Easier than Others

UPDATE: This system deserves this update as I am so pleased with how it is lower maintenace than others. The water needs to be drained and replaced only when you replace the plants and not every week like every other hydroponic system. According to the Miracle-Gro chat specialist: "Dalton: Hydroponic systems traditionally use water, nutrients, and supplements to help the plants grow. The nutrients and supplements are used as a way to compensate for not having soil (since the nutrients and supplements needed are found in the soil). So a hydroponic system uses techniques like eb and flow (where the water rises to the roots and lowers periodically) to keep the plants alive. Dalton: Our water-based system combines a similar technique of hydroponics (where the water shoots out onto the roots or in this case soil) with the traditional soil-based growing. This allows you to forego the nutrients, pH balancing, and other such things required of hydroponics Me: so nutrients are not required? Dalton: We provide with the unit a few months of nutrition packets that help with growing and is recommended for use with the system. However, if you do not use them, your plants shouldn't die Dalton: They will just grow better with the packets" Original Review This growing system arrives well packaged to be protected in transit. It is easy and quick to assemble. There is an app to download that allows you to set the time the lights come on daily and then they stay on for 14 hours and off for 10 hours. The app will also let you know when to add water, nutrients, etc. It was easy to pair with my phone and the phone does not need to be nearby or even on for this system to remember to turn on and off the lights. This feels like a quality piece of furniture to have next to the rest of our living room furniture. It says not to set more than 25 pounds on the tabletop I think but yet there is an option to stack another one of these on top which probably weighs more than 25 pounds. Two gallons of water are used so it becomes heavy and difficult to move once it is set up. Their online customer service says the baskets are reusable which makes this very cost effective. There is the pleasure of having more green plants indoors and that these plants also serve the function of being edible, delicious, and nutritious. Having the indoor system allows lettuce to be grown all year long when it could not be grown here in the desert in the summer because it is a winter crop. The light is nice and not distracting or bothersome. The water runs loud and sounds like a very loud water feature. We did not enjoy listening to it and it actually was not relaxing to us but more like fingernails on a chalk board. We have placed it in a guest room with the door closed so we don't hear it. It does not splash any water so it shouldn't damage our carpets. I give Miracle-Gro 5 stars plus for their website and customer service which is available via phone or online chat. I used the online chat service for many questions and found them helpful, pleasant, and polite. The nutrition packets by Miracle Gro are NOT organic and they will not tell you what it is because it is proprietary. So I plan on using organic hydroponic nutrition although I have not researched it and selected which one yet. Miracle Gro will give you four plants to start by going to twelvefirstgrow and entering your Serial Number which is found on a sticker on the bottom of the reservoir tank so get that S/N before filling it with water! The chat person says everyone gets 2 basil, 1 mint, and 1 cilantro although another reviewer said they received something else. The chat person says that they will start a subscription service soon some day but you will not be able to select which plants you get. We are pleased with the quality and value of this system for the price.

Easy, Beautiful and Quality Product from Miracle-Gro

This product lives up to the hype! We have been looking for an indoor grower not only because we love to have fresh greens year round, but our space in our garden is limited. We looked high and low and the Twelve felt like the perfect fit. We have been incredibly happy with Miracle-Gro products and from what we have experienced so far the Twelve confirms the quality and ease it advertises. So the box arrives.. .it's HUGE! The kids were begging to crack it open when I got home from work. Honestly was getting ready for a long night of set-up, but to my surprise it was hands down the easiest thing I have ever set-up. Think Apple... I got the Twelve up and running in no less then 10 min. The instructions are simple and easy to understand. The app you download guided me through the entire process. We started with seeds, but you can start with a seedling - (fits Bonnie Plants sizes perfectly). In 5 days we already have little tiny plants! This product can all be set from the app. Also reminds you to add water / food etc. It also looks really nice - you can put in anywhere in your house. I just bought two more - one I am going to stack at home the other gifting to my parents who live up in the mtns - they are going to love the fresh lettuce / herbs during the winder months! Thank you Miracle-Gro - great product!!! Highly recommend.

Great for Growing Veggies

I have finally found a place to set this up and I'm growing lettuce and baby tomatoes. So far, this is working well. I'll be able to have fresh salad makings all year round without going to the store. These indoor growing systems are wonderful! Will never be without one again.

