I am not sure if I should call this game ā€œamazingā€ or ā€œa great gameā€ because overall this game is more than those two meanings. In other words, the way they made this game was to make it for everyones liking while in addition to making each person feel free of exploring there own ideas towards making anything and creating the impossible while also having fun with anyone at anytime. In addition, while the game lets you create your own courses in game which can be super fun for some people there is also the other half that say itā€™s not there cup of tea which if you feel that thatā€™s you donā€™t you worry yet your still not left out of the game yet because there is a mode called ā€œstory modeā€ which lets you play courses that have been made by Nintendo and are at times tricky in a way that can be fun and challenging for you at times. Also, lets say you also donā€™t like ā€œstory modeā€ in game right, well again you are still not left out of the game yet if you were wondering because not only did they include those two features that the games has but also you have the ability to play online with other people but itā€™s important that you have a subscription of Nintendo Switch online because without that you cannot play with other people and that can feel a bummer without having no one to play with online. But if you have Nintendo Switch Online or you bought the subscription you can enjoy your time playing millions of courses made by other people and competing against other people you would want to beat and remember since we donā€™t have the miiverse functionality here in the Nintendo Switch you still get to use or make you own mii character while using it as a profile of you in game for others to see your records in game etc... . As I said this game is beyond the two meanings I mention above and itā€™s more than a game itā€™s where possibilities and dreams happen all the time you start creating and playing while also having fun all the time and lastly creating what you thought to be impossible. So now, what will be your dream course in this game? Go find out now by buying the game because Super Mario Maker 2 is where you build your courses and always have fun. I hope you have fun after buying the game because trust me itā€™s more than having fun reading this lol.

If yes, you're gonna love this one. It's a "good enough" improvement to warrant purchasing. If no, if you give it a chance; you're probably going to at the very least like this one.

Kids havenā€™t stopped playing! Great game- admittedly I skipped the original of this title, but I saw speed run stuff on YouTube. I wasnā€™t sure how Iā€™d like it- but I have to admit, the kids love it, and itā€™s a great reinforcement to coding for young ones. My 7 y/o makes a stage or a section, tries it, sees the errors or pitfalls, and modifies until it works. So itā€™s really more brain building than I ever would have expected. Pleasantly surprised. And Iā€™m having a blast playing on the online community shared games, so I can try other peopleā€™s crazy stages.

I'll pour Pasta Fazool all over my face if you don't end up enjoying this game. It's worth it for the 100 pre-made levels alone! My wife is getting tired of hearing trite Italian phrases out of my mouth every several seconds while playing this game though, so use those sparingly is my advice. AYYYYY IM WALKIN' EEERE

Who gave this thing 1 star. It's awesome. Enough said. May have to buy a second copy so my boys can play at the same time.

I have never bought the first super mario maker game so i dont really know if its that big of an upgrade. What i can say is this game is so much fun. The story mode levels are actual levels the design team has made and they are pretty creative :) Some are easy and some you have to figure out what to do if you arent up to date with the mario games but eventually u figure it out. Making your own levels is what i love the most about this game. I was pretty disappointed when some items are unavailable depending on the mario (oldschool or recent) that you pick and that knocked off a star. However, i still rated it 5 stars because of the creativity you can unleash within yourself. I always wanted to be a game designer for Nintendo, but as i got older and went into college, my love of animals became even greater and my career went towards the veterinary field. The creating part of the game makes me feel the very thing i was pursuing to be in the first place :) Lastly, the online part of this game. You DO need an online subscription to access all online parts. That includes creating your account with your mii, playing other people's levels, and even creating your own levels and uploading them. Even if you beat the 100+ levels that the story mode has, you can continue to pick this game up and have fun playing other people's levels. In conclusion, if you love mario games and want to get the feel of creating them, you will definitely love this game. It is worth the $60 since theres online levels to try out after you beat the game. It won't just collect dust after you beat story mode and thats a 2 thumbs up in my opinion :)

