heavy-based lamps that do not slide around or get knocked over easily. The quality of the light from the LED ...
This is my 2nd BrightTech lamp; the first was a floor lamp. This desk lamp has a magnifying lens which has greatly helped me with a hobby that requires me to work with small objects. The magnifying lens does not interfere with the lamp functioning just as a lamp. The light level is not adjustable as it is on the floor lamp; for the way I use the lamp, intensity adjustment would not be used anyhow. The thing that impresses me most about the two BrightTech lamps is the quality. They are solid, heavy-based lamps that do not slide around or get knocked over easily. The quality of the light from the LED source (they are not really 'bulbs' so I cannot use that terminology) cannot be compared to an incandescent lamp except that the difference is like looking through a clear window versus a dirty window. I probably will not purchase another incandescent desk lamp; I am sure I will be acquiring more BrightTech lamps.

and I wanted a brighter light to use while knitting so that I could see the individual stitches better. This light is amazing
I bought this because I am currently knitting a pair of mittens with a really dark navy yarn, and I wanted a brighter light to use while knitting so that I could see the individual stitches better. This light is amazing, and I really like the magnifying glass feature as well. My mom was so impressed with mine on a visit that she immediately ordered one for herself. At times, I do wish the neck of the lamp extended a bit farther, but I don't know how that would affect the stability, given the weight of the magnifying glsss area. Even so, I am very pleased with this lamp and still choose to give it 5 stars.

Excellent compact desktop magnifier with plug-in LED illumination and two different supports.
This compact, very bright LED tabletop magnifier is a vast improvement over a much larger, circular fluorescent clamp-on magnifier. I am visually-impaired (legally blind) but still have useful vision for reading and writing -- so long as there is bright, even illumination and some magnification for very small print. The LightView Pro Flex is the best magnifier of its type I've found. Of particular interest are the two bases -- one a very stable stand and the other a clip-on version with a large and powerful clamp. I have used both, and even used the flex portion alone to search for a small object lost under my desk. Found it! This is a plug-in, not battery, lamp, and 6w is lots of power for the LEDs which circle the magnifier lens. It can be used as a regular desk lamp if desired - at 12"+- off the desk surface it provides an even illumination circle of 18-20" diameter. Nice! The only improvement I would suggest is a dimmer option to reduce the light output when needed. When holding a small object under the magnifier the illumination can be so strong it's hard for me to see it clearly. LED color temp seems to be on the cool (daylight) side, and the magnifier/lamp housing barely gets warm even after many hours of use. Magnification is sufficient for my needs -- it's not a microscope -- and easier to use as a result. Magnifier lens is 3 3/4" in diameter; housing is about 5" dia overall. A larger version with a rectangular lens and a bit more magnification would probably be perfect for all sorts of close work using both eyes from further away. Top marks for this unit!

Exceeds expectations
This is very solidly built desk light. I was amazed at the weight of the base when I first started unpacking the lamp. Solid and heavy, this base is more than enough to keep the lamp stable in any position it is set to. The 'chip clip' clamp for use with a desk or chair is a far stronger spring clamp than I would expect. This is also very well built. You need both hands to open this clamp, and it's so strong that my wife had problems getting it open to clamp on the side of a counter. This is not cheaply made either. Overall, the quality and value for the price puts this desk lamp squarely at the top of the list. This is built well and has great versatility. The only improvement that could be made, and it's a stretch to find something, would be some sort of dust cover for the magnifying lens to keep it clean when not in use. If you are looking for a hobby or craft light with magnifier, this needs to be part of your consideration.

This is a great light and magnifying glass combo
This is a great light and magnifying glass combo. It's great for needlepoint. The only thing I didn't quite like is the clamp. I ordered the unit that has the interchangeable clamp and table stand base. The clamp is extremely hard to open which makes it sturdy, but the magnifying/lamp is too heavy to stay upright in various positions. It tends to be top-heavy and falls down if it's in an odd position that is not square withe the clamp. However, the clamp does not move because it's very tight. So, if I'm going to need to move the light around I use the table base instead. The base is very heavy and stays put with all angles you put the light. The magnifying/light does not fall over at all since the base is so heavy. The light is great. Nice and bright to determine the different shades of color when doing needlework. I'm glad I bought the interchangeable one because I'd be frustrated trying to work with the clamp.

