I have been using WinZip for decades and I prefer to use WinZip instead of the build in file compression that is included with Windows due to the convenience of WinZip. The last version I installed on my computer being 18.5 pro. However, I built a new desktop computer and I wanted to install a newer version of WinZip on it which was WinZip 23. Since I skipped several versions of WinZip between 18.5 and 23, I am not sure when changes to menus occurred, but 23 has a different interface to 18.5. Performance The speed with which WinZip 23 compresses files depends on your processor. Toms Hardware has benchmarked several different compression programs in the past using different processors and found that the choice of processor could half the time required for compression. Zipping large numbers of files with WinZip 23 is very fast, but that could also be a function of my new desktop which is so much faster than my last computer. Features WinZip 23 can handle most compression file types including Zip, Zipx, RAR, 7Z, LHA, BZ2, IMG, and ISO. Basically, it works with the most common file formats. Backup If you want features like the ability to create and schedule backups which is very convenient and something I used my 18.5 Pro version for most often, you need the Pro version of Winzip 23. An upgrade is another 25 dollars (slightly more than just buying it outright) and so it may be best to just buy the Pro version outright if backing up is something for which you plan to use Winzip Snooping Under advanced settings, you will find a setting that allows WinZip to collect and report anonymous statistics. This is checked by default and you may want to uncheck that one. Windows Integration Winzip can add integration to Windows Explorer so that you can right click on a file and options for Winzip appear along with the standard windows options such as Open and Rename. This is convenient since it skips the step of needing to open WinZip first. Overall Yes, there are other options to WinZip that are less expensive. But WinZip has been around for forever for a reason and that is convenience. It works seamlessly and can open and zip most compression file types.

I've been using Winzip, Winrar, 7zip and other similar tools since the mid 90's. I'm sure if I jogged my memory I could regale you with the pros and cons of all of them and give a detailed analysis of the efficiency and reliability of each, but ehhh.... We're living in an age with 1tb SD cards. Compression efficiency isn't that important anymore. I find myself using compression methods more for tidying things up and keeping my files organized than I do saving space nowadays. That being said, I like having Winzip as a purchased product. It's deeper integration in windows saves a few clicks for common tasks and... I dunno, it just seems nicer to use. I thought I'd have more to say about it given how long I've been using these types of programs but it's the exact opposite. My familiarity with them is glossing over the details. It's just nice to have the full version after decades of using freebies. Satisfying.

I have a TON of old files on an even older terrabyte external hard drive that I not only need to transfer but upload to clouds so my colleagues can access them and this compressor software has been instrumental in cutting down the headache and hassle of organizing those files. It is incredibly easy to use and has made the process nearly painless for me.

I've been using Winzip since the EARLY days and it has always impressed me. There was a time I went to 7zip because it was free, but now that I'm back to Winzip I can see what I've been missing. A simple program that just works. And with a great interface. Buy it.

This software was very easy to install and register, very straightforward. The winzip 23 software is the latest version of a product that is an industry standard in compression and encryption. The program makes it much easier to manage your archives with an expanded file system interface like windows explorer. Menus and options are easier to find and use than before. There are tools for reducing and compressing images specifically as well as a tool to convert to .PDF format. Lots of extra bells and whistles beyond standard compression. This version also supports integration with your cloud! The encryption is an excellent tool to have for sensitive data and works well, my only complaint is that you can open the archive and see the contents, titles and file types even when password protected. You aren’t prompted for the password until you try to decompress or view the contents of the archive. For security, I feel that the password should be required to view anything about the contents. Other than that misstep with encryption security, this software works wonderfully and is very useful in data and archive management!

If you share files via DropBox or email or the Cloud, you use this to compress files. You can browse or edit files and preview them.

I see a lot of negative reviews from people who had to pay again to activate their software. That did not happen to me. I received the CD version and installed it on my Windows PC (64 bit Windows 10). After launching the software, I got a popup box saying to register the software. The last option on the screen is to enter your activation code instead of paying a fee. My activation code is printed inside the CD case (right under where the CD was mounted). I typed it in and it worked fine. I did have to enter my email address, and they used that to email me a backup installation code in case I needed to reinstall the software. The software itself works great. It has many more features than the ZIP software that is built into Windows 10. This is a great way to archive and compress collections of files. WINZIP has been around for many years and I trust their quality and reliability. Software to uncompress and unarchive the ZIP files is easily available for all of the computer platforms that I own (including smartphones).

This Corel WinZip 23 Standard - File Compression & Decompression software is actually pretty good software. I've had many versions of WinZip over the years the last version I've been using was WinZip 17. WinZip 23 has some updates and does what it claims it can do. My main uses have been to open zipped files and to zip some files to make them smaller when emailing them. I have had no problems with this software. I like many of the Corel products that have been on the market over the years, including their Paintshop, Photo Director and Video Studio.

I have been using Winzip since its early version including the recent Winzip 22 Pro. I was a bit surprised by the negative comments from reviewers who thought we needed to purchase the software when they received it as a free Vine product. All we needed to do is the go to the registration option (at the bottom of the page when we start the program for the first time) and enter our name and the provided registration code. The design of the registration process might not be the best with the purchase option panel shown on top but I think it is unfair to give it a negative review without checking on the other options. Overall, the Winzip 23 seems to work quite well so far and works pretty fast for the unzipping process. The software also comes with a variety of options including encryption, PDF conversion, and water mark as such when adding files to generate the zip file (see attached screen for the option). We can also preview the zipped files contents by simply clicking on the zip file to expand the contents. So far I have not seen any pop-up advertisement from this software. If they do exist, all we need is to disable the Winzip start-up process in the the task manager. Done that for the earlier versions.

Really, my review title says it all. Winzip *is* the gold standard. It will create/decompress zip files and I also use it to decompress RAR files. It's fast and easy to use with a great UI. If you don't already own it, this is something everyone should have.
