Very good JRPG. As a person who grew up playing certain other JRPGs (Evolution Worlds, Alundra, etc.) this game reminds me of a mix of Skies of Arcadia and a bit of Persona. The main reason how I stumbled onto this game was the fact that I wanted to play an old school feel of a JRPG with turn based combat (which is a dying breed sadly). This game is a breath of fresh air so far. I have around close to 10 hours clocked in so far and the game is very vast with excellent music (has an early 2000s and late 90s feel) and I love the combat system and fast travel as well as turbo mode if you need to move fast to a new location. Lots to explore so far in this game as well. Everything came in the package (50 mira coin, soundtrack, and steel case which looks beautiful). Thank you Xseed for bringing this game over to the West!

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel - Decisive Edition is an excellent RPG that fans old and new will love. For starters, this game is packaged with a beautifully designed steel case, a CD with music on it, a 50 mira coin, and an instruction manual with little comics in the back! Talk about getting your money's worth! Whats new in this version?- added lines of dialogue, updated graphics, turbo mode, and all DLC is unlocked! In the game you play as a teen boy named Rean, who joins the newly developed Class VII at Thors Military Academy. This class consists of some of the best characters I've seen in RPG's, with each of them having unique personalities that keeps you interested through the whole game. Through out the game you attend school, bond with friends, and go on field trips that generally involve you fighting evil forces and investigating drama, which is excellently written. While at school, you can bond with your classmates. Through these bonding events, you will witness heartfelt moments and even some romance that will keep you wanting more. Not once was I ever bored playing the game. Story 10/10 The combat system is superb! the game is turned based and each fighter is unique. For example, one staff user is primarily a healer, while the other is an attacker. Knowing this, you can change up your teams to fight how ever you wish. Skills are determined by the orbaments you have equipped, and crafts are unique to each character. Enemies have weaknesses that you can reveal via attacking them, and squad members can be linked to attack together. Overall combat is a lot of fun. Combat 10/10 You have to understand that this is an updated version of a Vita/PS3 game, so it is not the most beautiful thing ever, but it still manages to look great. The colors are spot on, the characters look clean, the art is beautiful, battle effects are cool, and the environments are simply OK. Also, the game runs at 60 fps. Voice acting is really good and the additional lines added to this game are appreciated. Music fits perfectly and is actually enjoyable, but the battle music does get a little stale while grinding out levels, but that is expected. Graphics & Sound- 9/10 Overall I highly recommend this game!

The Decisive Edition comes with a lovely collectible Mira coin(which has some weight to it), an absolutely beautiful steel book case and a "sampler" soundtrack with something like 25 songs. It also comes with a full color manual that has a small comic in the back. I think for the price point, it was well worth it. The steel book alone is worth the price of admission, pictures honestly do not do it justice. I played the original Vita edition of Trails Of Cold Steel and fell in love with the characters, world, music, etc. I bought this decisive edition when I heard that it contained all the dlc as well as the additional 5,000+ added voice lines that had been recorded for the steam version(this is that version + the dlc). I am still absolutely in love with this game. Besides one character(that i hated so much I actually blocked him out of my mind. Fantastic voice actor though). This is honestly one of my favorite JRPGS. My first playthrough had over 100 hours and I've already started up my second. It does start out a little slow but considering this game is the first in a four part series, it does make sense. I think for a PS3/Vita port it does look really good, sharp textures, clean models, etc. The sound mixing is still solid and having an added turbo mode is great. It's so nice to speed through battles when you're grinding(or just couldn't avoid an enemy in time) is seriously a godsend. If you're at all curious about this game I really do recommend picking it up. I myself picked it up all those years ago because I had heard good things about it as well as Trails in the Sky(Which to my knowledge is one of the first Trails games in the series if not the first) and I wasn't disappointed. Hopefully you won't be either if you do decide to pick it up. The only issue I had was less with the game and more with how Amazon ships it out. It came in a flimsy bubble mailer and while the contents were okay and the box wasn't significantly damaged, it still grinds my gears that they wouldn't think to put something like this in at least a very small box.

