Fantastic backlit keyboard, good protection when closed, not bulky but a little heavy.

I've been using an iPad Mini 2 for 6.5 years, I recently purchased a 2018 iPad Pro 11" about a week ago to replace it. The Mini 2 remains a great iPad and I plan to continue to use it as my bedside clock-radio and as a book reader. The iPad Pro is going to be my portable work computer, plus I'll read comic books – ahem, graphics novels – on it because they're so much nicer on its larger screen. Since I'll be doing a lot of walking around with the iPad Pro I needed a case. Since I'm going to be doing a lot of typing with the iPad Pro I needed a keyboard. I had a Logitech keyboard case with the iPad Mini and was quite satisfied with it when I was using the iPad Mini as my portable work computer so I decided to buy another Logitech keycase for the iPad Pro. You can find my review of the Logitech case I used with the iPad Mini at the Amazon page for the "Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Folio for iPad Mini". I did consider waiting for the new Apple Magic Keyboard for the iPad Pro but comparing the price of $300 for that vs the price of $100 for the Logitech Slim Folio, well, sorry, but the Apple keycase isn't $200 better. If I ever need a trackpad (which I doubt) I have a spare Apple trackpad plus a bunch of Bluetooth mice all of which work nicely with iPadOS 13.4 or later. Even the currently-available Apple keycase is $150 when you can find it on sale, $180 normally. This Logitech Slim Folio Pro seemed to be very similar to the Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Folio I used with the iPad Mini so I was pretty sure it would get the job done for me. The two keycases are in fact very similar. The Slim Folio Pro is bigger (obviously) but also much more solidly built. The old Ultrathin did its job perfectly, protecting the iPad Mini from scratches and scuffs plus little spills and a few short drops – my iPad Mini still looks almost new! The Ultrathin is really showing its age, though, with one of the retention corners and the main folding spine cracked – the corner isn't a big deal (the power button under the cracked corner can still be operated without issue and it still holds firmly) but I had to reinforce the spine with tape. The other damage is reasonable expected wear-and-tear given how I've used (and sometimes accidentally abused) it. Comparing the corners the new Slim looks much sturdier and I don't expect to experience the same problem with corner cracking barring some major fall onto a hard surface (when you want the case to crack so that your iPad won't). I am concerned about the spine on the Slim, though, because while it is more solidly built than the Ultrathin that area is going to experience frequent bending and other stresses. We'll see... It wasn't difficult but it was modestly time-consuming to fully insert the iPad Pro into the Slim keycase. I can't see inserting and removing it frequently, or at all except once every month or three to clean it. Inserting and removing the iPad Mini from the Ultrathin keycase was a much faster process which encouraged me to pop it out so I could use it in "hand-held mode" now and then; I don't see doing that much or even at all with the iPad Pro and the Slim keycase, it's going to be stuck in "laptop mode" all the time, I think. The keyboard itself is fantastic! Unlike the Ultrathin designed for the smaller iPad Mini, very few compromises had to be made to squeeze all the keys into the available space. It feels like a good laptop keyboard, excellent "feel" and travel, I can type at full speed. Even though I'm a good touch-typist I love the backlighting! Note that there are really only 2 levels of backlighting, the third level is "off". The 2 levels of backlighting aren't very different from each other, the lower level should have been made dimmer. The function keys are really helpful, I use them a lot instead of swipes or hitting the power/top or volume/side buttons on the iPad Pro. This keyboard case is pretty great for turning the iPad Pro into a laptop replacement. Not that I would give up my desktop Mac but for on-the-go use the iPad Pro 11" in this Logitech Slim Folio keycase is perfect for my needs. The iPad + keycase isn't bulky but together they do feel heavy especially when being held in one hand for reading. It's not impossible to do but it does get uncomfortable, even when propped up a bit on my legs or belly while slouched on the couch. The iPad Mini, even with its Ultrathin case, is better for most handheld uses, especially reading – one of the reasons I'm keeping my old Mini even though it can't run the latest version of iOS and is otherwise getting a little long in the tooth. If Amazon lets me, I'll include a set of pictures of my 2018 iPad Pro 11" in this Logitech Slim Folio keycase matched with similar pictures of my 2013 iPad Mini 2 in its Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Folio. Please note the pictures that show damage and wear are of the old Ultrathin case which is 6.5 years old. I am showing them here for comparison, the new case is NEW so it's still in perfect condition and hopefully will remain that way for a long time. Please note that this Logitech Slim Folio Pro is for the 2018 iPad Pro 11". If you use it with the 2020 iPad Pro 11" it will fit but the larger camera array will be occluded, the cutout for the camera is sized for the smaller array on the 2018 model. In April, Logitech is releasing a revised version of the Slim Folio Pro with a larger camera array cutout which will fit the 2020 iPad Pro properly, be sure you get that newer version if you get a 2020 iPad Pro. The newer one will also fit the 2018 iPad Pro.

I Love this iPad keyboard

This is my second Logitech iPad keyboard. The first was for the iPad Air 2 and I liked it a lot. The battery on this one is much better than my old keyboard. This keyboard case does a better job of securing the iPad. I do miss the red tab on the older keyboard case that allowed you to pull the keyboard to you. I'm thinking this was not a popular feature, but I liked it. Over all, I love this keyboard case from Logitech.

