This VHS to DVD converter works very well. With the disappearance of VCR players from the market, I'm converting all my video tapes to DVD, and this is the tool that will do just that. A great way to save all your accumulated movies and family videos for future use. Technology keeps moving, so this is a good way to keep up.

Very easy to use and works as fast as the playback does. I have a large collection of VHS Tapes I have been wanting to get converted since they are starting to wear out. This dongle does it without a problem. Just download the requested software, and start. It's that easy. 5 stars End of Review === Thank you for taking a minute out of your busy life to read my review. Easy to use! Simple to set up, software installed with no problems. I was up and running in just a few minutes. Hardest part was digging out and dusting off the old VHS player! The system comes with the hardware to connect your VHS player (or other device, camera etc.), and instructions on how to download the related software. The software has two programs, one to convert the VHS tapes (or LPs) to DVDs (or video/audio files), the other is a video editor that allows you to make special video projects out of your videos. You can do your project in one of two ways. Convert a VHS tape in a single session, creating a single large file, or you can convert clips creating several smaller files. In both cases you can edit each video before you finalize it. Things to note! You are converting the VHS tapes in real time! So if your clip is 30 minutes long, it will take you 30 to convert it to a working file. Then you can edit this working file. After editing it, you “export” (finalize) it to either a DVD, or as I did, to a computer video file. The “exporting” process takes a “long” time! Using a Windows computer, it took me about 2+ hours for a 30 minute video. Also note, that if your computer does anything in the background (updating etc.) while this “exporting” is going on, the sound tack can drop out for a short time. While the software has some special tools that are supposed to “fix or improve” your old videos, I didn’t find them very helpful. If the videos were poorly recorded, then no amount of “fixing” will help. Those dark Christmas morning and dance recitals videos were not help by any of these tools. My VHS tapes were pass their prime, dating from the late 1980 and early 1990s. Also note that video files are very large, a 30 minute VHS clip can convert into a 3 gigabyte file. All in all I like this system. While it took some time, it allowed me to convert my old VHS tapes to computer videos that I now keep on the cloud. I was able to edit my tapes and only keep the “best” parts. Getting rid of all those “special shots” that in hindsight were just long and boring!

I have taken it upon myself to convert all of my family's old home videos to digital. I have an OLD VCR set up near my computer, and I just needed the software and product to connect to my Laptop. This was perfect for my needs. This was very easy to install. It comes with CDS, but if you don't have a CDROM drive, they do have a website listed in the box to where you can download for an install. Very simple, and installed fairly quickly. Once ready to use, it was super easy. You will need to ensure you already have the Red, Yellow, White cord (called a 3RCA male to male; if you don't have one, they are incredibly cheap to buy online!) to connect your VCR to the product, and once you do so, you can simply hit play on the VCR, and the picture will show up in the program on your computer. You can fast forward or rewind to the desired part of the tape, and then hit record. I like this product especially because there is an option that it will stop recording once it hits the end of a tape. I have had similar products who will just simply record dead space until you hit stop. This is especially useful for me, as I can set it up to record a whole 6 or 8 hour tape, and then leave for work, and come back later, and it is all recorded. I can then edit/pare it down into sections on my own. I don't have to sit right by the laptop during the transfer. Top notch product for my needs!
