Plug and Play

Fantastic. Basically it's a kit that takes just a few minutes to put together. All the software you need (minus the game ROMS) is already on the SD card and the thumb drive is already formatted to drag and drop ROMS on a PC. Stick the SD card, thumb drive with a few ROMS, and your controller of choice into the Pi, and you're off to the races! All the documentation is included and well written. The controllers and Pi housing feel a little flimsy, but I still feel this is WELL worth the price!

5 Minutes!

That's all it took to set everything up. A little thermal paste here, a few screws there, pick my emulation system, and we're off! You will need a USB keyboard for setup, just a warning. Everyone should have one, but just letting you know so you're not caught unprepared. After initial setup, you won't need it again (unless you choose to reinstall everything).

An easy to setup and fun to run retro game station!

An amazing value, and very easy to follow instructions! I’ve used Raspberry Pi’s before and I’ve setup my own Retropie installation, but if I had bought this first the entire process would have been SO much easier. The controllers themselves work just great! Obviously for the price you’re not going to get a 100% perfect controller replica, but they’re functional and their size is just right. They’re a bit on the lightweight side, but durable feeling. Cord lengths vary, with the Genesis controller cords strangely enough having the longest cord out of bunch. The ability to load ROMs from the included USB dongle is amazing as well! An easy and fun way to play my archived games without the fear of the CD’s/Carts becoming damaged! If you have a large number of archived games to transfer to the system I do at least suggest enabling SSH on the system and using a SFTP program to transfer the files over your network. The one unfortunate thing with the system is that even after following instructions, I did have to configure every single controller in order to get them to work properly. Slightly annoying, but realistically that’s a one time brief grumble so take that complaint lightly.

Very nice setup

Love this setup. Easy to assemble. Comes with everything you need to get started. This comes with no games, just the system. Took a little tuning to get everything running but I've learned a lot over the last few weeks. My kids love play the games I grew up with.

A great complete kit

All the components needed to make a great RetroPie setup are included in this package. The way that the Pi case is constructed makes it easy to get the Micro SD card in and out so swapping different installs are a breeze and can also make it easy to take with me when traveling given it's small size. The included Micro SD card came installed with both Retropie and LibreElec Kodi OS so it's great to be able to switch between them if I want to. I've already installed quite a few ROMs from some of my favorite games and the emulators play them without any issues. Altogether this is a great kit and you don't need to buy a lot of different parts from various sellers because it's all in one package here.

Shouldn't have waited so long...

I can't believe I waited so long to finally get this. We haven't tested every controller yet. But everything we tested works amazing right out the box. I bought this for my husband for his birthday. We are a tech family. The preinstalled card is good, but the dual boot can cause issues for those that may not have much intuitiveness. For instance, when setting up RetroPie, you have to have the controller plugged in first, but if it's an NES controller, it automatically goes into Config mode before booting into RetroPie. The issue with that is once you set up the 8 buttons, the config gets stuck... unless you hold the A-button down. This will allow you to skip through the rest of the config and boot up RetroPie. The other thing that wasn't clear was that the USB stick that has all of the folders on it is just a holding place for you ROMS, and the RetroPie will automatically call to it and copy the matching folders to the folders on the PI. Wasn't an issue for us, but I can see how the unclear instructions could cause confusion for others. Raspbian is a clunky OS and seems a bit slow. My advice for both of these issues: get a Linux Distro that's suited for the Raspberry PI 3B+. Then, get RetroPie and install it from there onto the Distro. Treat RetroPie as a separate program. Ubuntu is what I recommend, as it will feel the same as Raspbian, but will have more options and allow you to become a more advanced user. There are a lot of tutorials on YouTube. ETA Prime is a good channel, but some of his videos are outdated and should be taken down. Overall though, this package is the best value and arrived very quickly. In fact, I had to order this two days before his birthday, was landed on a Sunday in order to surprise him since we share this Prime account. Guess what, it arrived on his birthday. I can't recommend this product enough.