Let’s your iPad turn into a very compact laptop and is a good protective case.

Great case. Feels like it could take a good drop and not damage your iPad at least. Keyboard is awesome. Can type with ease. Love the shortcuts too. The weight is about the same as the tablet. This has not been an issue for me though. It definitely makes for a very light laptop. I have the pencil and it secured tightly by the strap when closed. It’s very easy to go from typing to sketching. Just one quick flip of the iPad. Makes for an efficient experience when working. The reading position is not the best. I just use sketching position when using as a tablet, then keyboard position when I need to work like a laptop. I highly recommend it if you are in the market for having a real keyboard on your iPad.

BEST KEYBOARD FOR YOUR IPAD PRO

I have had folio cases before for various devices. The one thing I hate about it is the whole folding and it being flimsy thing. So I was on the fence when I bought this device over a traditional laptop. I didn’t want the folio life again. Well Apples folio keyboard case seems to do exactly that. Be flimsy. So I began looking at other options and I found this one and oh my. What are you doing stop reading this and go buy it while its on sale. In all seriousness this case does exactly what I want. The keyboard is great combined with IPad OS. When you put the keyboard down this thing hooks on with magnets and pretty much is solid. It isn’t flimsy and I can even get away with carrying it with one hand if need be. I can put the iPad in landscape in class and use the pencil no problem. The exact thing I was looking for. It was between this and the Brydge keyboard. I chose this one due to not being on board with the hinge system on the Brydge. I was afraid it would crack or bend my device. All in all this is a solid device that should solve your needs.

Near perfect keyboard case for iPad Pro 11

Incredible iPad Pro 11 (1st Gen) keyboard. Seamless keyboard with long battery life (USB C charging), illuminated keys, and comfty, responsive keys. The case actually works well as a case too, protecting the edges of the iPad. The case snap/fastener also has a pen holder, which is nice. We have the new Apple Magic Keyboard for 2nd gen IPad Pro (2020) also and while it is very pretty and svelte, I don’t find it to be as practical as this Logitech case. The Magic Keyboard is difficult to open, smudges like crazy, and provides no edge protection. Not to mention, Apple’s new case costs 3x vs this one. We actually returned our Apple Magic Keyboard and bought the latest version for our second iPad Pro 11. Saves nearly $200 and you get better protection! Only criticism is the side of the rubberized case got a small tear but I don’t know where it came from. I do use it a lot, running around a lot for work (pre quarantine) so it’s understandable.

Works Well... Protects my ipad

This is a follow up review from the original on July 24th below. I have to eat a little crow here. The Logitech Slim Folio Pro is working perfectly well now! The problem I had was caused by Apple making an IOS change. As soon as I got the update installed, the keyboard started working again. I have to give 5 stars to Amazon customer service too! I chatted with Carmela and she was very helpful in arranging for a return of the keyboard, even though it was past the return window. July 24th Review: I purchased this in April 2020. It has worked perfectly until this week. For no apparent reason all of the letter keys suddenly quit working. I have tried all of the troubleshooting suggestions I can find on the web, but nothing helps. The odd thing is that all of the top row keys still work ( home key, music controls, lock key, etc...). I have recharged it, tried a reset, and also reconnected via Bluetooth, but nothing fixes is. Very disappointed. It was a nice keyboard up until this point.

Almost perfect

This was a great keyboard. It turns your iPad Pro into a mini laptop. It protects your iPad and the backlit keys were great. The keys are perfectly placed and easy to type on. Didn’t really love that it only has two angles to use the keyboard in. Also didn’t love that I couldn’t lay my iPad flat without the keys being in the way. It’s also not super easy to get on and off the iPad. I did like it had a separate sleeve for the pencil and the magnetic clasp. If the new Apple magic keyboard hadn’t been released, I would still have this Logitech one.

Great case and keyboard for Ipad pro 11"

This is a great case and keyboard. It protects my 11" Ipad Pro perfectly with a templed glass screen cover without problems. The lighted keys are very usefull. The only observation I have is the price, I think is a little bit high only because is a new product.

Very comfortable

I've had this for 3 ½ months now and was very surprised the keyboard didn't work this morning! I spaced the part where it needs to be charged occasionally. It does not come with a charging cable, but works with the USB-C that the iPad charges with, eliminating the need for a different cable type. I find this a very comfortable cover, making the iPad feel very comfortable. I really like how the keyboard works, and am generally really pleased with the cover and keyboard. The grip on the cover is good enough I haven't dropped it very much(yet).

Nice keyboard for the tablet

I like this keyboard and it's functional for real-world typing. Sleep mode is useful and tablet frame is sturdy. The volume +/- button is hard to press - so I use the on screen ones to adjust the sound. The SIRI button is also hard to press - it feels as though I might break the tablet if I push any harder. Sometimes I want the keyboard out the way for pictures and tablet only use. When that happens I have to take it out of the case. Otherwise it's useful for typing long emails or documentation.