A good lamp for needlework and hobbies
I'm very happy with this new magnifier lamp. I chose this particular one because it came with both a base and a clamp. I wanted to be able to stand the lamp next to me on the sofa while I do needlework. But I also wanted to be able to clamp it to a table if needed. The base is large, about 5 1/2" across and heavy enough to provide quite a bit of balance while standing on the surface of the sofa. The neck is long enough to reach just over my shoulder, and flexible enough to adjust over my work, if needed. The magnifier works well, although I haven't used it for the special close work I needed it for. I expect to get to that soon. I especially like the brightness and whiteness of the light. I used to have a mag light about this size but it had a circular bulb that eventually burned out, and I was unable to find a replacement. So I was particularly interested in this lamp because it is LED. I won't have to worry about replacing a impossible-to-find bulb. Another feature that turned out to be useful is the power cord plugs into the bottom portion of the lamp's neck. This proved useful in that I could unplug the power cord in order to plug it into the wall outlet which is behind the sofa. We position the cord between sections of the sofa in order to have the lamp so close at my side. Once the cord was plugged into the wall, I could plug it into the lamp. But the best part is when company visits. I'll be able to unplug the lamp and put it aside without having to move the cord or get behind the couch again to unplug and plug in again. This is an unexpected convenience. I feel that I have to be a bit careful positioning the magnifier because I saw other reviews state that the lamp broke where it meets the neck. So far I've had no trouble in that regard. There really isn't anything that replaces a strong pair of magnifying glasses for needlework,(or younger eyes) but having the magnifier AND the bright white light makes this ideal for my needs.

Great value, exactly what I hoped for
I needed a good, clear, bright light for doing my close up work (I'm a needle felter, and often need to see shades of color and small details), and a good hands-free magnifying glass (that I didn't have to wear on my head or around my neck). It was becoming especially important with the days getting shorter, to extend my workshop time. This lamp was exactly what I had hoped for, without killing my pocketbook! I love that I can either clamp the lamp on my worktable, or use the solid, weighted base on the desktop. The LED lights are really nice and bright, and don't shine in my eyes; I love it! I was surprised at how effective the magnifying glass is...it's small, of course, but works really well for me. I only needed to magnify what is in my hand as I work, and this makes such a big difference, and relieves my eye strain significantly. I am very happy with this little lamp, and would highly recommend it for crafters who need to get a well-lighted close up look at their work!

... with beading and other jewelry making and this is perfect. The lights allow me to see true colors ...
I was looking for something to help with beading and other jewelry making and this is perfect. The lights allow me to see true colors and the magnifying lens helps me string tiny seed beads. Awesome product - if you're waffling - try it, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Just get it. Best purchase I've made in a long time.
I rarely contribute reviews, but I have to rave about this product. It does exactly what it's supposed to do and it does it perfectly. I've added a couple pictures (with and without the light on) so you can see what a difference it makes. I expect that there are lots of similar products that do the same thing over a range of prices, but I am very pleased with my choice. Having a weighted base and a clamp (that you can swap) is great. The base is heavy enough that it doesn't shift around or threaten to tip over. The clamp is very strong and includes good rubber/silicone grips so it can clamp on securely. I clamped it to the edge of a thick table that had rounded edges and only half an inch of clearance as an experiment. I didn't expect it to be able to attach at all (with so little surface to clamp onto, but it did so and did so securely (at least as a temporary solution). Everything about this is well constructed and designed. I'm not surprised that the reviews are overwhelmingly all 5 stars. My recommendation is to just buy this if you occasionally (or regularly) do any kind of hobby or work that requires looking at tiny details. I wish I had bought something like this 10 years ago, and I'm glad this product is available now. One final comment: this is great for my neck and back. You can literally sit up and see much more than you could (without a magnifier) hunched over with your face inches from your work.

Great magnifying light for artists
My eyes aren't what they used to be, and as a cartoonist who needs to see details, you can't exactly zoom-in on paper like you do on a computer monitor when drawing digitally. This lamp is perfect. It has a heavy weight base or an interchangeable table- clamp depending on your preference. The bright LED light is just the right amount of brightness without being too harsh. (It is on or off. A dimming option would have been a nice option. Just an idea for the lamp maker.) The lamp has a nice long flexible 13 inch neck post that stays stable and where you need it. The glass magnifying lens is held into place with a retaining ring that screws in fairly easily. I was a little worried the lamp was broken upon initial opening because my lens and the ring were loose in the packaging, but thankfully no scratches. I've already used this lamp for a few projects and can tell I'm going to get a lot of work out of this. It did take a little bit to get oriented to drawing while looking thru a lens and once I found the right distance between the table surface and my eye position (like when you look through binoculars) the clarity snapped in. Worth the price. Highly recommended.