Having played the original releases of the game on the Vita and PS3, I can say without a doubt this game is one my absolute favorites. The PS4 version looks crisp and the added audio dialogue is also really great. The story is full of fantastic characters and great world building. I love the battle system, linking the characters up and due to story reasons not letting you get complacent with who is in your party at all times. I definitely recommend the game, I’ve sunk plenty of hours into the game, getting to know Rean and his classmates -even the ones that seem to be one off npcs, they have their own personalities and lives that Rean is a part of- and exploring the world the game offers. There is a lot of dialogue, and it may seem slow at times but it’s fully worth it especially since this game is the first of the Erebonia Arc in the Trails series and no background knowledge of the other games in the series.

This is, truly, my favorite JRPG series of all time, and I have to warn you the cover art is misleading. If you think "oh I know what this game is going to be like" by looking at the art, you're probably going to be surprised. But actually describing the game is also pretty difficult. It's complex, it's nuanced, it's part of a series of games that spans over nine entries so far, but stands well alone as the first in the "Cold Steel" segment of that franchise, a good, easy place to jump into the world of Zemuria and get immersed in its lore, culture, politics, heroes, troubles and triumphs. You don't need to play the other Legend of Heroes games to play this one and enjoy it. In this game you will find everything. Great humor, an amazing sound track, top notch characters, world building, story telling and enjoyable turn based combat. If you're undecided or curious I cannot stress enough how worthwhile this game is not just to try, but to stick to the end. The twists and turns of the game may seem almost low-key or slow paced at times, but that's because the game never cuts corners, never hurries development of either plot or characters. And when the action does pick up, you'll find you've grown attached to Class VII along the way without even realizing how or when it happened that you got so invested. If you play this game to the end I promise you, you will be so invested you won't want to wait even a minute to pick up the sequel. If you've played other Legend of Heroes games you probably know what you're in for, if this is your first Legend of Heroes game, throw your preconceptions out the window and sit back, let yourself enjoy the adventures of Class VII, take in the world, and go at your own pace. The difficulty levels offer challenges for any level of gameplay, but the real meat of these games is the story and the characters. There is one con to this game I have to mention, especially for anyone tired of certain tropes. Early on Rean and Alisa undergo a dumb harem anime trope that they abandon by the second game and even reference as dumb in the third game. If you find it annoying like I did I promise you they let it die and the rest of the game shouldn't be judged on that one blemish.

the shipping was pretty fast, it came just in time for my birthday the manual has cute little comic strips, the soundtrack is great and i love the coin. after finishing tokyo xanadu ex+, ive been eager to play another great worthwhile jrpg, and this one was perfect! this is my first trials of cold steel game, and im excited to jump into the rest of the series as well =)

If you haven't tried a Trails game this is a good place to start! I played this game first on PC and it was easy to follow even without playing the earlier Trails in the Sky games. Combat is excellent; turn-based but without being dull. The story has drama, humor, and action aplenty. This series is worth every hour spent exploring Erebonia (and I've logged well over 100) The characters are intriguing and the English dub is done well. As for the physical goodies, the soundtrack is great as with all falcom games. There is an adorable comic in the manual that is worth a read and of course the 50 Mira coin is a good quality for collectors to enjoy. The steel case is beautiful and I appreciate that they didn't cover up the art with logos or words. So what in Aidios' name are you waiting for?

Great old school turn based rpg system with a modern look. I will be replaying this for years to come.

I pre ordered this game months in advance not knowing what to expect as my friend told me to give this game a try. I played trails in the sky but never the trails of cold steel series and I can definetly say this game is a great legend of heroes game! I love the added bonuses they give you especially for the games price being less than a full priced game. The gameplay is great and I love the story so far and the graphics are very good The added soundtrack and mira replica coin was a bonus too. The coin is well made you can tell by the weight of the coin. I will definetly be picking up cold steel II, III, and IV when they release.

Bought this game on PC last fall and fell in love with it, had to pick it up on PS4 for the extra stuff with the decisive edition and to support the games releases in the west. If you’ve never played a Legend of Heroes game, i urge you to to try this one out. The combat system is great and the world building is some of the best of any game I’ve played. It’s really worth a shot for anyone into anime and/or turn-based JRPGs.
