I had been in a state of cappuccino-mourning for a year with the death of my Krups. I couldn't justify $500 for a decent espresso machine. Seeing this one was a fluke, but the specs impressed me, so I put it on the wish list with a few more expensive machines. How could anything this low-priced be worthwhile? The answer: The genius of German engineering! No automation, no programmable buttons, no fancy FET switches with flimsy interfaces, just well engineered parts for the parts that matter. You turn the switch on/off manually when you hit the preferred volume/strength. Yep, you actually have to use your well trained eyes to decide when it's time. Same with a nicely powerful steamer for froth. What you get is a pull with the richest crema ever! I have used coffee types and grinds that you'd never expect to work, and the crema is still unbelievable. I swear, you could put sand in the basket and still come out with a rich cup of coffee! In short: A no nonsense machine with solid mechanical switches. Small but powerful (You can squeeze in an average sized coffee cup, but not a mug). Quick heat-up time and a relatively quiet pump for an espresso machine. Large water reservoir that is sleek in design, so much so, you need to remind yourself to watch the water level. Because it doesn't have a bunch of thermo-blocks, you can switch quickly between coffee and steam without a wait. The 20 bar pump makes perfect coffee every time. Works well, is simple, and leaves you in control. (That's right my friend, drink that cup of victory, you made it!) No water leaks so far. I need to go to Berlin and shake SOMEBODY'S hand on this one. I don't expect to be buying another machine for a long time, and I'll be sad when that day comes. :-( (Of course, it's well made so it might outlast me!!)

Love the espresso this machine makes! And it’s fast and quiet. Just make sure you leave the bottom tray in place and only remove the grill for larger cups. This machine makes steam because of its power and the tray is designed to catch it all. I’ve made about 20 cups of espresso and cappuccino so far and it works great.

Klarstein makes a great espresso machine. German technology makes it simple. Turn it on, wait for the green light, turn a dial and fill your cup. Cup full turn the dial to the off position. Have had Krupps, Hamilton Beach and Cuisinart machines over the years. Klarstein is the best. It is simple to operate and makes a great cup of espresso. For the money this machine can't be beat.

I’ve been making espresso for about 14 years and have owned a few of these units from various manufacturers. I’ve learned to look for the right specs to guarantee quality espresso and this one hits the mark. A quick run down...easy removal and replacement of the water reservoir, spill tray is easy to manage, makes great espresso with good crema, steamer works as expected (I never use it since I don’t add frothed milk but is there if I have guests that like that) and dial settings are easy to read and use (even for guests, sitter, etc). I expect this to last 3-4 years as I’m pretty disciplined about descaling regularly to maintain espresso quality and life of my machine. Overall, excellent price point for what you get and glad I gave this manufacturer a shot. Would def buy again if I had to make the decision again.

The Klarstein is an excellent espresso machine. As other reviewers have said, it's straight-forward without any dials or presets to mess with. Push the ON button, wait 45 seconds for the water to get to temperature, then turn the selector to the left and it makes espresso. Turn it right and you have foam. Done. German design, all steel (it's heavy) and 20 Bar (290 psi), so plenty of crema. I'm using french roast Sumatran ground Turkish (very fine) and it makes an extremely smooth, crema-laden cup of espresso (see pic). I did remove the 'rocket bell nozzle' foam attachment, which I end up doing on every machine that has one. Highly recommend.

After years of getting free samples from much pricier machines at a local specialty store, we finally took the plunge and purchased the Klarstein Passionata 15-bar espresso maker. We are very much enjoying it! We haven't had it long enough to attest to long-term wear and tear issues, but for now we enjoy being able to finally produce our own creamy espresso and even foam milk to go with it. It only took a short time to learn how to make the foaming head work and I'm now able to get consistently rich meringue-like results; the coffee is trickier because you have to find just the right balance to get that one ounce of water to take the full 25 seconds to go through the grounds. We've been happily sampling all our attempts and it's a little sad when we have to knock off because we know we've hit the caffeine limit for the day! If you're someone who just likes to press a button and have an espresso ready, this is definitely not the machine for you. But if you're someone who doesn't want to spend an arm and a leg on the machine and ready-made pods or a really expensive machine that does all the grinding, this is a good buy. We don't mind a bit of a learning curve and it's exciting when we get everything right. The instruction manual is a little strangely translated, which makes youtube videos generally a better choice for learning to use the machine. I've also found that the water head really needs to be wiped after use since old coffee grounds can stick around in there even if you run water to clean it. The milk foamer works great, but it can be a bit difficult finding a pitcher or tall cup that will fit over the nozzle end since it doesn't extend far from the machine or give you a lot of room to maneuver. I could probably fix this by getting an actual milk foaming pitcher but haven't sprung for one yet. I read every review available on this machine and many others before making the purchase and felt very prepared for the actual product we received, which I think is a big factor in being so happy with it. I learned, for instance, that it was unlikely to make a difference buying a 15 or 20 bar model as long as the machine would maintain 9 bars of pressure for the one ounce shot. Judging by the amount of crema and flavor, this does seem to hold true. So if you're an amateur coffee snob who likes doing foodie things like making their own espresso from scratch, have fun with this little machine!

Bought this for my wife for Christmas and I must say it is very impressive for its price point. Pulls a great shot every time as long as I’m consistent in my Barista skills and prep which is just as important. YouTube has some great educational videos on how to learn to do it correctly, along with preparing the frothed milk. Attention to detail and fresh quality beans is also key to making a good consistent shot of espresso. Consider purchasing the additional tools in order to do this accurately. Weighted 51mm tamper, digital scale for weighing the coffee grounds in your porta filter, a decent quality coffee grinder ( the oxo burr grinder is nice at around 100 bucks), digital timer for shot dispense time, shot glasses with measurement marks, and a stainless frothing pitcher for the milk. Very happy with my purchase so far!

I love red appliances and this color matches all my others perfectly. It was easy to assemble and use. I can say I have never had a cup of espresso quite as satisfying as the many I have had the chance to make with this. It is also compact and leaves plenty of counter space and can be stored under the cupboard. Definitely recommend!

This is my second coffee maker/machine from this German company. I previously purchased the vacuum siphon coffee maker~so much FUN! I bought this for Hubs so he can feel fancy and make his own espresso :) & I have to say, he is loving it. He got very excited about the 20 bar, (not quite sure what that means, myself), and the fact that you can make 6 cups at a time. It's a gorgeous addition to our coffee bar, too, without costing hundreds of dollars. Well worth it!

I have never owned an espresso machine, I cant believe I have waited so long to buy one. It works really well and the espresso taste amazing. I have used it every morning since I purchased it. My husband and I both really enjoy drinking coffee now. It is very easy to use. And my husband has even learned how to use it
