Safe for bettas
I've gone through several of the mini-heaters, trying to find one that will keep my bettas comfortable without overheating them. This is the best I've found so far. You can program the desired temperature, and it seems to keep it pretty constant, even in smaller quantities of water. I've been using the first one for several months now, and decided to get another for my second betta to replace the underperforming mini-heater he's currently stuck with.

Very cool heater!
I really like all of the features of this heater especially for this price. It's got a fairly slim profile although not quite as slim as the much more expensive Cobalt Neotherms. The heater adjustment being on the cable is a really nice feature too! I have had to adjust other heaters frequently recently and it's been hard trying to read the meter on the heater in the water as well as constantly dipping my hands in the tank to adjust the heater while trying to not drip water everywhere. So far, it's been keeping accurate temperatures, so hopefully that keeps up!

Safe for smaller fish and tank
Used to correct temp from 65 to 78 •F in a 2 gal tank housing a juvenile betta. Heater worked perfectly, gradually raising temp overnight. Display is clear; side vents not a problem. Small (1.5 in) betta often seen resting on top. Feel confident item meets safety quality as described.

Flashing readout
THere was a day when the digital readout on the heater was flashing. I Didnt know why this was happening. I looked in the little instruction sheet that came with the package, but nothing addressed this issue. SO i contacted the company. THey said that you should unplug it and shake it around in the water, or something like that. Actually the reason was that the water was not completely covering the heater, some of the heater was exposed to air. This is a really cool design element that I really appreciate about any company, so I am impressed. I filled the tank with a little bit more water and it stopped flashing. Great job! I like this little heater for Bettas.

Works great!
This heats up my 3 gallon tank just perfectly. Beta loves living in a nice 79 degree tank. That’s what I keep it set at anyway.

Works Great in Small Aquarium
I have a 3.5 gallon for my betta, and I was worried how this heater would work in his tank. Luckily, it works perfectly! He's definitely perked up since I added it and has a lot more energy now that his water is the correct temperature. He even uses it as a seat sometimes and rests on top of it.

Five star with some FIY adjustments
I’m very satisfied with the heating element and thermostat of this heater. The clicky button for temperature adjustment is easy to use and cycles around and around and around if you missed the mark the first two (or maybe three) times. I agree with all the other reviewers, the holes in the bottom and the sides of the heater are too large for any small fish. As every aquarium keeper knows, fish are not known to be super intelligent little creatures but are very curious of their surroundings, and will attempt to cram themselves into unwittingly, bad situations— like the small spaces of this heater. The best solution I could find was to bag the heater in a makeshift portion of netting that I cut from a dollar store bath puff with two zip ties. See pictures! I snipped two small holes in the back of the netting to stick the suction cups through to attach to the heater’s rear panel. I know that this “fix” voids my warranty and everyone should use their best judgment if attempting to DIY this heater themselves like I did. So far I’ve had this as a supplemental heater in my 36 gallon tank with this set up (80 degrees) and have had no issues so far.

A must have for any aquarium!
I am very pleased with this aquarium heater. It works very well, and I like that it displays the current water temp, as well as the set temp. No guesswork, hoping that it is working. I am using it in a 3 gallon tank, and the 20W is perfect. I liked this heater so much, we got 2 more for our other tanks. For my 5 gallon tanks I got the 50W versions to make sure they had enough power to heat the somewhat larger tanks quickly. They're working perfectly. Judging from my bettas' reactions, their previous heaters (simple Aqueon flat heaters 7.5W) did not work well. Once I put the NICREW units in, the fish immediately started hanging out in front of and above the new heaters. I'll take that as 2 fins up in approval.

Very happy with this purchase and the seller!
The first unit I received didn't work properly. The seller believed it to be defective and offered a replacement (I didn't even have to return the first unit). The replacement unit keeps the temperature in my 3 gallon Betta tank at a very consistent temperature. I had used 2 heaters before this one that did not heat the tank to the temperature I wanted. They didn't have a feature to set the desired temperature, which this one does. The only drawback to this heater is that its temperature isn't accurate. It's off by about 2 degrees. So I recommend that you use a thermometer and set the desired temperature according to what the thermometer says.

wonderful little heater
I don't have room for a quarantine tank, so need to rely on a 2 gallon fish bowl if I need to separate any of my fish or quarantine a new fish. It heats the water relatively quick, keeps great temperature and has a nice display, perfect for a small tank or bowl. (my bowl has curved sides with flat front and back) Also doubles as a a temporary emergency backup in case my main heater should fail. Very happy with my purchase!
