I am very happy with my purchase. I was also pleasantly surprised that the unit came with a very sturdy carry case, which I was not expecting. It works exactly as advertised and I have not had any problems so far. I like that the unit is thicker and more sturdy than other similar units I've owned, this gives the product feel more rugged and well-made. I found it strange that the cable is permanently attached to the drive, but I am sure that if you take care when using the unit, you should not have any problems. Make sure that you carefully remove and reattach the cable to its small housing beneath the unit each time. I can now read or write any kind of disc. Highly recommended!

I needed an outboard drive for my MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015). This drive conveniently comes with an adapter from USC-C to B which made it easy to connect to my old machine. For software, I downloaded a few files from VLC which allowed it to play BRD and I was away! The build quality is excellent and it takes all disc media. Plug it in and it is recognized. The first unit came damaged so it was operating erratically. I contacted Nolyth and they responded right away. They tried to send out a replacement right away but Amazon was not up to the task! Fortunately Coco stayed with the case and the replacement made it to me. I certainly appreciated having someone deal with the labyrinth that is Amazon so I could sit back and wait for the new drive to come!

Works well with MacBook Pro didn’t have any issues with it being recognized. Don’t expect this to play Blu-ray as Mac doesn’t have anything built in to support it. For Blu-ray you will need 3rd party software and there are many to choose from some being free.

I got this little drive to use with my Dell lap top. I have a Sony drive that I was using for a few years now, BUT I DID NOT LIKE MY SONY BECAUSE REQUIRED TWO USB PLUGS TO FUNCTION. This drive needs only one plug, USB C plug. So I compared this with SONY and I found that the picture is better. The customer service is fantastic. They e-mail me the owner's manual ahead of time and offered help if I need it. The drive is not noisy and does not have any vibrations. It looks good and functions good. I did not have a chance to record anything yet, but I will write about when I will do so. It comes with a very nice special case. Very well and carefully designed and made. I love it, and I recommend it. Buy it and you will be happy too. 10 STARS FROM ME. Thank you for this good drive, WE ALL NEED IT. DOES NOT VOME WITH ANY SOFTWARE. TO PLAY/ RECRD YOU NEED YOUR OWN SOFTWARE.

So happy with this purchase! It worked without issue with simply plugging it in. Used a blu-Ray ripping software and downloaded a free player for the laptop. It comes with a nice case for storage and besides the quality of the product the customer service is beyond amazing!! They’re friendly, responsive and super helpful. Definitely recommend this product and company, you won’t be sorry!!!

There are a lot of options out there for external DVD drives, but I highly recommend the Nolyth. It's a little more expensive than most, but is easy to set up and plays perfectly. I downloaded dozens on music CD's along with watching a couple movies - no issues. PLUS they provided a free vertical laptop stand which is great - that's right, free. Highly recommend!

I have an old, large, heavy Firewire LaCie CD/DVD burner that worked fine on my 10-year old 17" MacBook Pro (it has a Firewire port), but the computer had gotten old as well and it was time to upgrade. I purchased the latest 13" MBP with 4 USB-C ports, so of course all my USB legacy devices wouldn't plug in without a new hub, and I couldn't find any hubs that had Firewire ports. I did find on Amazon a Firewire to USB adapter (for $6), but it failed to allow the LaCie device to talk to the new MBP (nor did it work on the old 17" MBP). To access any of my (or my wife's) data off our backup DVD's, it was time to get a new device. After searching on Amazon and finding a number of CD/DVD/Blu-ray devices that were USB compatible, almost every one of them required BOTH a USB cable for data AND ANOTHER USB cable for power, thus eating up TWO USB ports (some came with one Y-cable, but still required 2 USB ports). Main brands were Samsung, Panasonic, LG, etc. Then I spotted this drive by NOLYTH and figured I'd give it a try -- it only requires a SINGLE USB-C connection to work (and comes with a USB-C to USB adapter for those who don't have the newer USB-C ports). When the package arrived, I opened it up, plugged it in to a USB-C port on the MBP, and away it went -- I could read my CD's and DVD's, and I tried writing to it as well. No problems (so far, anyway). Since this is the first Blu-Ray device we've ever had in the house, I never found a reason to purchase any movies on Blu-Ray disks prior, so my review doesn't address that feature. Once I buy a Blu-Ray movie and writeable Blu-Ray disks, I'll add to my review. I will say that the price for this device is a little steep compared to other brands, but the convenience of only needing ONE port instead of two is worth it to me.

This product works very well and I have had no issues with it. My only concern for its longevity is the fact that the usb cable is permanently attached to the blu ray drive itself. If the usb cable fails, the whole unit fails.

The drive does exactly what it is made for, read and burn Blu-Ray discs. This has been a perfect companion for my gaming laptop that does not have an internal disc drive. The USB 3.1 connection is fast, and it also comes with an adapter to change the type c plug to a USB 3.0/2.0 type b for older computers. The built-in cord is short, but I also purchased a USB C extension cable to go along with the drive so that has not been an issue. I love that it is powered by the single plug and does not need a second port or external power supply. As for noise level, it is not louder than you would expect for a disc drive when reading or burning data, and is very quiet when playing a movie. It also comes with a nice travel case with an extra pocket for holding blank discs or an extension cable. Overall this was a good value and does what I need. Satisfied customer.

I’m usually a bit skeptical when it comes buying certain things, especially when they’re for my Apple products. Since Apple is pretty restrictive, it can be hard to find good quality products that are compatible. After looking at a number of Blu-Ray drives and being unhappy with the many mixed reviews, I decided to go with this one. Despite not having many reviews, the positive feedback and the good reviews from a couple of other MacBook users gave me assurance. With the drive, I was easily able to burn files to Blu-Ray discs. Some people recommend buying software to burn with a Mac, but if you’re only interested in doing simple burning without many features, the Finder is fully capable of doing this. Also, as mentioned in other reviews, 3rd party software will be needed to play Blu-Ray discs. The case that comes with the drive is a nice addition. It’s semi-rigid and has a bit of padding, so it’s quite protective when the unit is being stored. The USB-C to USB 3.0 adapter is also a nice addition as it saves the hassle of having to buy a separate one to use with the unit. Overall, it’s a very nice unit and I highly recommend it. If I were to pick a con, it would be that the cable is hard to get out when it’s tucked into its designated nook, but it really is a minor con and not something you really have to worry about if you leave the cable out or if you don’t need the USB 3.0 adapter.
