I knew about ball winders, but didn't want to dedicate space for something kinda big based on what I needed it for. I mainly just need to tighten up the last half or so of skeins or make a cone of cotton easier to knit from. I learned to make center pull balls on a paper towel roll, but it always felt like I could have fit way more yarn in the ball. This solves that problem, and it's durable. The fact that there's a dedicated handle on this means I can wind a much larger ball before it gets too unwieldy to manage. There's no notch to hold the yarn, but I find that tying a loose knot in one of the grooves works well enough. I can't think of a reason not to buy this short of having too much pain in your hands to grip thin or small objects.

Decently made, and was useful for making a thread ball. No instructions, but thankfully YouTube has several videos to learn from.

I accidentally came across this item when looking for specialty wooden needles. I was intrigued so I looked it up and found out what a nostepinne is. What it is is a perfect tool for winding a ball of yarn from a skein with the yarn pulling from the center. Now I can wind my yarn, put it in my yarn bowl and knit away without my yarn falling off my lap or my kitten dragging the skein under the furniture.

I love the wood grain and the smoothness of the pieces, and how it looks similar to my wooden yarn swift; however, it would have helped to have written instructions on how to put the pieces together. I had to rely on the online pictures of the product to know where to put what. I think it will hold up well and I find it to be a great value for the money: everywhere else I've researched are so expensive, at or over $100.00, and the only other reasonably priced winder is plastic.

Now that I have all the bugs worked out, love this thing.

The Nostepinne is beautiful and feels nice in my hands. The finish is smooth so yarn winding is a pleasure. It came tightly wrapped in paper that was secured with tape spiraled the entire length of the wood so it was difficult to unwrap. I had to cut it very carefully to avoid damaging the finish. A little bit of tape at the top and at the bottom would be sufficient.

Wonderful! Just a bit smaller than my first nostepinne, so it creates yarn balls just right for shorter segments of yarn. I love it!

I love how portable the Nostepinne is, it fits right into my project bag and I can wind anywhere my mechanical winder cannot go. Makes packing for a vacation a bit less frustrating knowing that I can pick up additional yarn at a local yarn shop if I need more and only have to bring my Nostepinne, needles and current project.

Nicely made.... smooth finish...

I have two. Love them. One is in my bag beside my chair at home & the other stays in my GO Bag. Love the convenience!! Easy to use anytime & anywhere. No bulk. No clamping a device to a table. SO easy to ball yarn, even sitting at the doctor’s office with my Mom. With a little practice you can easily make a yarn cake as nicely done as any. 😊
