Solid Performer
I use this as an audio recorder when interviewing family members to be used in producing videos to record our family history. The audio pickup is clear and accurate.

best of the tascam options under $300
GREAT sound quality, easy usb uploads, microphones are awesome, ergonomic, portable, etc.... I couldn't be happier... This was my choice instead of the equivalent Zoom. I am really enjoying this Tascam 40x for home recording of instruments and voice. But some things may need an upgrade in future models... The led screen and button controls are ok but stone-age technology sort-of... With some buttons, plus a smart phone app to control it, this would be the ultimate recorder... I could see speaking into the mic to give commands like "rename file, overdub recording, pause"... etc. Also the mic inputs do require a fethead or cloud lifter in your mic cable, for silence...

Perfect size and quality for field recordings!
Love this recorder. Using it for nature sounds with the internal mics. Using external mics for instruments. Sound quality is amazing and the user interface is intuitive and easy to learn. I mainly work with the backlight off but even with it on for extended periods the batteries last a long time.

Retuned after two uses
The sound was not bad, but after using it two times, it would not turn on anymore. I was very disappointed since I’ve heard really good things, might have just been a faulty unit but so far not a good experience for me

Great for multitrack overdub recordings.
I use this like an old school overdub four truck. It took a little while to get the hang of it, but I did - and I really like this recorder a lot.
