I'm still learining but WOW
It would take me YEARS to learn all the amazing features of this program. It is just THAT amazing. I am a beginner and I can't tell you easy it is to learn this. From the Welcome window to the helpful tips and tutorials I know this is going to be great to dig into.

Corel Painter 2020 is a Gem
'Painter' is a true painting program with a legacy that goes all the way back to the very first digital painting/special purpose computer. There are several important features in 'Painter' deriving from its origins. One is the capacity to record every step in the construction of an image. Another is access to the cascade of controls which permit mimicry of natural media. Both are reflected in other digital paint programs but have their roots in this now 30+ year old effort. In my opinion, there are only three digital painting programs worth your attention. These are Photoshop and its open source clone, the GIMP, and Painter.

incredibly impressive, brush collection is fantastic
This program is incredibly impressive. This is my first experience with Corl painter so I can't compare it to previous versions, but, this version is supposed to be much faster at processing large brush strokes. Though, even on my fairly powerful MacBook Pro there is some lag time when working with large canvasses and brushes. Before purchasing, I would highly recommend making sure your computer hardware meets the requirements to run the program and its course, try out the 30-day trial from corel.com As a graphic designer, I'm a long time photoshop user but I see why serious digital painters would prefer this program. The brush collection and performance is fantastic and I'm in love with the painter's color mixer panel. They have really made the process of digital painting feel natural and organic.

Paint by numbers
I have used Photoshop for years and years. For photo manipulation and graphics work, Photoshop and Illustrator are the go to standards. Unfortunately they have switched to a super expensive subscription model that I just can't afford. (I do some freelance illustration work, but mostly just do things for myself and my kids). Painter doesn't fully replace Photoshop, but it is awesome in its own right. It comes with both a disk and download instructions (in case your computer doesn't have an optical drive). I downloaded it to my laptop with no issues. It works well with a touch screen or a mouse. I enjoy being able to draw directly on my screen. The controls and commands are intuitive, and though I know I have barely scratched the surface, my daughter is happy with the unicorn I drew for her trying things out. It is fast with no lag, and it has a wide array of brushes and textures to use. It is very similar to painting with actual paint, far more so than Photoshop. For digital painting and illustration applications this is a really great piece of software, and once you own it, you own it, hooray! You can also save into a PSD format from Painter in case you want to export your design to Photoshop. There are lots of tutorial videos linked directly from the program that give a good overview of the different brushes and effects.

Powerful! Very Nice! Best if your computer meets the system requirements.

Extensive program, great for amateurs and pros
This is a very impressive application with creative and useful tools. I’m having a lot of fun with it, but it will take a while before I can do everything I dream of doing. The initial draw to me was the ability to transform photographs into paintings. I travel a lot and have thousands of beautiful photos that offer great canvasses for conversion. I can see wonderful artworks starting to emerge. This is both a fun and a very serious program, great for professionals but with much to offer us amateurs as well. I have used Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator and Corel Draw extensively in the past. I have not used previous versions, so I cannot speak to how it compares. All in all, I love it and see myself spending many hours both learning and using this application.

It's a really cool artistic program
I wouldn't call myself an expert, but I've used a few versions of Painter. There aren't that many new features from what I see, but there are tons of improvements. The property bar at the top seem is streamlined to give you stuff to go along with whatever tool you have selected. The color selector is improved and I really like the color suggestions below where you pick your color. Most of all, it seems a lot faster. I think that's because it now support GPU acceleration. I think if you have a compatible GPU, that that's worth the upgrade alone. I really like how this makes it easy to do some pretty artistic things. I'm someone who plays around with it more than anything, but I really like the program.
