Extensive Graphic Editing
I got this to start working on illustrating and graphic editing. I have previously used Corel Painter and had a lot of success with that. I was a beginner when I started using that and it helped me come a long way since then, so I figured I'd give this other software by Corel the same try. I typically work with a windows based platform but have recently switched over to the MAC setup based on a suggestion from a friend. They send you a key card that you'll use to download the software to your computer. There will definitely be a learning curve to using this software if you've never used it before. Digital illustration and graphic editing is an extremely complicated process that takes a lot patience and understanding. I have had to use a variety of online sources to help me understand the process and utilize it more effectively. I think the average person may want to pass on this software unless you're already very experienced or you really want to put the time in to learn it. Overall it's an extensive graphic software suite that will really help you to excel and push you to your creative limits.

Mid-Weight Graphics Package
Corel Graphics suite aims to be a complete image editing and creating platform for Mac users. It is comprised of Corel Draw (Vector graphics) and Corel-PhotoPaint (Bitmapped graphics and Photos). In the box is a serial number for the software, and a URL to download the software. This makes sense, despite the download being large. It ensures that a new user has the most current version of the software, and gets around the problem that many modern computers do not come with optical drives. Once the software is installed, the user is prompted to create a Corel account to run the software. Corel PhotoPaint eases the new user into the software through a tool tips panel on the right hand side of the screen, which can be closed. For more experienced users of other photo editing applications, the interface is somewhat familiar - the differences are easy to pick up. It has all the necessary tools such as type, paint brush and selection tools including a unique Planar mask. All the usual filter tools are available (blur, noise, “art” filters) as are color tools such as curves. I found that the software was able to load a Photoshop file with layers intact. “Lenses” let you add filter effects as a layer. The application has painterly tools as well, such as the brush tool with the ability to paint using operators such as “subtract”, “hard light” and “multiply”. “Image Sprayer” sprays a stream of images such as butterflies. The rectangle tool has useful options such as rounded edges and logic operators such as multiply, difference and many more. Exports include the standard image file formats (TIFF, PNG, JPEG) as well as PSD. “Export to web” gives a split screen view where you can see what different export settings will do to an image - very handy for optimizing load times, or where there are constraints imposed on image size. Corel Draw is for drawing vector graphics with familiar tools such as ellipse, rectangle and free hand tools. There is an interesting “Artistic Media” tool that draws vectorized strokes using tools such as a spray can, brush and pen. Bezier and B-Spline tools are there as would be expected. As with Photo-Paint, there is a panel with tool tips for novice users. It is very useful, even for those who have used other vector drawing applications. Layers with objects can be converted to bitmap for such things as applying filters. There is even a QR Code tool - handy. There are several export options include Adobe Illustrator, PDF, SVG and bitmapped formats such as PNG and JPEG. I experienced minor performance issues when using Corel Draw. With several layers on a poster-sized art board, object drags sometimes had a small delay. This is using a 2017 27” iMac with 24 GB of ram. If you are a long-time Adobe user, expect a period of transition, as things are in different places and some features are not there or are called different things. On the upside, the user interface for both packages is coherent, so with some use it’s easy to anticipate where things are. I was able to find my way around, and where I was stumped, Corel’s documentation was indeed helpful. For those who have little experience with graphics packages, there is a learning curve (keep the tools tips on) because tools have several options embedded in them. While this can be daunting, it is a good thing for flexibility. The big advantage this software offers is that it is something that you buy once and own. The user interface works well enough and both packages have a comprehensive feature set that covers the core tools that graphic artists use.

Extremely flexible set of tools
The range and variety of software in this package can really do about anything you might want in terms of graphics creation. My wife who is a retired computer graphics designer found the software very accessible and versatile.

A versatile program for multiple applications
I am using CorelDraw on a MacBook Pro and am very pleased with it. I use it for multiple graphics applications for my blog. What I like most is that with one product I get a lot of versatility. I can use it for photographs, art, layout and more. The truth is it probably isn't as powerful in each area as its competitors, but overall you just get more for the money. I don't need the horsepower of those other programs and would just be wasting my money when CorelDraw delivers all I need and then some. I recommend it for anyone needing an all around useful machete rather than a bejeweled broad sword. Recommended.

There is a learning curve but it is exciting and fun.
I really like that CorelDRAW is fully supported on the Mac platform. I have tried a few other editing suites in the past and not gotten very far with them. I really like the way that Corel supports and packages their software. I find it less complicated and easier to learn. I am still playing around with some of the included professional templates and am learning by customizing them to me needs. There are so many programs and capabilities here. I have only just scratched the surface. There are a ton of online learning videos and even classes you can pay and sign up for. I do like having a software program that I own rather than subscribe to.
