV has. Anyway, reading some of these reviews, I think those people need to spend time with the Caavo to appreciate it. This long time Harmony user is now a Caavo fan. The Harmony is being retired...

I didn’t expect it to be this good
I’m enjoying mine. I replaced a harmony remote that always caused issues for my kids. This works flawlessly and was ridiculously easy to setup. I never expected it to recognize my 8 year old Sony LCD and Onkyo receiver. I use an Apple TV, dish, fire stick, and LG blu ray player. Caavo recognized all of them and the setup worked perfect. The remote would be easier to use with a keypad, but it’s not a huge deal to use the keypad button and favorites. My family loves the voice control on the remote and Alexa integration. There is a lot of future potential here. I’d love to see the app replicate all the remote functions and include some smart home functions. This is the most impressive tech I’ve used in a long time. 12-23-18 Update: I bought a second unit to use upstairs in the game room. This is primarily a kid TV. I had to use the included IR blaster for the TV. It’s a cheap Visio that doesn’t have HDMI CEC I guess. The logitech previously worked intermittently to power TV on/off. Now it works every time. Switching between Dish, Fire TV, and Apple TV works great. It didn’t identify an older Apple TV, but recognized something was plugged in. I just had to tell it what the device was and it set everything up. The buttons for Dish 30 second skip and 10 second rewind could be easier to use. I’d prefer functionality to be reversed for skip and fast forward. I’m looking forward to more IFTTT integration. I’d love for caavo to show ring doorbell on fire tv when bell is pressed. It’s good to see that are adding features like IFTTT. I also wish you could buy a household subscription rather than a single subscription for each device. Alexa control only works on one caavo. My second wish would be able to name them differently for Alexa to recognize family room and game room.
