Took this on vacation and it kept a bunch of teenage boys mesmerized for days. They spent hours every day playing, and some sessions got quite rowdy. They would be up all night playing, and up early in the morning playing. It was refreshing watching them do something social and not attached to their cell phones. Sometimes the girls in our group joined them and play was intense! We had an 11-year old playing and he actually won a few rounds - believe me, they were not taking him lightly. We were staying in Orlando, Florida, a short car ride from Disney and Universal Studios. The kids almost preferred to stay in the resort playing this game than to spend the day on the rides. Game is very easy to learn, especially if you are familiar with other card games like Magic the Gathering and Pokemon. It has enough variance where no one is ever too powerful and even a bad draw can turn into a good game with a few lucky cards. A few of the cards, when played at the right time, may cause a near riot - especially one card that lets you switch your hand with someone else's cards. Do not play this game with very competitive sore-loser types or there will be blood. Try not to play with someone you are dating or you may find yourself single.

This is an amazing game in every way. First off, the box is crisp with a magnetic cover that feels elegant. The cards are well made and the art style is amazing. Very creative! I am a 20+ individual with friends around the same age. I purchased a handful of these as gifts and have played with most of the people I gave a copy (in groups of 3-4). This game is a blast. Unstable Unicorns is a robust game that forces players to make active choices and search for creative uses. Similar to other games in the genre as you play more, more options for card combos become more obvious. My first play through was pretty straight forward. It was a shortish race to see who could place down 7 unicorns with a few twists. But once familiar with the game, the game play blew up. My second game lasted 2 hours as we kept finding ways to slow each others progress and steal and destroy one another we had a hoot! And everything is so cute! This game, I think is enjoyable for a good range of ages with nothing I wouldn't consider safe for young players, however the level of game play available would certainly rely on the amount of thinking players are able/willing to put into it. Every card has several uses and when you start combining things crazy things can happen. I highly recommend for game nights and hangouts.

If you have played Exploding Kittens, this game (in my opinion) is better. There are many more gameplay options ..mainly due to the fact that in this game, each player has a “stable” deck (a group of cards you collect on the table) AND a “hand” deck. Each of theses decks has its own array of plays and restrictions... so there are more play options. It’s also important to know terms in this game. The most important three terms I found were “discard” (remove a card from your hand deck to the discard pile), “sacrifice” (remove a card from your own stable deck into the discard pile), and “destroy” (remove a card from another players stable deck and into the discard pile). If you have these down in the beginning your good! Another fact to know is that the point of this game is to have a certain amount of unicorns in your stable. The unicorns come in all forms, even a rhino and a horse with a chainsaw on its head. Some have magical powers to help you do special things when they enter into your stable, and others are just there to look cute. So you collect them to win. The problem is people can remove them. As far as the cards go - they are pretty cool, both in game play and in look. But some are a little “questionable” for young players or for religious reasons. There’s a “sadistic” card, and some cards with a knife and dripping blood in the form of a shadow in the background behind a horse with a little blood on it (he’s gonna be sacrificed). One unicorn has a chainsaw as a horn. There’s also a shark unicorn card with sharp teeth and blood on his mouth. He’s supposed to cause a unicorn to be sacrificed (removed from your own stable) or destroyed (removed from another players stable). You can also poison a unicorn with a poison card... stuff like that. These types of cards are few, but it may be something parents want to know before buying them as a gift for a younger kid.

I play games with friends when I can, and this is the game that started it all for me. I have always enjoyed games, but finding people/time to play with them has been challenging, but when my friends introduced me to this game I was hooked. My general attention span for games is usually less than an hour unless we are playing games that have lot of rounds with a winner of each round. Typically one game is right around that to determine a winner with larger groups, but when it takes longer I don't notice because it is sooooo engaging and interesting that I can even play more than one game of this. The cards are well thought out with different abilities and I like that cards have their abilities written on them. While this makes game-play longer, it makes it no less interesting and fun to see what all the cards do and to plan your strategy. Some of the cards have complex abilities though, so the age recommendation seems accurate for who will be able to truly grasp the concept of the game (it can be difficult for some adults) and also allow for a a game or two to get new players acclimated. There is a lot of thinking going on, and you can win in just a few moves at any moment, no matter how behind others you may seem which is really cool because you are never out of it. The box itself is a very nice presentation piece, and holds the cards well. This is a well thought out game that is lots of fun.

What. A. Fun. Game. The rules aren't complicated, thanks to the precise definitions of key words (discard, destroy, and sacrifice especially) and the reference cards to use during gameplay. The cute art and accessible gameplay make it perfect for gifts, which is precisely why I bought it. Something that stands out to me about this game is that there are no bad cards. None! Basic Unicorns aren't as powerful as Magical Unicorns, sure, but they still get to close to victory. All of the Upgrades are useful, and all of the Downgrades are powerful! I can't think of any other game where every card is an excellent card to play, but of course, strategic thinking helps you figure out which ones go better together. I can't think of a single bad thing about this game, and I usually can pick out something about any game I play! I'd recommend this for any player, age, friends or family, etc. unless they have a deep-seated hatred of unicorns. In that case, I'd get the Llamas Unleashed follow up game instead.

Kids and adults loved this game for Christmas. Instructions are now in box with 2nd edition and the game is super fun. Did take a couple games to figure out the rules but is was easy. Plus it’s just a game. If you miss a rule or two it doesn’t really affect anything. The game is a blast. Games are usually quick and fast passed. Get an expansion pack and a card case to go with and you will not be sorry.

We love this game so much! But, it does take a couple of games to really get the hang of it. The more you play the better you get at the strategy of building the ultimate unicorn army. There's a lot of reading involved with the game, so older people may not enjoy it as much...but that depends on the person. My 70+ parents did not like it. We are now looking at adding some expansion packs because we love this game so much. I play with my college-aged kids and I'll have to buy them each a set so they can have at school. Lots of fun! And the drawings and descriptions are very clever.

My son and I love playing games toy ther. Every Christmas I buy him a few. This was one of the ones I got. At first I wasn’t sure because of the name of it. I read a bunch of reviews and they all said how fun it was, so I decided to give it a try. I’m so glad I did! We have had so much fun playing it. It can seem a tiny bit confusing at first, but once you read through the rules and start playing it all comes together and it’s really easy and fun. I definitely reccomend giving this game a try! Don’t let the name keep you from giving it a try!

One of my favorite games. This game has tons of replayability and you can customize it with other expansion packs. Personally I like the game way better than exploding kittens for a smaller group of 4 or 5 people even tho you can play with more. However i must warn anyone who buys this even the box writes this also, THIS GAME WILL REPLACE YOUR FRIENDS WITH UNICORNS. this game creates fun drama in which people can really take this game too serious at times that can be bith good and bad. Lots of small reading when playing a turn but it makes the game mechanics different from other card games for sure. Fairly easy to learn as well.

I just love unicorns/games , so I had to get this one. I just got it ,so I haven’t been able to play. What I can say it’s going to take some time to completely comprehend the rules. I have to keep re-reading the rules. It’s so many terms with mini clauses to it. Still for someone like me who like to get tested this will be a great brain exercise for me. It’s a TOTALLY different methodology compared to classic games we all know. I think if your ready to test your brain muscles this is the game for you. I’ll be buying more unstable unicorn parts as time goes on!