Mario Maker 1 on Wii U was Nintendoā€™s answer towards players who wanted to create their own unique takes on Mario levels without venturing into the realm of modding or home brews. Mario Maker 1 created a deep, but simplistic toolset that any age of gamer could find accessible, but Mario Maker 2 takes everything we enjoyed back on Wii U, and it makes it bigger, deeper and even more fun. See, I always felt like Mario Maker 1 was a mixed bag: you might end up with excellent user-created levels, or you might find yourself putting the controller down while a moving platform takes you right to the flagpole. Creativity can be both interesting and dull at the exact same time. Luckily, Mario Maker 2 consists of actual single player content as well as Course World level filters so you have more ways to tailor the experience to your liking. The story mode is fairly good too, with the premise being that the ā€˜undo dogā€™ resets the structure of Peachā€™s castle, leaving you with ā€˜jobā€™s (i.e. Levels) to complete in order to earn coins which can be used to rebuild the structure from scratch. This mode alone could have been a game in its own right, and it functions well beyond your everyday tutorial. Playing is only half the experience though, and Iā€™m sure youā€™re curious how the Switch version handles level creation. My main question going into Mario Maker 2 wasā€¦how will the level creation work if my Switch is docked? On Wii U, you created levels using the stylus on the gamepad, with only dimmed overlays on the TV. Only after switching over to ā€˜Playā€™ your creation, were you able to finally look up and see your level in action on the big screen. On Switch, itā€™s physically impossible to be able to create your level on the tablet, then simply look up at the TV after itā€™s done; you naturally have to walk up to your dock and mount the console. Nintendo actually made this process fairly simple: when docked, you can use any controller to your liking, and utilize the analog sticks, which act as pointers on the screen(there is no motion control option currently). While in handheld, you utilize touch input, such as what we did on the Wii U gamepad. The controller inputs actually feel pretty good, and it is as accurate as youā€™d need it to be! The level creation tools are insanely deep, with literally hundreds of combinations that can be formulated to create challenges, puzzles and artistic beauty into a multitude of Mario backdrops. New to Mario Maker 2 is the inclusion of different backgrounds and customization options for Mario Bros, Mario Bros 3, New Mario Bros U, Super Mario World, as well as the newly introduced 2D gameplay from Super Mario 3D World! Course World has also has been given some much needed options, such as to properly filter out levels you actually WANT to play, such as by selecting ONLY Mario 3D world levels or puzzle oriented ones for when you are in the mood to solve something. Coop play is also a thing now, even if it ends up becoming a bit of a mess while working with someone else to play or create a level. The whole package is absolutely fantastic, and a must-play for anyone looking to create, play and experience the best Mario creator toolset Nintendo has ever released. Even if you arenā€™t into making levels yourself, there is enough content here to keep you entertained well between other major Switch games, and the replay-ability is nearly infinite, as active community engagement will keep the game fresh for years to come.

Let me start this by saying I'm not a creative person, and I do not design levels. My review will be from a playing only point of view, not a making one. Super Mario Maker 2 is a great Mario experience, in which there is a full-fledged story mode, as well as endless user-generated content. The story mode alone has as much gameplay as a standalone 2D Mario game, and is a fun experience. As for the user-generated content, as long as you have an online membership ($20 USD a year) and an internet connection, there is a nearly unlimited selection of levels to play through. This game is truly limitless. If you do not have an online membership, you are limited to just story mode levels (and any you create) and has the amount of content expected of a $60 Mario game. If you do have an online membership, the game has well over $80 ($60 game + $20 online fee) worth of Mario content as long as you can connect to the internet. You can play any level form the online selection, posted by other players, and can even download levels for offline playback. For the price, I do not see a need for any other 2D Mario game to exist at the moment, as this will provide infinitely more content across the five game styles provided at launch. TLDR: Get it, it's fun and worth the money

I can't stop playing this game. Seriously, send help. This game is a blast for people who want to make levels and those who just want to play. I am not an artist, designer, or architect of any kind, but making levels is very easy for all levels of talent. I only made a few, however, and mostly enjoy playing other people's work. The "Endless Level" modes are also an amazing addition that makes it feel like you have unlimited new Mario games to play. My only warning is prepare to be patient and enjoy the challenge... there are plenty of people out to troll you with quirky and downright terrible worlds. Don't worry though, each creator has to be able to beat the level to post it.

I'm much more of a Mario fan than Zelda, though The Switch has flipped this for me for the first 2 years since I preferred BotW over Odyssey (though Odyssey is still a phenomenal game.) I can't say that anymore now that I've been living and breathing SMM2 for the last 10 days and it doesn't look like there's an end in sight. I did skip a couple of Nintendo consoles. GameCube and WiiU, never owned any of their handhelds, and a few mainline Mario games I still haven't played some like Galaxy, Sunshine, U, or 3D World. I can't imagine those being any better than this. The hundred levels in story mode are just great and with the price alone. These are some of the best Mario levels every made by Nintendo and really help you understand the newer and older mechanics in the game for newcomers and people needing a refresher. But the endless levels constantly being produced by the community are orders of magnitude better and it would be impossible to play every half of them. Level creation is also really great and I never thought I would be making levels I found it to be as fun explain some of the great levels other people have made. There's some issues with multiplayer and lag, which is unfortunate because I'm paying Nintendo for service. I haven't had any real problems with Smash Brothers online but a lot of the time Mario Maker multiplayer is completely unplayable. Nintendo needs to fix this. Though when it does work it's so fun. The ability play with friends is non-existent online though Nintendo said they will add this soon. We'll see. I still prefer 2D Mario games over the 3D ones even though 3D ones are great. This is a must have for every Switch owner.