So easy to grow indoors

We've had our Miracle-Gro Twelve for just over a week and love the experience so far. We've never grown anything indoors and this device makes it so simple. The assembly and set up took less than 15 minutes...we could have followed the printed instructions but downloaded the app and it walked us through the step-by-step assembly - very easy. We also received our first four plants free...there was a URL on the outside of the box that included the directions on how to order the free plants. We received two basil plants, one cilantro and one mint. The cool feature about this device is you are able to use young plants in this that you can get right now from almost any garden center so that you can harvest much sooner. My daughters loved transplanting the Bonnie Plants we received in the mall from their pots into the special cups & liners that came with this device. In just a few more days we'll be ready to begin harvesting and cooking with these herbs! The app includes a calendar to help us know when to harvest. I do have a dog and she was curious at first when we set it up but has completely left it alone since set up. The device is very quiet...before we put the plants in you could hear the water but now with the plants in place it is barely noticeable. We're excited to be growing inside and can't wait to try growing lettuce from seed next!

Easy set up

As I was setting this up, my toddler was dumping the contents of his truck into my work area occasionally. When I saw tubing with electrical wires sticking out, I thought I would have to postpone the set up until his nap time. However, I just followed the super easy instructions and was able to snap the circuits together and quickly move on until it was complete. It didn't take very long at all. I still needed to add the water and plants but putting it together was simple. All tools needed are provided. I love that this doubles as a side table and has a bit of light. It's great to have fresh herbs year round and you get four plants free with this system. Make sure you have the serial number when you sign up online or over the phone. Looks great and saves space if you enjoy plants because it doubles as a side table.

Grow Leafy Greens, Herbs, and Flowers Indoors

I have used Aerogarden, which is a good starter kit. The problem with that product is that the app doesn't work and it's a small garden. If you want a bigger garden, then this Miracle-Gro system is great. Nutrition packets are optional. They help the plants grow faster. If you don't have an outdoor garden or you want fresh plants when it's snowing outside, then get this. They have the best video ever showing you clearly how to set up the Miracle-Gro system. It's right here on Amazon. Just click on the last image and watch the video to get a sense of how you to set it up. You must see the video! It's super helpful.

Extremely Happy

I have 2 of these systems. The best investment ever made. I have strawberries, lettuce and kale at my fingertips all year round. I no longer have to worry about the freshness or pesticides. It's great! I think the price is spot on. Think about how much money is spent in gas, the grocery store, the cost of eating healthy, etc. This system has saved me time and money. It's well worth the $300.00. Plus the app helps me stay on top of harvesting and the care my fresh fruit and veggies need. I love it!! I am a happy, satisfied customer. I plan to invest in another system in the near future.

Love this piece of furniture that holds larger plants!

We have two AeroGardens, and they are awesome for starting plants from seed. Once they get too big for the AeroGarden, we try to transplant them to outdoor or indoor pots. We have decent success, but wish we could keep them in protected, controlled conditions for a longer time. This does just the trick!!! This holds MUCH larger plants. You can start from seed, or use the different inserts to mature seedlings or small plants. It makes a nice end table, which makes this perfect for my small space. The watering system can be very LOUD if you don't have the ports filled. If you find that you are using less than all of them, put the empty inserts into the empty ports. Leaving them empty will give you that "running water" sound...which, if you're me, isn't the greatest thing. If you put the empties into the ports, the sound is dampened nearly completely. I am highly considering buying a second one (or third, too) to use as all of my end tables in my living room. I love how useful they are!!!

Well-built and Good-looking in the Living Room

This Miracle-Gro Twelve Indoor Growing System is for serious indoor hydroponic planting lovers. The system is well-built and good-looking in the public area of the house. Installation is quite easy even though not quick because it involves many steps. Setup instruction is very clear and you can download the app first and it will show you the steps to take from setting up planting seeds. The app is quite well developed, making total amateur feel like a professional. One thing that I am confused about is the name "Twelve" which made me think there are twelve planting slots, but there are actually only four. Having used several smaller hydroponic systems, this one does provide a lot of room to grow. I recommend it!

Unique way to add a garden to your home

I’ve used indoor gardens before but there is always the question of where to put it. This setup from Miracle Grow doubles as an indoor garden and furniture, allowing you to use the space above the garden rather than taking up counter or shelf space like other indoor gardens. It also has the added bonus of being bigger and can accommodate pots from the nursery, allowing for bigger plants that aren’t cramped or growing into the lights.
