My father in law has a Craftsman edger that's probably 20 years old and runs like a champ. I don't like this one *quite* as much as his, but it's powerful, functional, and gets the job done. What I liked: - The most important things are there - power and maneuverability. This cuts a clean line and is easy to haul around., - With settings up to almost 2 inches deep, I can use this to cut out sod squares when removing grass, or to dig a trench for a wireless fence. (But if you do that, obviously don't edge there next year!). - A four cycle engine means that while the unit needs both oil and gas, you don't have to mix them, which is really nice. What could be better: - Unfortunately, the cutting depth can only be changed by shutting down the unit and adjusting it on the main body. Hopefully, fewer moving parts means this is sturdier, but it would be convenient to be able to switch depth on the fly.

I can't recommend the whole line of Craftsman lawn tools but this little beast does an excellent job. In the past, I've always used my weedeater for edging. This is so much better for accuracy and ease of use. It came mostly assembled. I only had to mount the two-stage handles. Follow the instructions though. You want to make sure the cables end up in the right place and that the wingnuts are on the right side. Once assembled, all I had to do was add oil (comes with a bottle of the correct amount) and gas for a 4-stroke engine. I have lots of curb and driveway to contend with- this little guy maneuvers so easily it makes this job a snap. Occasionally, I will hit a rock but I have never bent the blade or damaged this little machine. Great for curved areas too. It's far harder to be as accurate with a weedeater. It's not as loud as I expected. I think that's because the engine is a 4stroke and small. Definitely recommend!

Great addition to my yard equipment.

Craftsman 29cc motor runs extremely well. It ships with oil, so all you have to add is some gas and you're ready to start. No mixed gas is required. Couple primes and it starts on the first or second pull. Adjustable depth of blade is achieved via variable front wheel height. It would have been nice to be able to adjust debth from the handles but that feature typically is reserved for pricier models. Had no trouble cutting into the tough clay at home, only bogged down when flexed too hard into curb. Belt drive let the pulley slip rather than kill the motor. Got the job done with the performance of a more expensive unit.

Years ago, the hubster had a Craftsman edger. It was a sad day when it quit working. When looking for another one like what he had, he could not find one, so he had been using an edger attachment on his weed eater. Today is a beautiful day. He opened the box and saw what was in it. He loved his old gas powered push edger and he has wanted another since the first one. He is a happy man now.

My partner is getting a head start on yard work this year, thanks to this gas powered edger by Craftsman. When I call it a "heavy duty beauty" in the title of this review, I don't mean it weighs a lot. I am referring to the fact that it is so well made and sturdy. It is also super easy to assemble. Just attach the two handles, put in the oil (which comes with it), add gas, done! (All instructions are included, and easy to understand.) Thanks to the three wheel design, it maneuvers easily around the edges of the driveway, the shrub beds, and sidewalk. Best of all, there is nothing heavy to carry (as was the case with his old string-trimmer) while you're neatening up your yard or garden. Overall, he's in love with this heavy-duty beauty, and has plans to use it in more areas of the yard (to edge around the pool and vegetable garden) once the weather turns completely to yard-work season.

It works great. Hard to go on straight line but I guess it takes time.

This is my second time using an edger, but my first time owning one. I assembled it the day it came, which only took about 20 minutes, including filling the oil (which comes with it) and the 4 cycle fuel (I use TruFuel, which I buy at Home Depot - A great product for 2 and 4 cycle). I was so excited to get to use it, but had to wait so long because it kept raining. Yesterday was finally nice out, so I mowed the lawn and then got to work edging. The difference between this product and the old handheld landscaping edgers is night and day. I got both sides of my sidewalk, my side of my driveway (the other side is my neighbor's lawn) and my walkway to my front door all done in a matter of about 5 minutes. The cut was clean and took very little effort, other than one part of my lawn where the elevation changes and I had to stop and start a few times by tilting it back. This thing is light enough that it's quite maneuverable and cutting in a curve on my walkway was very easy. As I mentioned before the ability to very easily tilt it back really comes in handy for restarting on potentially thick/difficult areas. I am very happy to have this edger now and look forward to using it for years to come. If something should change, I will update this review. Attached is a picture of my first cut (I'll get better) that was so immediately satisfying:

I have been using a handheld stick edger for years. In fact, this is my first experience with a push edger. I assumed that I would be disappointed, but quite the contrary was true. Although the portion of lawn that runs against our curbed street was a little more tricky with this edger that with my stick, the edge of the sidewalk and driveway have never looked better. Additionally, I was blown away by how much easier and more comfortable to operate this unit is that a handheld when edging those areas that run along smooth hard surfaces such as our sideway and driveway. The edger arrives in three pieces that are very easy to assemble. Basically, one just needs to attach the handle bars, fill the unit with the included oil, fill the unit with regular gasoline, and it’s ready to go! After priming the bulb, I believe I only had to pull the starter cord twice to fire it up that first time. I do appreciate that, unlike my stick edger, this edger is not mixed fuel. Oil stays with the oil, gas stays with the gas. I find that to be more convenient. I would recommend this edger to those that have edging requirements that are on the same level as an adjacent hard surface. Like I said, curbs and other raised surfaces require a little more finagling with this unit. I would also recommend this unit for those that have difficulty managing the weight and/or occasional kick of a handheld edger. Under the right set of circumstances, and according to user demands/preferences, this edger is pretty great.
